"Is that a threat, Director yer?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Adair yer smiled faintly and said, "That depends on how Director Carter interprets it. In my view, it's just a small, kind reminder."
"So, I can't take Gilroy Thompson?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Adair yer said coldly, "My people, you can't touch."
"What if I insist?"
"I said you can't, but if you don't believe it, feel free to try."
Adair yer's words filled Gilroy Thompson's face with smugness.
If soone else had said those words, they might have been empty threats.
But when Adair yer says it, it's different. After all, his family background gives him the courage to speak that way.
Everyone thought Dirk Carter was out of options in this situation.
After all, the evidence had been destroyed.
With Adair yer present, the disciplinary team dared not act rashly.
But there wasn't much disappointnt on Dirk Carter's face.
He glanced toward the bathroom.
And asked, "Director yer, do you really think you've destroyed the evidence?"
"What else?"
Adair yer asked.
"If you don't mind, look back."
Upon hearing this,
everyone looked outside.
And they were shocked to see that the corridor was already full of people, all in uniform.
Leading them was a serious-looking woman.
"Anti-Corruption Bureau, Lauren Radford."
The woman showed her credentials to Adair yer.
Then waved her hands.
The anti-corruption team stread into the room.
"Who is Gilroy Thompson?"
Lauren Radford asked.
At that mont, Gilroy Thompson sensed that sothing was wrong.
He quickly reached out his hand and said, "That's ."
With a blank expression, Lauren Radford said, "Take him away!"
Several anti-corruption personnel promptly handcuffed Gilroy Thompson.
"Comrade, there must be a mistake, right?"
Adair yer, still not giving up, asked Lauren Radford.
Lauren Radford took out so papers from her briefcase and said, "No mistake. We've already investigated Gilroy Thompson for manipulating exam results, abusing his authority for bribery, and colluding with idle personnel to intentionally harm others."
At this mont, Adair yer noticed the papers in Lauren Radford's hands, which were the very exam papers he had just burned.
How could this be?
Not only was he shocked,
but everyone including Colette Wagner and others were left with their mouths agape.
What was going on?
They all simultaneously looked at Dirk Carter.
At this point, Dirk Carter needed to provide an explanation.
He smiled slyly and said, "Director yer, don't bla for holding a card up my sleeve. Given your prominence at the Work Safety Administration, I'm no match against you as the new deputy director. So at noon, I made a copy. As for the originals, I sent them to the Anti-Corruption Bureau long ago."
"You tricked ?"
Adair yer was infuriated.
He gritted his teeth and asked.
Dirk Carter waved his hand and said, "How could it be a trick? I didn't know Director yer would co, nor did I know you'd destroy the evidence personally. It's just a coincidence."
Adair yer was so angry,
he didn't know how to refute.
His confident speeches earlier, thinking he had control of the situation, now seed like he was a clown being toyed with by Dirk Carter.
"Dirk Carter, just you wait, I won't let you have an easy ti."
Adair yer was truly enraged.
He clenched his fist and said to Dirk Carter.
Dirk Carter chuckled, pointing to Hawkeye, and said, "Director yer, I forgot to introduce this young lady. She's a reporter from Ardmore Evening News. From the mont she entered, she's been recording everything said in this room."
What?
Adair yer quickly looked at Hawkeye.
Hawkeye took a recorder from her pocket, proudly waving it at Adair yer.
Which ant that all his arrogant words had been recorded. If it were to be spread, he, as the deputy director...
Thinking of this,
Adair yer's fist loosened.
Forcing a slight smile,
he said to Dirk Carter, "Director Carter, can we talk?"
"Director yer's invitation, of course."
Dirk Carter confidently followed Adair yer to the end of the hotel's corridor.
"Director Carter, there are reasons for what happened; I won't explain further. It's my mishandling. In the future, anything concerning the Work Safety Administration will be my responsibility. What do you think?"
By now, Adair yer had lowered his stance.
Dirk Carter asked, "You an to say, don't publicize the recording, right?"
"Director Carter is smart, knowing without saying."
"What's in it for ?"
"What do you want?"
Adair yer asked.
Dirk Carter thought for a mont and said, "I'm just worried it'd be hard for you, Director yer."
"Just say it. As long as I can do it, I'll make it happen."
Adair yer was all in.
Dirk Carter thought for a mont, smacking his lips, and said, "Since Director yer is so sincere, I'll say it. First, investigate Gilroy Thompson's matter to the end, irrespective of who's involved and bring them to justice. Second, since Director yer said Gilroy Thompson is your man, as a leader, you must take responsibility. Go apologize to Brigham Langdon, and regardless of the dical or compensation costs, pay them yourself."
"Dirk Carter!"
Adair yer emphasized his tone, shouting.
Knowing he was triggering Adair's anger, Dirk Carter feigned confusion and asked, "Director yer, is it challenging?"
Adair yer was on the verge of exploding with anger.
Yet now, what's he to do?
Gritting his teeth, he said, "Fine, I'll do as you say."
After getting this answer, Dirk Carter didn't linger and turned to leave.
Gilroy Thompson, rely in a towel, was taken away by the anti-corruption personnel.
The whole matter had a triple benefit.
Firstly, Dirk Carter, the newcor, quickly established authority at the Work Safety Administration by removing Adair yer's confidant.
Secondly, Hawkeye not only got the first-hand news material but also fulfilled her promise to Brigham Langdon.
And the third benefit was for Lauren Radford.
The Dylan Tate suicide case had seen no progress.
Lauren Radford, as the team leader, endured imnse pressure.
Breaking such a certificate forgery case could relieve her predicant to so extent.
At the hotel's entrance,
watching Adair yer leave angrily, Hawkeye asked, "If this recording gets published, Adair yer wouldn't last at the Work Safety Administration. Wouldn't that benefit you more? Why don't you let publish it?"
Dirk Carter smiled.
And said, "If you take this recording back, not only cannot it be released, but you might also face punishnt. Being transferred would be the least of your concerns; whether you can get the position is uncertain."
"Why?"
Hawkeye blinked her big eyes and asked.
