Chapter 409 – To the Final Stage
“It’s not too dangerous.”
“Yes, it is.”
The first intercept was successful, and two more followed. The second time, about the same number of flying biters attacked us, but this time, we intercepted them all without missing a single one. Well, there was one that was intercepted and crashed to the deck, dead. In the third battle, when we had just finished intercepting the flying biters, there were fewer of them than in the first and second battles.
“Apparently, the number of flying biters around the nest has decreased.”
“Hmm, all is well.”
When I told Isla the information Darko had sent through the magic transmission tube, she nodded her head without changing her expression but with an air of satisfaction about her.
It’s not like a game with an endless stream of enemies; if you get rid of a lot of them, the number will decrease. No wonder. But are the flying biters really finished? It is hard to be sure. We can’t just send personnel in to check.
So what are we going to do? I have an idea.
“When it’s reduced a bit more, I’ll have the harpies poke it.”
“Hmm.”
A poke (bombardment). It will be a bit of an aggressive poke, but if the harpies’ air bombs are used to poke them, those holed up in the nests will have no choice but to e out. If they don’t e out, no matter how much we poke them, we will finally take a magic airship over their top and use the magic airship’s air bomb to clear the nest.
“Anyway, the first thing we have to do is to hook the enemy until they can’t be hooked anymore.”
“Hmm. We have to be very careful.”
“We can’t take too long, though, because we have a time limit.”
The time limit means the time limit for the activity of the flying dragons driven by the dragon riders. The flying dragons they ride are living creatures. In other words, if they fly for a long time, they will get tired and hungry. A magic airship can fly as long as there is enough food and water to keep the crew alive, but that is not the case with flying dragons. They would have to fly the return trip, so they would have to leave with enough energy left over.
“At the very least, they will have to leave the cleanup to us and go home first.”

After the flying biters from the nests are stopped, the dragon riders will no longer need to take direct cover. For their part, they will be reluctant to talk about it, but in any case, their first priority will be to return home safely. At that point, they will have no choice but to retreat in tears.

Three more sporadic attacks were intercepted. The number had dwindled to less than ten, and it was time for the girls to leave.

The harpies, armed with air bombs, took off one by one, escorted by the dragon riders, and flew toward the nest of the flying biters.

The riflemen who had watched the harpies fly away with me began to prepare to intercept. With the riflemen at their side, the military observers gathered on the port side of the magic airship and watched the nest of flying biters.
“I can’t get a sense of distance. How far away is this?”
“Hmm… Well, if the wind is good, about a quarter of an hour in a sailboat.”
“If they don’t e three times as far as they have so far, we won’t be able to do much.”
How hungry are you for a fight? Are you all bat freaks or something? Not many of our soldiers are so belligerent. Is it a national trait?

I saw what looked like a cloud of dust rising around the rugged rocky area halfway up the mountain where the dragon riders and harpies had flown over. It was probably an aerial bomb exploding. Starting with the first cloud of dust, cloud after cloud of dust rose on the rocky hillside, and the surface of the rocky hillside was visibly scraped away. Then, a series of sounds like distant thunder could be heard. The sound of an aerial bomb exploding came late.
“Oh!”
“The rock pile is shattering!”
“How can a dozen or so harpies cause this kind of destruction?”

While some were simply astonished, others were calmly analyzing the power of the air bombs. Judging from their words and actions, they must be the military officers of a maritime nation in the north. I don’t think a sailing ship the size of Jupiter would be able to withstand them. Or rather, even this magic airship made of magically channeled wood would not be able to withstand the air bombs the harpies are equipped with if it were to take a serious hit.
“Oops, they’re up.”
Perhaps angered by the attack on their nests, a good number of flying biters began to take off from here and there on the rocky slope. But there were not as many as I had expected. Surprisingly, the number of flying biters is not that high… No, counting the ones we killed before we got to the nest, we have already killed over a hundred flying biters. They are quite large monsters, and considering that what we can see from here is a single colony, about a hundred flying adults might be a realistic number.
“Now es the moment of truth.”
I pull an assault rifle from a shortcut and get it ready. The mand of the bridge was given to Isla. I wanted to fight at the side of the riflemen at least once. There are things you don’t realize until you’re actually there. Well, even though I’m going to fight, I’m only going to follow them and not actively try to shoot down flying biters. Instead of fighting, my job is to look at the scene and see if there is anything that can be improved.
