"I originally thought you could beco a gold dal son-in-law, but now it seems there's no hope."

Dirk Carter laughed at himself.

He said, "They say that people are born equal, but that's all a bunch of nonsense. In reality, people get branded with their social class from birth. Like Dorothy Zechariah, her biggest worry should be what to wear today or what bag to carry. anwhile, so of her peers worry about whether they can eat today or where to borrow money to pay for their parents' dical bills."

"Are you trying to say that you and she are not in the sa class?"

Ewan Forrest asked.

Dirk Carter shook his head, but his gaze beca more determined.

He said, "No, I an I want to change this inherent class difference. Perhaps I can't make everyone prosperous everywhere I go, but I will do my best to eliminate these unfairnesses, even if the road is full of hardships."

After saying this.

Dirk Carter turned and left.

At that mont, Ewan Forrest stood still, feeling as if a storm had gone through his mind.

He looked at Dirk Carter's back and seed to see sothing different.

Ring, ring, ring.

The phone rang at an inconvenient ti.

He picked up the phone and saw that it was Caleb Ford calling.

"Hey, Boss Archer."

"Did you finish the task I asked you to do?"

"Boss Archer, we searched all over Dirk Carter inside and out and did not find the black notebook you ntioned. Is there a chance that you might have been mistaken?"

Ewan Forrest asked.

On the phone.

Caleb Ford was silent for a mont.

He said, "If that's the case, then you all should co back first. I'll handle the rest myself."

"Boss Archer—"

Ewan suddenly said.

Caleb was startled and asked, "Is there anything else?"

"Uh... no, Little Gui and I will be back tomorrow."

"Okay."

With that, Caleb hung up the phone.

Strange, I clearly dislike Dirk Carter. Now that I'm finally going back, why do I feel a bit reluctant?

Ewan Forrest asked himself.

...

The arrest of Tristan Reid.

Soon stirred a great commotion in Sunglow Town.

The town governnt's courtyard seed calm and gentle.

But in reality, it was already seething with undercurrents.

As Dirk Carter just returned to his office, the door was knocked on.

Zach Griffin opened the door and turned to Dirk Carter, saying, "Boss, Director Mitchell is here."

Director Mitchell?

Mitchell Childers?

Dirk Carter chuckled to himself and said, "Oh, then let him in."

As the door opened, he saw Mitchell Childers with a semi-smiling face.

"Hehe, Mayor Carter, you're not busy, are you?"

"No, I just finished. I was thinking of taking a break."

Dirk Carter said.

Upon hearing this, Mitchell Childers imdiately said, "Then I won't disturb Mayor Carter's rest. I'll co back later."

With that, he made a gesture to leave.

Dirk Carter said, "Since Director Mitchell is here, let's talk about the matter first."

Mitchell Childers rubbed his hands, nervously saying, "Actually, it's nothing serious. Mayor Carter, I'm here mainly to apologize to you."

"Apologize? Apologize for what?"

"Hehe, Mayor Carter, earlier I was not thinking straight and contradicted you during the eting. I regretted it for a long ti after returning and thought I should apologize to you in person."

Mitchell Childers, this guy, truly a fair-weather friend.

Did he perhaps hear about Tristan Reid's downfall and co to curry favor?

Dirk Carter curved into a slight smile.

He said, "Director Mitchell, you overstate it. Having different voices at a eting is normal. That's what collective leadership and democracy are all about, no need to take it to heart."

"Mayor Carter is indeed magnanimous. I'm very grateful. If there's anything Director Mitchell can help with in the future, just let Mayor Carter say the word."

Upon hearing this from Dirk Carter

Mitchell Childers finally felt at ease.

Dirk Carter said, "There is indeed sothing, Director Mitchell. Do you know the Brianna Grocery Store diagonally opposite our town governnt?"

Mitchell Childers frowned and thought for a while. He said, "I know, I know, the owner is Brianna Quincy, but I've never dealt with them."

"I heard that he has a cousin in your station, right?"

Mitchell Childers thought again.

He said, "It should be Dakarai Hamilton from our station. Why? Does Mayor Carter have sothing to handle?"

Dirk Carter paused and said, "There is indeed sothing I need to handle, and I hope Director Mitchell can support it."

Once he heard there was a chance to redeem himself,

Mitchell Childers was delighted.

He quickly said, "What support? Mayor Carter, just give the word."

Dirk Carter smiled slightly.

He walked to Mitchell Childers' ear and whispered a few words.

Mitchell Childers thumped his chest and said, "Mayor Carter, rest assured. I will arrange this well and make sure not to disappoint you."

...

It was truly a hasty and thrilling day.

After work, back at the apartnt.

Reviewing the events of the past few days, Dirk Carter still felt a little apprehensive.

This matter was like a high-stakes gamble for him.

If he won, Dahlia Hughes would completely beco his backing, and he could establish his footing in Sunglow Town.

If he lost,

his career in Sunglow Town would beco a quagmire, either sinking in without ever getting out or getting buried alive, ending his life.

Luckily,

he won the gamble.

The sense of victory was really quite satisfying.

Just then, he suddenly heard a subtle sound.

Dirk Carter smiled knowingly.

He quickly turned off the bedroom light.

Sure enough.

A minute later.

The bedroom door was gently opened.

A figure slipped in.

The tall figure stood by the bed, doing nothing, just staring at Dirk Carter.

Standing there for a few minutes.

She sighed softly and was about to leave.

As she tiptoed to the door, suddenly, a pair of hands hugged her waist.

The figure shivered.

She wanted to struggle but was directly tossed onto the bed by Dirk Carter.

Subconsciously wanting to get up.

But Dirk Carter was faster.

He sat on her waist.

The two hands held her hands down tightly.

"Despicable, you're pretending to be asleep again!"

Ewan Forrest shouted angrily.

Dirk Carter laughed, "Co on, you co and go as you please in my house. This is trespassing, do you understand? And you dare call despicable?"

"I... I ca to the wrong place, can't I?"

"Ca to the wrong place? You've co to my bedroom multiple tis. You must miss , right?"

Dirk Carter teased.

Ewan Forrest's face turned red.

She argued, "I hate you the most. How could I miss you? You're just a rogue and a big scoundrel, always bullying ."

"Yes, I do enjoy bullying you."

After that.

Dirk Carter let go of her hands.

He directly pulled at Ewan Forrest's collar.

With a tearing sound, he unzipped her tight-fitting jacket.

"Don't—"

Ewan Forrest didn't have ti to say the rest.

Dirk Carter pulled the bra down.

Two glaring headlights swayed into view.

"Stop—"

She wanted to resist.

But still, it was too late.

Dirk Carter leaned down and took the pink 'bulb' on the headlight into his mouth...
