"Mom, don’t worry. I’ll definitely take care of my health from now on. Nothing is more important than a healthy body," Xu Hai said seriously, making it seem as if he had suffered so major injury this ti.
The patient next door, whose leg was wrapped in thick gauze, rolled his eyes. Xu Hai’s condition could be cured with a pancake, yet he made such a fuss. Really enough.
Xu Mumu blushed slightly, but in front of others, she couldn’t expose her dad. Xu Hai receiving an IV here was simply a waste of public resources.
After Xu Hai finished the IV, Xu Mumu and the others went to the hospital side to pay for the dicine.
Walking out of this makeshift clinic, Xu Mumu watched her dad happily carrying the IV bottle and was speechless.
"Dad, why are you carrying that bottle? Put it back," Xu Mumu said helplessly.
"Silly girl, I went through quite an effort to get this from Doctor Lin," Xu Hai said, looking at his daughter with a bit of a headache. Good things should naturally be brought ho, right?
"What are you going to do with this bottle?" Xu Mumu asked, scratching her head.
"Silly, the winter is so cold. With this bottle, you can heat so water, put it inside, and then into the bed. It’s so warm," Xu Hai said with a smile.
"Dad, you really have foresight." Well, Xu Mumu never thought of these things. Winters here, from her mory, are quite cold. When she first ca, it was the beginning of spring, and the weather was pretty chilly.
"That’s right, I even wanted a couple more, but Doctor Lin is too stingy, wouldn’t give them to no matter what," Xu Hai complained about Doctor Lin who gave him the drip.
"Alright, Dad, having one is already pretty good," Xu Mumu said with a smile.
Back ho, Li Caixia liked the IV bottle so much that she hid it away imdiately.
Xu Mumu watched this silently, her perception of her parents once again refreshed. They even considered an IV bottle a treasure.
The reservoir repair took about ten days. Xu Mumu noticed that her dad had lost so weight. During this ti he pretended to be sick once more and worked for about ten days. He not only lost weight but also got much tanner.
"You’ve suffered, Dad," Li Caixia said tenderly, touching Xu Hai’s face.
"It’s all worth it for you," Xu Hai said with a smile.
Xu Mumu silently turned and left, letting her parents be all lovey-dovey. She decided to go teach the little kids instead.
The reservoir was repaired and reinforced a lot, so it won’t breach again for at least several years. However, there’s significantly less water in it now, making next spring’s planting difficult.
The two teams near the dam suffered heavy losses. The grain station will release grain, so Xu Mumu doesn’t need to worry about that.
One day, while Xu Mumu was tutoring a few kids at ho, Du Yu unexpectedly ca over to play. He ca alone.
"Mumu, are you tutoring your siblings every day?" Du Yu asked, widening his eyes as he looked at the kids. To be honest, he didn’t like children much, thinking they were too naughty.
"Yeah, I don’t have much else to do. Teaching them more ans they can learn better when they go to school," Xu Mumu said calmly.
"Wow, such a high-end gadget. Where’d you get it? I can’t even snag one," Du Yu exclaid in surprise as he saw the tape recorder the kids were using for their study.
"A friend helped buy it," Xu Mumu said with a light smile.
"Lend it to for a bit, would you? My cousin has so music tapes," Du Yu said enviously, looking at Xu Mumu with puppy eyes.
"I’ll lend it to you for a couple of days after school starts. They need it to study every day now," Xu Mumu said calmly.
"Alright, no problem. You’re so generous," Du Yu said excitedly, giving Xu Mumu a pat on the back.
Xu Mumu looked at the hand on her shoulder and struggled hard to refrain from flipping him.
"Don’t touch ," Xu Mumu said coolly.
"Got it, got it." Under Xu Mumu’s gaze, Du Yu couldn’t help but withdraw his hand. Her look gave him the illusion that she might break his arm.
"Why does your gaze feel so intimidating, like it’s full of murder?" Du Yu said, baffled at Xu Mumu.
"Your imagination," Xu Mumu rolled her eyes. He was asking for it, daring to pat her shoulder.
When Du Yu ca to the house, Li Caixia and the others were incredibly pleased, especially Li Caixia, looking at Du Yu as if he were her son-in-law. Unfortunately, neither of them had any such intentions.
By evening, Du Yu went ho.
A few days later, the Xu Family received news that Tian Fang was getting married.
After asking the person who delivered the ssage, the Xu Family generally understood what was going on.
The Tian Family didn’t have enough money, and since Tian Fang was of marrying age, they arranged with a family offering a decent dowry, setting a wedding date.
As for the groom’s side, the ssenger didn’t say much, hesitating but ultimately saying nothing.
"Getting married next month, in such a hurry," Old Xu sighed.
"Well, it couldn’t have been anyone good if it’s this rushed," Madam Chen said calmly, not caring much. Tian Fang was just a granddaughter through marriage. Since she didn’t care much for her daughter, she naturally didn’t mind her granddaughter except for Xu Mumu. Her real granddaughters never caught her interest, so why would she bother with one from elsewhere?
"Grandma, are we going?" Xu Mumu asked.
"We’ll go. Just have your dad represent the family, give two yuan for a gift, that’s enough. Your aunt sent a ssage for the wedding just to get money," Madam Chen said blandly.
"Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll make sure to eat enough to make up for the gift," Xu Hai said with a smile.
"Humph." Madam Chen cast a sidelong glance at her son.
Tian Fang’s marriage wasn’t a concern for Xu Mumu. Her aunt’s gambling husband’s issues were for them to solve. Why should she interfere?
Xu Mumu continued to spend her days at ho teaching the kids. With more ti at ho, she could teach them more and more deeply. Luckily, the kids were keeping up with her pace.
"Sis, another essay today? We’ve been writing for days, can we do sothing else?" Xu Minglei said, exasperated.
"Nope, your essays aren’t up to my standard yet. I bought you all those essay books, you’ve only skimd through them. Rember anything?" Xu Mumu laughed coldly. As they learned more, the kids grew lax. They hardly referenced the material she bought, choosing instead to ss with the tape recorder. At least they were learning English quite well.
"Get writing, no whining, or there won’t be any treats for you all," Xu Mumu said with a smile. She’d seen canned fruit at the co-op a few days ago and brought two cans ho.
The kids had already polished off one, and with the delicious canned fruit on their minds, Xu Mumu used it as a reward for them again.
