At this mont, Ye Mingi didn’t dare to pretend to be asleep anymore. She tugged at the robe wrapped around herself and sat up on the bed.
Her doe-like eyes, filled with apprehension, looked anxiously at Yu Xiuzhun.
"What was that just now?" Ye Mingi’s lips quivered as she stamred out the question.
As soon as her words fell, Yu Xiuzhun reached out and pulled her up from the bed, yanking her into his embrace.
"..."
Ye Mingi didn’t expect him to act so suddenly, and her eyes widened in astonishnt.
"When did you wake up?" Yu Xiuzhun’s gaze locked onto her frightened eyes. Slowly, he loosened his grip on her. His slender fingers, with clearly defined joints, slid across her cheek as his voice remained indifferent.
"..."
Ye Mingi dropped her gaze and said nothing.
"You heard everything, didn’t you?" Yu Xiuzhun, seeing her like this, could more or less guess the truth.
Her courage was so minuscule that it was impossible for her to hide her reaction after hearing sothing like that.
Ye Mingi nodded stiffly, her expression vacant. "What you’re doing is against the law. Yu Xiuzhun, please stop..."
"Against the law?" Yu Xiuzhun sneered, as if he had just heard a joke. He interrupted her, grabbing her chin and forcing her to lift her head.
His long fingers pressed against her lips. "Do you think this is my first day breaking the law? Do you think this is the first ti I’ve dabbled in this? Since the day I beca self-aware, everyone around taught how to stain myself black just to survive. Do you really think I’d still be afraid?"
"..."
"It’s fine that you heard. I never intended to hide it from you anyway." Yu Xiuzhun swung his long legs up onto the bed, leaning casually against the headboard as he extended a hand toward Ye Mingi.
Seeing her rooted in place, he impatiently reached over and tugged her forward.
Ye Mingi stumbled straight into his arms, her hands bracing against his chest.
The warmth beneath her palms made her shiver slightly. She instinctively tried to pull away, but Yu Xiuzhun wouldn’t allow it.
"Did a dog eat your courage? Must you irritate like this." Yu Xiuzhun tilted her face upward and narrowed his wicked eyes at her.
"Don’t you despise ? Why aren’t you saying anything now? Go ahead and keep insulting , cursing to get what I deserve and die a horrible death. I ss with things like this, don’t I? Sooner or later, there’ll be consequences, isn’t that right..."
Yu Xiuzhun’s words abruptly stopped.
His pupils contracted as he stared at the woman who had pressed her hand to his thin lips.
Ye Mingi shook her head vigorously and lowered her gaze, awkwardly retracting her hand.
"You don’t have to talk about yourself like that. I don’t think that way. Everyone has their own life to live. I never thought I could change you. I just hope you can leave alone."
Ye Mingi’s voice was soft, as if afraid of angering him, but it was stifling for her to hold back.
After finishing her sentence, she cautiously glanced at Yu Xiuzhun and, realizing he wasn’t angry, continued speaking.
"Ning Yanan is about to give birth. Whatever grudges you hold shouldn’t drag in family mbers. If you want to deal with Jiang Jinchen, can’t you pick another ti?"
"Do I look like a good person to you? ’Do not involve innocent family and children’—those are words you should tell Jiang Jinchen. When he brought people to capture Yueman, he should’ve known that one day I’d co to settle the score!"
Yu Xiuzhun’s expression turned sinister, his teeth gnashing together in fury. "My own sister was set up by Dan Hanjie and Jiang Jinchen and is still rotting in prison. And here you are talking to about sparing family mbers. Don’t you think that’s hilarious?"
"..."
Talking to soone like him about morals was laughable to begin with.
Yet she didn’t know if it was a montary lapse of judgnt or pure foolishness, but she still couldn’t help wanting to persuade him.
Ye Mingi looked at his tense and conflicted face, then, afraid to plead on anyone else’s behalf anymore, bit her lip. "Then when will you let go? I only insulted you once; I should’ve paid my dues by now."
"You think I’m doing this out of revenge?" Yu Xiuzhun’s gaze flickered, growing darker and more nacing.
