The reason is simple, Duanmu Huai agreed to Prince Algard’s request because he had a condition of his own.
That is, Elf Magic must be eradicated.
If initially Duanmu Huai was uncertain about what Elf Magic was, after spending so much ti with Yuriya, Duanmu Huai was sure—what’s referred to as Magic Elves are actually a type of Subspace Creature.
To be honest, Duanmu Huai is no exception to this; there really are many similar occurrences. Not to ntion, just like the Shaman Psychics under Space Wolves in the Proto Corps, they were entangled with sothing called the Storm Wolf Soul from the Space Wolves’ ho planet, believed to be nature’s guiders and so forth.
Well, in the end, it turned out they were just a bunch of Subspace Demons.
In fact, any entities that do not live in the real world can basically be classified as Subspace Demons.
Including but not limited to Elves, Ghosts, Evil Spirits…
So strictly speaking, those Indigenous Gods are also Subspace Demons, just that they are relatively more redeemable types.
To put it bluntly, the local gang leaders still possess so strength; at least they wouldn’t just surrender hands up when foreign gangs invade.
Even though these Magic Elves don’t seem to be bad things for now, when it cos to Subspace creations, the Tribunal always opts to err on the side of caution, preferring to kill mistakenly rather than let go.
Thus, Duanmu Huai reached an agreent with Prince Algard—he could assist Prince Algard, but as a trade, Prince Algard must completely sever all ties with the heretical entity of Elf Magic.
For Prince Algard, this also entails no harm, after all, Elf Magic is what creates the vast divide between the nobles and the commoners, thus he too desires to completely eradicate the existence of Elf Magic. Hence, both parties promptly agreed and settled on the deal.
Truly interesting.
Duanmu Huai took a sip of tea and pondered. His opinion on Algard was rather nuanced, not to ntion, Algard’s competence in most matters wasn’t really strong, but at least he was indeed a Prince with resolve. Algard also shared with Duanmu Huai his plans for the next steps.
Sending these noble heirs and private armies of the nobles to their deaths was just Algard’s first step; the second naturally involved seeking like-minded allies. To this end, Algard was already prepared; he planned to comnd and promote those who showed outstanding performance in the battles at the Northern Fortress—after clearing out those noble heirs, many positions would surely beco vacant.
To put it plainly, Algard was essentially redoing what his grandfather had done.
Elevating commoners to nobility.
The difference was, back then the nobles could unite against the Royal Family, even starting a civil war. But this ti, the military strength of the nobles was almost completely eradicated, and Prince Algard would harness these newly-titled commoner soldiers and warriors to firmly control the entire army!
As long as he could reclaim the glory of taking back the Northern Fortress, from there, Prince Algard could strongly hit back at those nobles and wipe them out entirely.
And if these nobles dare to resist like their ancestors did—it would be even better!
Actually, Duanmu Huai could understand Algard’s thoughts; he was a Prince, a Prince destined to inherit the throne, and everyone expected him to beco a King.
The problem, however, was—their expectations and Algard’s were completely different.
Algard painfully and earnestly explained to Duanmu Huai what he had observed, the chasm and contradictions between nobles and commoners. Honestly, Duanmu Huai had quite an appreciation for this Prince Highness. After all, he was acutely aware that the relationship between nobles and commoners wasn’t simply a matter of good versus evil, but class struggle—conflicts between the noble class and the commoner class.
And Algard’s idea was—to completely destroy the root of the noble class, that is, their lineage and Elf Magic.
It must be said, Algard had a precise grasp on this.
Class struggle isn’t about good or bad; it’s about life and death. That’s why Algard initially didn’t have much fondness for his fiancée Yuriya. She was an Aristocratic Lady, and moreover, a perfect and powerful one. Algard knew that although he was the King, he was actually just a pawn. Because marrying him would enable Yuriya, as the Queen, to naturally and rightfully influence the country.
Of course, it would be fine if Yuriya shared similar ideals with Algard, but unfortunately, after interacting with her, Algard was very disappointed to find that Yuriya was indeed a perfect Aristocratic Lady—being a beneficiary of the current system, she never thought about overthrowing it all. Instead, Yuriya wanted to leverage her efforts to maintain the country’s current state as much as possible.
The most terrifying part was, due to Yuriya’s powerful magical strength, she really could achieve it.
