Chapter 1006: Chapter 694: Blade of Judgnt_2 Chapter 1006: Chapter 694: Blade of Judgnt_2 “Don’t be so quick to anger, young man.”
Ben seed very calm, even when his clothes were being grasped, he stared at Klay and shook his head.
“You know why I had to do this.”
“……………”
Klay let go of his grasp and, in a huff, turned his head away, looking down at the fortress below in silence.
anwhile, Ben straightened out his clothes.
“Believe , kid, I’ve seen many young people like you, who have listened to the heroic epics and dream of saving the world single-handedly, like the Mithril Quartet or the Neverwinter Hero. But let’s be clear, we don’t have that kind of power; we can’t deal with so many Goblins and Mountain Giants. I know you are eager to prove yourself and ambition is good, but being reckless is quite another matter.”
“……….”
“Are you married?”
Upon hearing this question, Klay nodded in dejection.
“My daughter is already one year old.”
“Then you should also understand that for your wife and child, you need to try to stay alive. The Tribunal gave you such good conditions not for you to go and get yourself killed.”
At Ben’s words, Klay was montarily at a loss for words.
Klay was a Ranger who initially lived a peaceful life with his wife in a small village however, that village was later attacked by brigands. Although Klay protected his wife, the entire village was destroyed. For Klay, those were the most painful days; they were holess, forced to live through wind and rain, and his wife was even pregnant. Klay felt completely powerless in such circumstances.
In the end, they chose to go to the Tribunal.
In Arkham City, Klay decided to give up his identity as a free Ranger and join the Blade of Judgnt as a Soldier.
The Tribunal’s treatnt was beyond Klay’s imagination, as after he beca a Blade of Judgnt, he received his own housing, sothing totally unimaginable for Klay. Generally, soldiers would live in large dormitories, a big room with a dozen or so bunk beds cramd in, a group of sweaty n resting among them. Only those with a little spare money could afford to rent a house, and buying one was even more difficult.
In fact, when Klay first ca to Arkham City, he had thought about using his savings to rent a place and sohow make a living there. But to his surprise, after he had completed the paperwork, the clerk who processed his docunts gave him a wholly new option.
“If you wish, you can choose to live in an apartnt building.”
According to the clerk, the so-called apartnt building was a tall building, and as long as Klay was willing to sign the agreent, they could move in, of course, the monthly rent would be deducted automatically from his salary. But compared to the rent outside, it was already very cheap.
Klay had little choice but to nod in agreent.
Admittedly, Klay was initially not accustod to this strange architectural style. In the Faelun World, people built their hos by staking out a piece of land and building whatever they wanted. Especially in remote villages, if you had the ability, you could even take over an entire mountain without anyone caring.
But in Arkham City, it was different; Klay’s rented apartnt was a standard two-bedroom, one-living-room setup, furnished with a kitchen and bathroom, and other equipnt readily available. It was quite convenient, and he could even admire the view outside through the colorful floor-to-ceiling windows when he got up in the morning.
However, as a Ranger, Klay still preferred a house with its own courtyard. Although the apartnt was fully equipped and comfortable to live in, it felt like living in a luxurious birdcage, sowhat uncomfortable.
Of course, Klay knew he was being too greedy. That such good treatnt was extended to a new Soldier was enough to prove the Tribunal’s favorability toward them, which is why he wanted to make a na for himself quickly and repay the Tribunal….
“Don’t think too much, kid.”
Ben slapped Klay on the back of his head, interrupting his thoughts.
“Rember, we’re now Soldiers, military n; you’re no longer the free and casual Ranger you used to be. Do you still rember the mission we received before we set off?”
“…….. To investigate the specific situation of the village attacked by Goblins, to respond as deed appropriate, and to report the situation.”
“Correct, we’ve done what needed to be done up to this point, so we need to report back to the Tribunal and wait for the next step. That’s our duty as Soldiers.”
Ben stretched out his hand and pointed to the ruins of the fortress below.
“You see, Klay, I too have explored similar ruin fortresses a few tis, and I often see bodies inside, then I wonder who they were, where they ca from, why they were here… but I can never find the answer, because they’re already dead, with no records left to tell.”
Ben spread his hands.
“Look, we don’t want to end up the sa way, do we? We might go in there and discover sothing, or maybe not. Maybe we’ll get killed and then leave our bodies behind, and those who co after us will stand before our remains, wondering why we ca here, but we will have already died, and the dead don’t speak.”
“……………”
