Chapter 1726: Chapter 1158: In the Depths of Darkness
“Very well.”
Since Xitong Lingnao had said so, Qianshu, who wasn’t the type to hesitate, quickly recounted in detail everything she had experienced the previous night to Xitong Lingnao. The latter listened intently, not only recording with a voice recorder but also occasionally asking questions.
Because of this, they spent quite a bit of ti, almost until dusk, and it seed that Xitong Lingnao, deciding she couldn’t get any more information, nodded at Qianshu.
“Thank you for your cooperation.”
“No, I’m glad I could help…”
Rubbing her growling stomach, Qianshu smiled wryly, realizing she might have to eat at the DA Headquarters canteen instead of waiting until she got ho.
Nevertheless, she found this matter quite intriguing.
“Lady Ayano, do you think that QB could be a Demon?”
“It’s very likely.”
Xitong Lingnao nodded solemnly.
“According to your account, it appeared before you and asked you to make a contract to overco your current predicant. This is very much like a Demon’s thod to tempt Humans into signing contracts.”
“Haha, now that you ntion it, Xiao Ai said the sa thing…”
Rembering how the other questioned her last night with an expressionless face, “Do you trust that creature or believe you’re Qin Shi Huang?” Qianshu couldn’t help but smile wryly.
But there were questions she couldn’t shake off.
“Isn’t it odd, though? According to QB’s claim, signing a contract to beco a Magic Girl ans hunting down Witches. If it’s a Demon, why would it want to eliminate Witches? Aren’t Witches Demons too?”
“I don’t have an answer to that either. Demons aren’t all the sa.”
“Is that so?”
“Indeed, historically, dealing with Demons has been extrely challenging and dangerous for Humans, as human weapons are typically ineffective against Demons. Even when hurt, it’s hard to kill them. However, Demons can effectively harm other Demons. Hence, there are records of Humans making contracts with Demons to command them to eradicate other Demons.”
“Such things happened?”
“Yes, so if everything you said is accurate, perhaps QB belongs to a different Demon race than the Witches. They might even be enemies to so extent, leading QB to create Demon Possessed individuals to fight and eliminate Witches.”
At this point, Xitong Lingnao paused.
“Frankly, I’m also very interested in that Miss Duanmu and the Tribunal she belongs to. Could you ask her to co here and talk with ?”
“I don’t mind, but there’s no way to contact her now. I don’t have my phone with .”
Qianshu helplessly spread her hands. Indeed, at DA Headquarters, just like in school, even Licorice wasn’t allowed to carry her phone, and Qianshu’s phone was naturally confiscated upon entry.
“Commander Nanmu?”
“I understand.”
Sighing helplessly, Commander Nanmu made a gesture, and soon his secretary ca over with Qianshu’s phone, handing it back to her.
“Oh! Thanks a lot!”
Excited to have her phone back, Qianshu quickly powered it on and glanced at the screen.
“… Ah.”
“What’s wrong?”
“I might not be able to bring Xiao Ai here now.”
Saying this, Qianshu showed the phone screen to Xitong Lingnao.
“She ssaged earlier, saying she found so clues regarding the Witches and had to go to N Prefecture… Judging by the ti, she’s probably there already…”
“… Um…?”
As Qianshu said, by the ti she got her phone, Duanmu Huai had already driven to the location ntioned in that ancient text.
“… Wow, this is sothing.”
Standing amidst the snowy mountains and forests, Duanmu Huai looked baffled.
If the phone is right, it’s still September in this world, isn’t it? Although the mountains are high, it shouldn’t be snowing. Seeing this, one might think soone had been wronged.
“Is this really the place?”
Flipping through the ancient book in her hand, Duanmu Huai felt puzzled. The abnormal climate aside, there was no sign of Subspace energy here, and it didn’t look like a Witch’s Barrier… She certainly felt like she might have co to the wrong place.
Anyway, it’s best to find so shelter first.
Duanmu Huai had set out in the morning, and after driving here and climbing the mountain, it was already late afternoon. Though with her physical fitness, she could trek through the blizzard, she wasn’t keen on suffering through it. Fortunately, she had spotted a log cabin nearby during her climb, probably a hunter’s resting spot. She figured spending the night there and continuing the investigation wouldn’t be a bad idea.
With that in mind, Duanmu Huai braved the snowstorm and headed towards the cabin.
The mountain weather changed rapidly; by the ti Duanmu Huai reached the cabin, the snowy mountain was pitch black, with only the howling wind echoing, bringing snow along.
“Hmm?”
However, upon reaching the door of the cabin, Duanmu Huai noticed signs of firelight inside.
Was there soone else coming up the mountain at this ti?
Whatever the case, she decided to enter first.
Thinking this, Duanmu Huai knocked on the door and then pushed it open to step inside.
“Sorry to disturb you.”
“Click.”
The heavy wooden door shut out the cold and snow, and stepping inside, Duanmu Huai found the cabin surprisingly clean, with the fireplace crackling with flas and wood. Moreover…
Whoa.
Seeing the scene before her, Duanmu Huai didn’t say anything but whistled ntally.
Who could bla her? Anyone who walked into a room to find a blonde woman, partially dressed, would surely be tempted to feast their eyes.
“Sorry to disturb you.”
“Oh, don’t worry about it.”
The blonde woman was unfazed by Duanmu Huai’s entry and even offered a friendly smile. Well, it helped that Duanmu Huai was using a projection; with her true form, this might’ve warranted a call to the police.
Still… it was curious.
Duanmu Huai sat on a chair inside, curiously observing the blonde woman, who was apparently changing out of her wet clothes. Surprisingly, she wasn’t wearing hiking gear, nor did she look like a hunter. Instead, from her headscarf and dark blue robe, she appeared more like a Nun…
A Nun, dressed like that, climbing a mountain?
What was going on?
Of course, strictly speaking, Duanmu Huai had no right to judge. Her own attire consisted of a robe with a long dress, much like sumr wear, while the Nun’s outfit appeared at least warm.
Although technically, it was sumr, nobody knew why it resembled the Antarctic in these mountains.
“Ah, I haven’t introduced myself.”
Duanmu Huai finally spoke.
“I’m Duanmu Ai. Hello, pleased to et you.”
“Hello, Miss Duanmu.”
The blonde woman smiled slightly upon hearing her introduction.
“I’m Sharon Heli Greyl. It’s nice to et you.”
