With everything ready, the movie quickly began filming.
Filming a science fiction movie is quite costly, as it requires a substantial amount of CGI for special effects. Even Duanmu Huai finds it sowhat overwhelming to afford this. After discussing with Director Qing Shui, they ultimately decided to shoot parts without special effects on location.
In fact, with technological developnt today, CGI in movies is practically limitless. With enough money, you could create the effect of a group of actors traveling to Arizona in a modestly equipped film studio. However, shooting at the actual location costs significantly less than producing effects.
The entire movie is broadly divided into three scenes.
One is post-catastrophe Kyoto, where the protagonists pass through the streets and ancient capital of Kyoto while gathering supplies and fighting mutated creatures and zombies.
Then there is the survivor camp, and finally, the villain’s biochemical research institute.
The latter two are easier to find, as aging and the previous economic bubble have left Japan full of deserted villages and abandoned bankrupt factories. The filming crew quickly made contact with the local governnt and chose an abandoned site as the shooting location. It used to be a research base built by a pharmaceutical company, but this unfortunate company went bankrupt during the bubble economy era, leading to its abandonnt.
For the local governnt, the film crew shooting here is naturally a good thing. If the movie becos globally popular, it would undoubtedly draw a wave of traffic and tourists, so they are highly supportive and welcoming. Therefore, the crew quickly obtained filming permits, and the governnt even offered to block off the city area to facilitate the crew’s filming.
This way, so budget can be saved.
The upcoming special effects budget mainly focuses on... stunt performances.
For example, movies like Marvel or Superman where actors generally do not perform stunts, know martial arts, or leap several ters to grab a helicopter—all of these are special effects. For Duanmu Huai, he naturally saves money on this front when possible.
In short, instead of special effects, he personally gets it done.

"Xiao Ai, are you serious?"
Standing in the factory, Arima Kana widened her eyes in astonishnt at the scene before her, incredulously. The upcoming scene is when the protagonist and heroine encounter their first danger and are surrounded by monsters. Just when they despair and await death, Duanmu Huai, playing the killer, breaks through the wall and leaps down from above, rcilessly slaughtering those monsters, allowing the male and female leads to escape.
This scene could have been handled with CGI, but Duanmu Huai insists there is no need to spend money on effects, he can do it himself, and it’s more realistic!
It’s authentic! I’m in this line of work, and I won’t fake it for you!
But...
"This factory should be fine, I checked it."
Wearing armor, Duanmu Huai reaches out to knock on the nearby wall.
"This isn’t a load-bearing wall, breaking it is fine."
"But are you really going to jump from five ters high?"
"It’s not like I haven’t jumped before. Don’t worry, I know kung fu, plus I’m wearing heavy armor, it won’t hurt ."

By the way, in the movie, this scene has the protagonists surrounded by a group of twisted mutated monsters. But in reality, it’s just a group of special effects actors wearing sensor-filled bodysuits, twisting towards them like zombies—yes, blockbuster scenes are indeed not to be witnessed live, or it’d be hilarious.
The reason for having Duanmu Huai make an entrance from above is to show the oppressive presence and aura of a hidden BOSS descending from on high.
Actually, when initially designing Duanmu Huai, he wanted to fully follow the Astarte’s specifications, but his body was indeed short and stubby, so he had to opt for the Combat Nuns’ armor instead. Since he couldn’t intimidate with a height of two ters and five, he had to rely on the scene’s height.
"Alright, scene 157, action!"
Upon Director Qing Shui’s command, filming comnced.
anwhile, the crew and actors on scene held their breaths, focusing on this scene. Many of them were working with Duanmu Huai for the first ti, so the director had them stay mainly to... adapt to Duanmu Huai’s aura and pressure.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t know how many takes would be NG during shooting.
Arima Kana and Hei Chuan Chi Yin also focused on the wall, clenching their hands. Although they believed in Duanmu Huai’s strength, they were... still sowhat worried.
Then... Duanmu Huai made his entrance.
"Boom!!"
In the next instant, under everyone’s gaze, that solid concrete wall exploded as if hit by a bomb, and then, holding a War Hamr and shield, a black-armored figure strode out!
Just seeing this scene made the whole filming site fall silent. Everyone was intimidated by the figure erging from the smoke, staring fixedly at it. It was as if at this mont, they were not shooting a movie, but indeed living in a terrifying post-disaster world.
