Buckley Quill confessed.
He not only confessed about Myra Walsh.
He also listed incidents of teachers and parents from the Third Middle School being coerced.
This is what you call, "Don't bla for being ruthless if you were heartless first."
Maeve Winters and two other officers, one recording, one taking statents.
The whole process lasted a full hour.
Dirk Carter's plan was simple yet complex, from start to finish, it was a psychological battle.
At the beginning, he purposely lingered at Class 8's door to make Buckley Quill nervous.
Once Buckley was nervous, he presented clear-cut evidence to make him mistakenly believe he was being frad by Yorke Payne and Rand Quance. Coupled with being surrounded by four people, his emotions were constantly tense.
Dirk Carter and Maeve Winters played good cop and bad cop.
Buckley Quill, who had no experience dealing with the police, finally broke down under the step-by-step inducent.
The statent was completed.
Maeve Winters pulled Dirk Carter outside.
She asked, "What do we do next?"
Dirk Carter pondered for a mont.
He said, "Now that things have reached this point, they should realize they can't hide it anymore. If nothing unexpected happens, Yorke Payne has already got the news. He will definitely make one last struggle."
Maeve Winters asked, "So, should I take Buckley to the city bureau first?"
Dirk Carter waved his hand, saying, "Before the people from the city bureau arrive, you definitely can't leave. Once you hit the road, no one can guarantee there won't be any accidents. Buckley Quill absolutely cannot have an incident, otherwise, both you and I will be in trouble."
"Then what should we do? We can't just hide here, can we?"
Maeve Winters asked.
Dirk Carter thought for a mont and said, "There's no place to hide. Let's all head to the Education Bureau. Since it's an issue within the education system, we'll hold the final showdown there."
With that said.
Buckley Quill, handcuffed, was escorted to the police car.
Maeve Winters imdiately reported the situation to the city bureau leadership.
Dirk Carter ordered two Education Bureau vehicles to escort the police car, one in front and one behind, heading to the Education Bureau compound.
But before they arrived.
Dirk Carter received a call from Declan Newhart.
He said the county police bureau issued a notice, based on reliable information, that a suspect wanted online appeared on the streets of Kenton County, and is placing the whole city under a 6-hour lockdown.
Lockdown?
Just as Dirk Carter predicted.
The person above Yorke Payne had incredible reach.
They could directly issue a lockdown order.
This showed that in order to protect Yorke Payne, they had already acted.
Once locked down.
The city bureau people wouldn't be able to co.
And Maeve Winters and the others surely wouldn't be able to leave.
Given the 6-hour lockdown.
That ant Yorke Payne would launch a "counterattack" against them within six hours.
Indeed.
Inside Yorke Payne's office.
Two people were sitting.
One was Yorke Payne, the other was a man in his fifties, sitting across from him, staring at him with fierce eyes.
After a mont of silence.
The man picked up a folder from the coffee table and slamd it violently on Yorke Payne's head several tis.
Yorke Payne didn't dare move, letting the folder repeatedly hit his head.
"Idiot, idiot, idiot..."
The man cursed as he hit.
Perhaps he got tired of hitting.
The man stopped, slightly out of breath, angrily said, "You're even a deputy county head, can't even handle a little bureau chief, you're a waste!"
Yorke Payne swallowed.
He said, "Leader, I underestimated Dirk Carter, but I assure you, no matter the outco, I'll bear all the consequences alone, absolutely won't drag you in."
"You assure ? What are you assuring with? Your life?"
The man called the leader yelled.
Yorke Payne wiped the sweat from his forehead, saying, "Leader, at your command, I can die."
The determination to face death.
Also slightly eased the man's anger.
He said, "You haven't reached a point where you need to die, I've got word, Dirk Carter has taken him to the Education Bureau. I've secured six hours of lockdown. Within these six hours, I don't care what ans you use, get rid of Buckley Quill for . If you can't, then just go die yourself. Don't worry about your family, I'll take care of them."
"Yes, Leader."
Yorke Payne nodded and said.
The man sighed deeply.
Stood up.
Walked to the door, then suddenly rembered sothing.
He said, "Little Payne, make sure you don't try any tricks, you know my thods. If I find out you've done sothing you shouldn't, your family's bodies will show up in Southmarch Reservoir, am I clear enough?"
"Clear, clear."
Yorke Payne nodded repeatedly and said.
The man opened the door and left.
Once the footsteps receded.
Yorke Payne sat in a daze on the sofa for a while.
Then he stood up.
Took out a bottle of whiskey from the cabinet.
After opening it, he gulped down half.
Wiped his lips and took out his phone.
The first call, was made to Rand Quance.
But the phone was already off.
Based on his understanding of Rand Quance, he likely fled at the first notice.
Since Rand Quance was unreliable now, he could only rely on himself.
Thinking of this.
He opened the drawer.
His hand reached inside, feeling around a hidden spot.
Not long after.
He retrieved an item wrapped in yellow tape.
After peeling off the layers of tape.
What appeared in his hand was a plastic bag, inside was a rudintary homade BB gun.
The gun looked very crudely made.
Yorke Payne sat down, took a BB from the plastic bag.
Carefully loaded it into the barrel.
After loading was complete.
Yorke Payne glanced around his office.
Then his gaze fell on a family photo in front of him.
As if making a resolution, he pointed the gun to his temple.
Though determined inside.
His right hand still trembled uncontrollably.
Facing death, no one is unafraid.
After hesitating for a while, he bit his lip, and finally pulled the trigger.
"Bang."
The crisp sound echoed through the county governnt compound.
The leader who just reached downstairs heard the gunshot, looked up towards the building with a grim expression, took out his phone, and dialed a number.
Once the call connected.
The leader said, "Lift the lockdown, dispatch the criminal police team to the Education Bureau, and coordinate with the city bureau comrades in investigating the Buckley Quill case."
Then.
He sighed deeply again and left.
Back at the Education Bureau.
Dirk Carter remained on high alert.
As he predicted.
Yorke Payne would never give up easily.
About twenty minutes later.
Four or five police cars drove into the Education Bureau's building.
A group of officers got out.
Maeve Winters communicated with them, then ca to inform Dirk Carter, telling him the lockdown had ended and the county criminal police were here to see if there was anything they could help with.
"Are you sure that's what they said?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Maeve Winters nodded, saying, "They said the city bureau's call has already reached the county bureau, so they ca to cooperate."
Dirk Carter shivered, saying, "No, sothing might have happened to Yorke Payne."
"What did you say?"
Maeve Winters paused and asked.
As the words left her mouth.
Dirk Carter's phone rang.
Seeing the number, it was Declan Newhart calling.
As soon as the phone reached his ear, Declan Newhart said, "Just got news from the County Committee compound, Yorke Payne shot himself in the office..."
Dirk Carter froze in his spot.
He had considered that Yorke Payne might fight back or flee, but he never thought Yorke Payne would commit suicide.
Instantly, Dylan Tate ca to mind.
Taking a deep breath, he murmured, "Yorke Payne's superior must be a significant figure in the county..."
