She was not the soft, innocent type.

She was the kind of woman who could make a man lose the thread of his thoughts halfway through a sentence and never realize where it had gone.

Her legs were crossed with effortless elegance, one thigh resting over the other in a posture that looked casual at first glance, yet felt far too deliberate to be accidental. The slit of her dark wine-colored dress climbed high along her leg, exposing pale skin that seed almost luminous within the dim interior of the carriage. The fabric wrapped itself around her body as though it had been made for no purpose other than to emphasize the curve of her hips and the heavy fullness of her chest.

Her neckline dipped low, enough to tempt the eye without ever descending into crudeness. Smooth collarbones. Soft skin. The faint hollow between her breasts rising and falling with each calm breath. A thin golden chain rested there, gleaming softly before vanishing beneath the edge of her dress.

Her hair was long, black, and impossibly smooth, carrying the faintest blue sheen whenever light brushed across it. It spilled over her shoulders like ink over porcelain. A few strands frad her face, brushing against lips that were full and naturally deep in color.

When she noticed staring, those lips curved.

There was no shyness in that smile.

Only quiet amusent.

But it was her eyes that held the true danger.

Half-lidded and languid, her golden irises were touched by a darker ring near the pupil. They did not simply rest on . They studied. asured. Weighed. There was hunger in them, restrained but unmistakable, and it made the narrow carriage feel warr than it should have.

The fragrance surrounding her was not re perfu. Rose lingered at the surface, but beneath it was sothing softer, warr, and far more intimate. The scent of clean skin. Faint sweetness. The sort of subtle allure that never announced itself, yet quietly invaded the senses.

She tilted her head.

"You’re staring," she said softly.

Her voice matched the rest of her. Smooth, unhurried, and refined to the point of danger.

I didn’t look away.

"I’ve never seen soone like you in these parts."

Her smile deepened by a fraction.

"That makes two of us."

Her fingers moved idly along the rim of the crystal glass resting beside her. The gesture seed thoughtless, but it drew attention all the sa. Slender fingers. Graceful hands. Rings catching the light in faint, asured flashes.

As the carriage began moving again, the gentle sway made the fabric along her thigh shift slightly higher. She made no attempt to correct it.

Whether that was indifference or intention, I could not tell.

Her gaze traveled slowly down my body before returning to my face.

"You don’t look like a scholar," she murmured. "Nor a rchant."

"And you don’t look like soone who rely gathers information."

A quiet laugh slipped from her lips, low and soft.

"Perhaps I gather more than information."

There was sothing in her presence that stirred the cursed energy within . Not enough to alarm, but enough to awaken it, as though her very existence brushed lightly against instinct and invited it to open its eyes.

She seed entirely at ease in the enclosed space of the carriage. My aura did not unsettle her in the slightest. If anything, she appeared entertained by it.

When she uncrossed her legs and folded them the other way, the fabric tightened briefly around her hips before settling again. It was a small movent.

Yet the carriage suddenly felt smaller.

Warr.

Too intimate for two strangers.

"You asked about strange happenings," she said at last. "Demons appearing where they should not. n vanishing in the night. Whispers of dreams that feel far too real."

A faint gleam touched her eyes.

"Tell . Why does that interest you?"

I studied her more carefully then. Every small shift in expression. Every breath. Every calculated pause.

"Because I’m hunting sothing," I said.

Her brows lifted slightly.

"Oh?"

"A succubus."

For the first ti, sothing changed in her gaze.

It lasted only an instant, but I saw it.

Then it disappeared beneath that sa composed amusent.

"How bold," she said, almost under her breath.

The air between us seed to thicken.

"You don’t seem afraid," I observed.

She leaned back, one arm resting along the cushioned seat, her posture elegant and perfectly untroubled.

"Should I be?"

Her voice had lowered. Softer now. Closer. Intimate in a way that did not belong between strangers eting for the first ti.

The scent around her seed stronger.

Or perhaps I had simply begun paying attention.

Now that I was looking properly, I could sense the faint undercurrent of cursed energy around her, hidden beneath layers of poise, beauty, and restraint.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

Her gaze drifted briefly to my lips before rising to my eyes again.

"If you’re hunting a succubus," she said gently, "then you should be careful who you trust."

Outside, the steady rhythm of hooves striking stone continued as the carriage rolled forward.

Inside, the silence felt like the mont before sothing broke.

She shifted a little closer. Not enough to be obvious. Just enough for the warmth of her body to beco impossible to ignore.

"You’re strong," she said quietly. "I can feel it."

"And you?"

A small smile touched her mouth.

"I’m rely a lady offering information."

But her eyes said otherwise.

Not innocence.

Not safety.

Sothing far more dangerous.

As the carriage continued toward the mansion she had ntioned, one thought rose clearly in my mind.

If the succubus queen of the north truly existed, she would look exactly like this.
