Both Xiaosuisui and Xie Pan’Er recognized the voice imdiately, lifting their eyes towards the door as their hearts simultaneously missed a beat.
It was the Yun Family’s Third Mada, the one who had previously accused Xiaosuisui of picking her flowers.
"Eh... Isn’t this a rabbit I’m looking at? Don’t all rabbits eat grass? Since when do rabbits eat dried fish?"
Xie Pan’Er was taken aback. Xiaosuisui glanced at Xiaobai, then at Xie Pan’Er, and asked sheepishly, "Pretty Sister, don’t rabbits eat dried fish?"
Heavens, just let a lightning bolt strike dead...
She had simply slled the fragrant dried fish drying in the Yun Family’s courtyard. Thinking it slled wonderful, she had grabbed a handful and called out to the rabbit, "Xiaobai, are you hungry? Want so dried fish?"
And then...
"Dried fish is for cats. Xiaobai is... a rabbit!" Xie Pan’Er explained with great difficulty.
Xiaosuisui blinked, speechless for a long mont.
"Is this rabbit your pet? It’s so adorable, and it even eats dried fish!"
"Xiaobai is my Young Miss’s pet... our family’s Young Miss. Its na is Xiaobai."
Upon hearing Xie Pan’Er’s words, Third Mada Yun raised her head to observe Xie Pan’Er more closely. This girl appeared to be fourteen or fifteen years old and carried herself like a young lady from a wealthy family, yet she was rely this little girl’s servant. If this child truly is a descendant of the Yun Family’s Grandaunt, then the Grandaunt’s standing in the outside world must be quite formidable!
At this thought, Third Mada Yun grew distracted. Even the rabbit eating dried fish, which had seed so novel just monts before, no longer held any interest for her.
"The rabbit is quite cute. May I ask where you guests are from? And this rabbit, have you raised it since it was little?"
Third Mada Yun’s questions were quite artful. While they sounded casual, she was actually trying to probe into Xiaosuisui’s and her companion’s backgrounds.
Xiaosuisui didn’t understand the subtlety of her questioning, but Xie Pan’Er, having lived for a long ti under Xie Yingying’s oppressive influence, imdiately grasped what Third Mada Yun was after.
"We are from the Central Plains, and Xiaobai..." Just as Xiaosuisui was about to speak, Xie Pan’Er cut her off, vaguely stating their origins. She then left it to Xiaosuisui to explain Xiaobai’s history, which she herself didn’t know.
"Xiaobai was a gift from my Seventh Uncle when he returned to Ling Village half a year ago!"
Hearing this, the smile on Third Mada Yun’s face vanished. Displeased that she hadn’t found out their identities, she placed the fish atballs she had brought on the table and said with a smile, "You’re from the Central Plains, so you’ve probably never tried our island’s specialty, milky fish balls. I just made them and brought them specially for you to taste!"
With that, she picked out two and placed them in an empty bowl, handing it directly to Xiaosuisui.
Xiaosuisui blinked and smacked her lips, her mouth watering. She reached out to take the bowl.
"I’ll take that! Thank you, Third Mada!" Xie Pan’Er, reacting quickly, intercepted the bowl and chopsticks Third Mada Yun was handing over. She then promptly put one fish ball into her mouth.
"My Young Miss is young and has a delicate stomach. We don’t dare let her rashly eat unfamiliar food. I will taste these fish balls for her first!"
At this, Third Mada Yun’s face darkened.
She wanted to flare up but maintained her composure, yet not doing so made her cheeks burn as if she’d been slapped.
"Miss Xie, you really are a model servant!"
She spoke through gritted teeth, her words laced with suppressed fury.
"My Pretty Sister is not a servant! She’s my sister, and she’s a person of great fortune!"
Xiaosuisui had grown fond of Xie Pan’Er after spending so much ti together, so she beca angry hearing soone belittle and insult her.
"Oh, you little girl, quite protective, aren’t you? She calls you ’Young Miss’ constantly. Doesn’t that an she’s your servant? If she weren’t your servant, why would she call you that?"
Third Mada Yun sneered. In her eyes, Xiaosuisui was just a child. Mocking her a little to vent her own frustration would be getting off lightly.
However, what she didn’t realize was that she had jumped the gun.
Her ridicule didn’t harm Xiaosuisui or Xie Pan’Er in the slightest; instead, it provoked a sharp retort from Xiaosuisui’s little mouth.
"My Pretty Sister likes to call that, so she calls that! What business is it of yours?"
Third Mada Yun was so furious she exploded, pointing at Xiaosuisui’s nose, too angry to speak coherently.
"You child, how can you be so unappreciative? Do you have any manners at all?"
"Whether I have manners or not is none of your damned business! If you don’t like it, you can call ’Young Miss’ too and be my servant! You’re so foul-mouthed, watch out or your mouth will rot!"
Xiaosuisui was furious. With hands on her hips, she pointed at Third Mada Yun’s nose and started scolding her.
"You... you... you child, you truly have no upbringing! I kindly brought you food, trying to be a good hostess, but you’re so ungrateful! You even humiliate like this for a re servant. Fine! Just fine!"
Fuming, Third Mada Yun finished her tirade, still pointing at Xiaosuisui’s nose, then huffed coldly.
"Hmph! Living in my family’s place and you dare insult like this! It seems you don’t want to stay on Yunzhou Island any longer!" With that, she twisted her waist, flicked her handkerchief, and stord off.
"This..." Xie Pan’Er stared, dumbfounded, at Third Mada Yun’s retreating figure. It took her a long mont to react before she blurted out anxiously, "We’re dood! Don’t you think Third Mada Yun will be angry enough to kick us out?"
Hearing Xie Pan’Er’s words, Xiaosuisui nodded gravely and said, "Exactly. My mind-reading ability tells that right now, she’s thinking, ’How dare these two blind fools insult ! Just you wait, I’m going to my father-in-law to lodge a fierce complaint against you and have him order you thrown out!’"
When Xiaosuisui finished relaying Third Mada Yun’s thoughts, the expression on Xie Pan’Er’s face was quite priceless.
"Then... what should we do? Will Island Master Yun really kick us out?" Xie Pan’Er murmured worriedly.
Hearing Xie Pan’Er’s worried murmurs, Xiaosuisui also beca scared. "Ah... then... Pretty Sister, did I cause trouble? If Island Master Yun really kicks us out, does that an we won’t be able to find Wangwu Mountain?"
"Princess, please don’t worry yet," Xie Pan’Er reassured her. "Since Yunzhou Island has so connection with the Third Young Master’s Bright Moon Pavilion, the Seventh Young Master will surely be able to resolve this. Besides, what happened just now was entirely Third Mada Yun’s fault. You don’t need to bla yourself!"
