What's going on?
Why are there so many police officers here?
And judging by their attire, they're clearly not regular officers from the police station.
There must be a dozen or so of them.
Each officer has a tactical belt on.
And there's a pistol holstered at their waist.
Once they rushed out, they lined up in front of Dirk Carter, assuming an offensive stance, with their hands on their holsters, ready to draw their guns at any mont.
Ordinary people have never seen such a spectacle.
Seeing this intimidating display.
They all began to back away.
"What's going on? So many police officers showed up, and there was no prior notice?"
Tristan Reid softly cursed to the young man beside him.
The young man felt wronged as well.
He said, "I don't know either, the county hasn't called."
"Could it be that Dahlia Hughes mobilized them without authorization?"
Tristan Reid mumbled sothing under his breath.
Just then, the young man suddenly leaned in and said, "Magistrate Sumrs is here."
Tristan Reid felt a surge of relief.
The savior had finally arrived.
Just as he turned around, he saw Sherman Sumrs approaching with a group, his face sullen.
Sherman Sumrs was fifty this year.
He stood a little over one ter seventy, but he was quite slight.
He wore thick glasses on his nose, giving him a gentle appearance.
Dylan Tate had once told Dirk Carter that if anyone were to be truly cunning, even he couldn't compare to Sherman Sumrs.
During his ti as Dylan Tate's deputy,
Sherman Sumrs had always been conscientious. To everyone, he appeared to be the least ambitious person, but who would have thought he was backing Tristan Reid?
All along,
the bamboo products industry of Sunglow Town had been his most prized political achievent.
"You can't even handle a trivial matter; what use are you?"
As Tristan Reid stepped forward,
Sherman Sumrs gave him a sharp glare.
Then he walked with his hands behind his back to the iron gate.
He said, "Open the gate!"
With a low creak of the hinges, the already shaky gate was opened.
He stepped inside in one stride.
Glancing at the line of police officers, he posed mockingly, "Nonsense, which unit do you belong to? Who ordered you here? Bringing guns one by one, what for? Are you planning to harm the citizens?"
The police officers remained silent.
They just stared at him indifferently.
Sherman Sumrs suddenly felt very humiliated.
He turned around and said, "Danel Walsh, note down all their badge numbers, and after we return, handle them one by one. This is utter lawlessness, daring to act without regard for organization. Do you still respect the role of the People's Police?"
Danel Walsh was the county office director.
Upon hearing this,
he imdiately took out a notebook.
Just as he was about to write,
a woman's voice ca from the gate.
"No need to note them down, you have no authority to handle them."
"Who? Who dares utter such nonsense?"
Danel Walsh yelled loudly.
At this mont, a young woman in a police uniform walked out.
She walked leisurely to the center of the courtyard, even flashing a charming smile at Dirk Carter during the pause.
Then she turned to Sherman Sumrs and said, "Maeve Winters, Deputy Captain of the Ardmore City Police Departnt's Criminal Investigation Unit, reporting to Magistrate Sumrs."
Upon hearing this.
Sherman Sumrs furrowed his brows slightly.
He asked, "From the city's criminal investigation team? What are you doing here?"
Maeve Winters smiled lightly and said, "We received a tip that a criminal suspect we are pursuing fled to Sunglow Town, so I brought the team here secretly. We didn't expect to stumble upon the public storming a state organ, so we from the city police departnt had to intervene."
"Storming a state organ? Looks like Officer Winters really needs to brush up on her law; how did a town health center beco a state organ? This is sheer nonsense!"
Maeve Winters said, "Originally a town health center wasn't a state organ, but just a few days ago, the Stillwater County Health Departnt established the Sunglow Town Health Center here as well, so it's now considered a state organ."
No sooner had these words been spoken,
Sherman Sumrs was imdiately taken aback.
He glanced sharply at Dirk Carter.
However, he saw him acting normally.
With a sense of understanding, he said angrily, "Well played, Dirk Carter, coming from the health departnt you're well-prepared with contingency asures. So now, I'm unable to handle you?"
"Magistrate Sumrs, your words are a bit unfair to Dirk Carter. I've long since left the health departnt, and this decision was made by the health departnt committee. What could I do? Besides, with Officer Winters coming to Sunglow Town on official business, as the mayor I naturally have to cooperate. Is there anything wrong with that?"
Just one sentence.
And Sherman Sumrs was rendered speechless.
The Sunglow Town Health Center had beco a state organ.
As such, the public gathering in such numbers constituted a cri of assaulting a state organ.
The city criminal investigation team was here for a case.
Encountering a cri in progress, they undoubtedly had to act.
As a county magistrate, he couldn't find any fault.
The sense of frustration was overwhelming, like having a stomach full of bitterness that couldn't be expressed.
"Leader, these people are all rchants who've suffered losses in the fire. They're not here to cause trouble, just to see the arsonist Denton Quincy and seek justice. Mayor Carter stopped us, wouldn't let us in, or let us see him, so everyone felt uneasy and ca over on their own. There's nothing wrong with that, is there?"
Seeing Sherman Sumrs being thwarted,
Tristan Reid imdiately stepped in and said.
Sherman Sumrs seed to grab a lifeline.
He authoritatively asked again, "How is the suspect?"
"The suspect is receiving treatnt at the health center, currently in stable condition."
Dirk Carter replied.
"You're lying!"
Tristan Reid shouted.
Dirk Carter furrowed his brows and asked, "Old Mayor, with all due respect, the suspect has been under my supervision. Do I not know if I'm lying? Unless you've done sothing yourself to be sure I'm lying?"
A case of 'there's no three hundred taels of silver here.'
Tristan Reid's face looked a bit uneasy.
After a pause, he said, "Anyway, unless we see Denton Quincy today, we're not leaving."
"Yes, we're not leaving!"
Soone in the crowd echoed.
Sherman Sumrs, posing as a diator, said, "Dirk Carter, the people just want to see the suspect, it's not unreasonable. After all, everyone has suffered significant losses. The law cannot trump human feelings; if it's not too much trouble, I can go in myself to reassure everyone. You won't stop from doing that, will you?"
"Magistrate Sumrs, it's not that I don't want to let you see him, but it's inconvenient now. The investigation team is interrogating Denton Quincy."
Dirk Carter's refusal,
Tristan Reid saw it as stalling for ti.
He sneered and said, "Mayor Carter, could it be that sothing happened to Denton Quincy, and you're deliberately not letting us see him?"
"Dirk Carter, did sothing happen to the suspect?"
Sherman Sumrs also asked seriously.
"No, I've already said, he's being interrogated."
Dirk Carter said.
"Nonsense, the suspect must have been injured; that's why you're not letting Magistrate Sumrs see him. If you have the guts, let him out now; we just want to take a look from afar."
Tristan Reid demanded challengingly.
"Yes, we won't go in; we just want a glimpse from afar."
Once again, soone in the crowd echoed.
Sherman Sumrs, naturally assured, imdiately put on a stern face and said, "Dirk Carter, I command you, as the county magistrate, to bring the suspect out. If you can't, I'll have to go in myself."
Seeing Dirk Carter unmoved,
Tristan Reid sneered and said, "Dirk Carter, aren't you capable? What's the matter? Are you playing dumb with us now?"
