“Who are you?”
Alia stared at the man and asked, to which he replied with a respectful bow.
“Greetings, Sacred Knight of Tyler, I am Danilo Sain, a Harper.”
“Huh?”
Alia was startled by the man’s words.
“You are Danilo Sain? Nephew of Master Kelben?”
“Indeed.”
Danilo nodded to Alia.
“Since you know who I am, I assu you didn’t just happen to co here…”
“I will not answer your question, especially under the circumstances of your harboring Drow Elves.”
Alia gripped her longsword tighter; she was not the type of Sacred Knight to stick blindly to rules. And even if he really was Danilo Sain, why would he protect Drow Elves? Could he have been controlled by them, manipulated, brainwashed, or perhaps he had fallen so low as to beco a lackey for the Drow Elves?
If it was the latter, then it was Alia’s duty as a Sacred Knight of Tyler to root out and eradicate the evil.
After all… when Master Kelben had given her the mission, he had not specified that it had to be done with a living person.
Bringing back a head should suffice.
“They are indeed Drow Elves, but they are not the evil kind.”
“???”
Hearing Danilo’s response, everyone was more puzzled, and at that mont, one of the Drow Elves stepped forward.
“We are not Drow who worship the Spider Evil God. We revere the Girl of Darkness, Elythne, so we aren’t your enemies.”
“But your actions just now didn’t seem to suggest that.”
Alia, of course, would not be so naive as to let down her guard based on a few words, especially since the attack from these Drow Elves had been quite dangerous.
“We thought you were adversaries of Mr. Danilo Sain, so we tried to restrain you.”
“I don’t understand what you an.”
“Let explain.”
At this, Danilo quickly began to speak, clarifying the whole situation to Alia.
It turned out that the Drow Elves had spotted Alia and the others days ago, thinking it was a coincidence and rely keeping an eye on them from the shadows. However, they soon realized that Alia and her group were clearly heading for Danilo, following them wherever they went.
As previously ntioned, as one of Deepwater City’s Masked Lords and the nephew of Kelben’s Black Wand, Danilo himself carried a certain political value. Thus, suspecting that the newcors might be there to assassinate him, they had carefully crafted this trap to lure Alia and her party in.
The reason Danilo later intervened was that he saw the Holy Light radiating from Alia—a formidable power that only God-favored Knights possessed. Besides, being a follower of Tyler, Danilo was not a grievous sinner and it was clear that Alia’s presence was not for his assassination, which prompted his appearance to stop the conflict.
“But you still haven’t explained why you are with a group of Drow Elves.”
Despite what Danilo had said, Alia remained on guard.
“It’s a long story… but let explain.”
Danilo gave a wry smile and began to explain to Alia.
Initially, their entry into the Dark Region was purely for adventure, but they were soon attacked by a group of Drow Elves, and Danilo’s Adventure Squad was almost annihilated, with only a few survivors captured and taken to the Drow Elf City.
At that point, Danilo thought he was dood, but en route, they were ambushed by another group of Drow Elves who rescued Danilo and two other adventurers. It was then that Danilo discovered that these Drow Elves were followers of the Girl of Darkness, Elythne—a Deity of the Drow Elves that protected the benevolent Drow who resisted the Spider Queen.
Thereafter, Danilo joined forces with them. He initially wanted to return to the surface imdiately, but after learning about the civil strife among the Drow Elves, he decided to stay and investigate the matter with them. As a Harper, Danilo had the innate feeling that sothing was off about the whole affair.
That’s why they had co to this ruined Drow Elf City, to see if they could find any useful clues, and that’s when they encountered Alia and the others…
“I understand now.”
Alia lowered her longsword. She had already used “Detect Lie” on Danilo Sain, and since there was no sign of deception, it ant that everything Danilo had said was the truth.
“Then we need not keep secrets either. In fact, we were sent by Master Kelben to find you in the Dark Region. He also entrusted with a Compass…”
“I see.”
Seeing the Compass in Alia’s hands, Danilo looked exasperated.
“No wonder I could be found no matter where I went…”
Muttering to himself, Danilo sighed and then looked up seriously at Alia.
