Chapter 338: Chapter 265: Airport Thrills_2

After the investigation was concluded, Claire went to work, while Leon, due to his unique status, was sent for special training. It was only after a long ti that they were able to get in touch.

When Claire got a ssage from Leon, she had hoped to use his help to find Duanmu Huai. To her surprise, Leon said he’d heard of the man and that he might have sothing to do with the mission he had been on. In fact, Leon was looking for him too.

Despite Claire’s belief that they weren’t seeking the sa person, one could not overlook the glaringly obvious characteristics – tall stature, bald, and stern-looking…

Because of confidentiality, Leon did not present Claire with too many details. He rely hinted that the man could potentially be working for a mysterious organization, not entirely understanding the specifics himself.

Actually, Claire herself was unsure why she wished to find Duanmu Huai. She had already expressed her gratitude to him when they departed. Yet, she had this gnawing feeling of unease, as if right now, if it weren’t for the responsibility she had to look after the child, she would have sought him out.

After all, the distinctive features of Duanmu Huai are too blatant for anyone to overlook.

...

At the sa ti, Duanmu Huai was standing on the upper deck of the airport, overlooking the protesting crowd below.

He was waiting for the appearance of the senator. The mont that portly man with the big ears showed up, Duanmu Huai would execute justice by tearing him in half before everyone’s eyes. Then he could move on to Trichain Pharmaceuticals to destroy the stored viruses and data, proclaiming the Tribunal’s issued punishnt to all.

…… Hmm?

However, just then, Duanmu Huai spotted a commotion below. Many people rolled and crawled out of the airport terminal, screaming as they fled.

What’s going on?

Seeing this, Duanmu Huai furrowed his brow. He recalled that according to the ga there should have been no issues at this ti. The mission was supposed to end with the killing of Senator Davis and proceeding into Trichain Pharmaceuticals under a hail of bullets to reduce it to a flat ground… What was this disruption?

However, before Duanmu Huai could even comprehend the situation, a loud boom echoed from behind him, followed by tremors that shook the entire airport hall. Concurrently, a system notice appeared before his eyes.

[Criteria t, activating reward mission——Airport of Fear]

[Mission Target: Exterminate infection source to the best of your ability, investigate situation]

Infection source?

I have a terrible premonition…

Duanmu Huai walked downstairs to the main airport hall, which now lay in total disarray, with the visible wreckage of a crashed plane not far away. Clearly, the plane lost control, crashing into the waiting room and causing this disaster.

But more importantly, staggering around the airport hall, moaning—were zombies.

“Alright, I almost guess what’s going on.”

Duanmu Huai muttered sarcastically to himself, feeling pretty confident that this plane had been infected, turning everyone on board into zombies. The plane lost control and crashed into the airport building, eventually culminating in this accidental disaster.

The only question is, where did the infection on the plane co from?

That’s the part I, as a Judge, need to investigate.

But first….. it’s best to take care of these damned zombies.

With that thought, Duanmu Huai clenched his fists, let out a roar, and charged into the horde of the dead!

At the sa ti as Duanmu Huai breached the zombie horde, Claire and a few survivors took refuge in a VIP lounge at the end of the airport. They locked the door and sat inside, gasping for breath.

“Damn it…Why, this can’t be…”

Recalling the horrifying creatures she had just seen, Claire turned ashen. Her buried nightmare seed to be stirring once again. Is this city going to beco a City of the Dead, just like the place where her brother used to work?

No!

Claire shook her head, endeavoring to leave her anxiety behind. This place was different; at least for now, it seed that only the airport had been attacked. The airport was far from the city, aning that as long as it was sealed off in ti, the zombie spread could be controlled.

With this in mind, Claire hurried to the window and looked out. Soon, she saw military vehicles driving in, forming a tight lockdown around the entire airport. Seeing this, Claire exhaled a sigh of relief. At least for now, things should be okay. At least… the entire city would not get overrun.

Although Claire wished she could fight, unfortunately, she was unard and weaponless. Apart from hiding here, Claire couldn’t do anything. She did consider calling the police but… whether or not help was coming, Claire wasn’t sure.

“Thump… thump… thump…”

Suddenly, Claire, with her sharp senses, caught the heavy footstep sounds coming from afar. These footsteps seed oddly familiar, or rather… she had heard these footsteps before!

Thinking of this, Claire quickly put her ear against the door, carefully listening to the sounds from outside. At this mont, almost everyone had either left the airport or had been killed by the zombies, leaving the entire airport eerily silent except for the occasional repugnant groans of the zombies.

However, along with that, there was a heavy, rhythmic footstep sound that kept echoing.

“Thump… thump… thump…”

Could it be…

In that mont, Claire imdiately recalled the terrifying figure she encountered under the night sky, a horrifying creature clad in a black coat. According to Leon, it was the Tyrant, a biological weapon developed by Umbrella. Could it be, that horrifying creature was here too?!

How could this be? Umbrella was already shut down! Wait, could it be that plane?

With this thought, Claire felt her hairs standing on end. She had always questioned why the plane crashed so suddenly. Could it be that the Tyrant infiltrated the plane, causing everything?

“What’s wrong, Claire?”

The girl nad Renny asked curiously seeing Claire’s disturbed expression. Claire quickly covered Renny’s mouth and shook her head.

“Don’t speak, stay quiet!”

Although they didn’t understand why Claire was so nervous, the others in the lounge also kept their mouths shut, afraid of making a sound. Soon, they also heard the heavy footsteps—obviously, the person… or thing… was getting closer.

“What… what is that…”

The senator on the couch was sweating profusely. A flight attendant nearby was also going pale. Clearly, any sane person could infer that during this zombie rampage, the thing taking a leisurely stroll outside the door was unlikely to be a simple human.

Or to put it another way, it might not even be human.

“Thump… thump… thump…”

In the silence, when nobody dared to make a sound, the footstep noise stopped just outside the door. At this mont, Claire’s heart was in her throat, she stared at the door intensely, not daring to move. The little girl in her arms was rigid with fear. It wasn’t just them; the other two survivors had also frozen in fear, as if there were a man-eating tiger outside, ready to barge in and devour them.

Silence…

It could have been a mont or eternity, but to Claire, it was unbearably long.

Just as she was about to gasp for breath, suddenly——

“Boom!!”

The locked door was abruptly punctured, a colossal, black hand reaching in from the outside!
