Upon hearing this news, Philray was stunned for a mont, then nodded in acknowledgnt. She then stood up and via ntal transmission had the construct follow her out the door, and saw the Magical Floating Disc bearing the First Clan Badge hovering at the gate. This was her first attendance at the Congress, and Philray was sowhat nervous, but seeing the black construct beside her, she was once again filled with confidence.
This was a gift bestowed upon her by the Spider Queen. With the Spider Queen on her side, she had nothing to worry about!
Riding the Magical Floating Disc, Philray arrived at the First Family’s Temple. She entered the main gate and quickly noticed that sothing was not quite right. The atmosphere inside the temple was heavy, and the Lady Matriarchs seated on the altar chairs looked at her with strange eyes. Their expressions were solemn and full of doubt, which was not how Drow society should treat a success.
One should know, Philray had thwarted the Second Clan’s attack and even taken advantage of the situation to kill her own mother, thereby taking control of the entire family. Such cunning and intrigue were worthy of praise throughout the city, and she should be greeted with smiles and applause, not this almost criminal scrutiny.
But Philray didn’t care. She stepped onto the altar, planning to sit in the Matriarch’s seat of the Second Clan. However, at this mont, Anguste stopped her.
“Please wait a mont, Philray.”
“…What is your command, Mother Anguste?”
Although Philray was quite dissatisfied with Anguste stopping her, the latter had ruled the city for a millennium after all, and Philray, still a young Drow Elf, had to suppress her inner anger and stared at the sowhat gaunt old elf before her.
“I believe as the Matriarch of the Second Clan, I have the right to sit in that position.”

Anguste nodded but continued to scrutinize Philray carefully, or rather — the construct behind her.
“But, I have one question, after ending all of this, have you thanked the Spider God, have you made your offering to Her?”
“Of course, Mother Anguste!”
At this mont, Philray was already sowhat angry; Anguste was treating her like a child!
“I have certainly praised the Spider Queen! I am not one of those who do not understand the rules!”
“But the Empress does not see it that way.”
However, Anguste’s reply hit Philray like a thunderbolt.
“How can that be? I……”
Philray looked at the other matriarchs in astonishnt, who also watched her with the sa icy and suspicious eyes as Anguste.
“I don’t understand what you an, Mother Anguste, the Empress has accepted , I can feel Her……”
“Blasphemy!!”
Yet, before Philray could finish her sentence, she was angrily interrupted by Mother Anguste, whose roar even made Philray’s ears buzz.
“Philray! You relied on a heretic’s strength to eliminate the family trusted and favored by the Empress; this is an indisputable fact! Do you think the Spider God cannot see through your plots? You traitor!”
“Conspiracy? Heretic? Traitor?”
Philray’s eyes widened in astonishnt, staring at Anguste.
“How can you accuse with such baseless claims! I am a faithful follower of the Empress! I have done nothing to desecrate the Spider Queen! I have felt the Empress’s praise and joy for , and this is beyond doubt!”
“You could not have received the will of the Empress!”
Anguste raised her hand, cutting off Philray’s response.
“The mont you dared to kill your own mother, Lady Sinafi, you had already betrayed the will of the Empress!”
“How can this be!”
Philray grew even more furious; almost every matriarch had ascended to power in this way, what she had done was no different from what other matriarchs did before becoming matriarchs. Not to ntion, the mont she plunged the dagger into her mother’s heart making the sacrifice, Philray distinctly felt the joy and pleasure of the Spider Queen, there was no faking that!
