Ye Mingi hugged a pillow as she sat on the sofa, her face full of displeasure.
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of a figure striding in and quickly fell silent.
Standing up from the sofa, “Dad.”
Ye Zhanxing didn’t look at her but turned his head to glance in Su Yiru’s direction, “You’re back, why didn’t you have soone pick you up from the airport?”
“I just got off the plane. It’s not my first ti, and a big fuss seems unnecessary,” Su Yiru replied with a smile, “Have you eaten? I’ll make sothing for you and your daughter.”
“No need, I ate outside. You just got back and shouldn’t overwork yourself; let the butler handle this. I have things to do; I’m going upstairs,” Ye Zhanxing said, his refined figure already disappearing at the stairway.
“Mom, you see how Dad has been ignoring lately,” Ye Mingi began to complain, tugging at her hand as soon as she saw Su Yiru freeze.
Patting her hand, Su Yiru said, “Alright, your dad hasn’t eaten, but Mom will make sothing for you. Look at you, full of complaints, what a sight.”
“Mom loves the most!”
Su Yiru said nothing and turned to enter the kitchen.
After lunch, she carried a bowl of soup upstairs.
“Zhanxing, I’m coming in.” Su Yiru knocked on the door. Not hearing Ye Zhanxing’s voice, she slowly pushed open the door to the study.
Ye Zhanxing’s tall figure was seated on the sofa chair, back turned towards the door, gazing out at the scenery through the window.
At the sound of movent, he suddenly turned around.
Rushing to speak, Su Yiru said, “You didn’t co down for lunch, so I brought you so soup. Work is work, but you must take care of yourself, otherwise, Mingi will be worried.”
She didn’t speak of herself but used her daughter as a shield.
Su Yiru, holding the soup, stepped forward.
“Just leave it there, I’ll drink it slowly,” Ye Zhanxing’s eyes flickered, reaching out to close the file in front of him, cleverly blocking the photo on the desk.
Su Yiru noticed his action but didn’t ask any questions.
After placing down the bowl of soup, she sat down beside him.
“Did Mingi do sothing to upset you? You and your daughter seem to be at odds,” Su Yiru observed.
“You should ask her what she did,” Ye Zhanxing interlaced his fingers, resting them on the table. “Just over a man, she disregarded the face of the Ye Family, causing who knows how many jokes. I had her grounded to make her reflect.”
“I know you’re doing it for her good, but Mingi has been spoiled since she was young. Don’t be too harsh; you could damage your father-daughter relationship,” Su Yiru softened her voice, reminding him out of concern.
“I know my limits. You just got off the plane, you should rest properly,” Ye Zhanxing picked up the soup bowl from the edge of the table and took a few sips, clearly disinclined to continue talking.
Su Yiru’s eyes flickered, she stood up, “Then I’ll go accompany Mingi, and you should rest as well.”
Ye Zhanxing simply looked up at her but said nothing.
Not until Su Yiru’s figure disappeared at the door did Ye Zhanxing set down the spoon.
Moving the file away from the photo, his gaze turned somber as he looked at the image of Jiang Yu, his fingers repeatedly tracing over the picture…
