Chapter 1368: Chapter 922: Wang Yuwai Posts a Notice to Drive Away the Devil, Duanmu Huai Beats the Fox Spirit with a Stick_2
Half a year ago, Wang Yuwai’s son rose early in the morning in hopes of bringing good fortune. He went to the nearby temple to burn incense and worship the Buddha for good luck—a traditional custom before taking the high stakes examination.
Originally, this was nothing out of the ordinary, but Wang Yuwai discovered that since his son had returned that day, it was as if he beca a different person. He could no longer focus on his studies, his als were untouched, and he incessantly muttered the na “i’Er.” Initially, Wang Yuwai thought his son had fallen in love and was quite pleased. After all, yearning for love in youth is perfectly normal. He then inquired about it with his son and learned that after burning incense that day, his son had encountered a lady dressed in white at the temple. She was around eighteen years old, with a beauty comparable to a fairy, well-spoken and elegant manners. They had a brief conversation, and his son was smitten at first sight. Upon further inquiry, he found out that she was a maiden from a small town by the lake, and he intended to marry her.
Since his son had this wish, as a father, of course, he would not fail to fulfill it. In the eyes of the ancients, this lifelong event is more important than anything else.
Unlike the present day, where you dare to date before the college entrance exams? Your dad would break your legs!
So, Wang Yuwai sent soone to investigate the situation. If the girl ca from a decent family, he would offer a betrothal gift and marry her off.
However, the report ca back stating that there was no small town by the lake, and no one had ever heard of a girl nad i’Er. Perplexed, Wang Yuwai questioned his son again, only to find that his usually well-behaved son scolded his father for talking nonsense and trying to break up a loving couple. This made Wang Yuwai furious as he grew more suspicious of the woman’s identity, so he grounded his son, forbidding him from going out and ordering him to study hard for the examinations instead.
Well… it seems that parents have shared the sa sentints from ancient tis to the present.
One night, a maid saw light coming from the young master’s room, assuming he was studying by candlelight, she brought so late-night refreshnts. Approaching the door, she heard the voices of a man and a woman, which frightened her into hurrying back to report it. Upon hearing this news, Wang Yuwai was incensed. He burst into his son’s room and found his son disheveled on the bed, with a faint scent lingering in the room.
Seeing this, Wang Yuwai was enraged. He woke his son with two loud slaps and demanded to know what had happened. Smugly, the son said that since his father forbid him from leaving the house, the maiden, i’Er, had co in the middle of the night to declare her love and even offered herself to him. Now he was determined to marry no one but i’Er!
Hearing this, Wang Yuwai was even more furious and certain that the woman was up to no good—obviously, what decent woman would scale walls and sneak around in the dead of night?
So, he locked his son in the room, keeping the only key to himself and specifically assigned two husky house servants to guard the door, forbidding anyone to enter or exit.
A few days passed, and Wang Yuwai wanted to check on things. As he approached the door, he nearly died of anger.
The two burly house servants were fast asleep against the wall, and from within the room ca continuous moans and groans. Wang Yuwai, infuriated, hurriedly used the key to unlock the door, resolved to catch the dishonorable woman and see for himself what she was like!
But just as Wang Yuwai opened the door, a gust of wind blew fiercely towards him, forcing him to step back several paces. He then looked inside and saw his son lying on the bed, just as before, which drove him into a greater rage. He rushed up and grabbed him, only to find Young Master Wang pale as a ghost, laughing wildly at him.
“Dad, that i’Er is an Immortal who descended to Earth. Your locks are useless against her, you cannot keep watch over her.”
After saying this, he spouted fresh blood and promptly fell unconscious.
This sent Wang Yuwai into a frenzy. Once everything was under control, he called for the two house servants, only to find they had no recollection of falling asleep. According to them, they had been standing by the door the entire ti without noticing anything amiss.
Combining this with earlier incidents, Wang Yuwai realized that i’Er was probably not a human but a fairy or a malevolent ghost. Hence, he hurriedly invited a renowned Mage from the nearby temple to exorcise the demon.
The Mage arrived and after surveying the area, proclaid that it was the mischief of a fox spirit, first absorbing the young master’s vitality and then intending to consu his soul for cultivation.
He provided a Talisman, instructed it to be placed outside the door, but it shattered instantly. The Mage, shocked by what he saw, proclaid the Fox Spirit to be really powerful, having absorbed untold vigor. He was ready to leave, but Wang Yuwai would not let him go. Using lavish hospitality and Silver Taels, he finally convinced the Mage to risk a desperate attempt.
Well, it ended with his life gambled away.
In truth, there’s not much to tell about that day. The Mage declared he would guard Young Master Wang, confronting the Fox Spirit head-on, and no one was to enter. Wang Yuwai and others waited outside all night long, and when morning ca without any sign from the Mage, they found him inside, reduced to a skin-and-bones corpse, dead beyond doubt.
Although this cost Wang Yuwai quite a sum of Silver to settle, at least he ca to understand the cause of the events. He posted notices several tis and even went as far as to invite other famous Mages, but they either left after a quick visit or ended up dead there too…
