This news was indeed a bolt from the blue.
Rumor had it that the National Master had recently calculated that the Great Han’s national destiny was greatly tied to a child born under a heavenly on.
The National Master was now heading south, intending to take this child as his disciple.
County Magistrate Wu had known all along that the child born under a heavenly on four years ago lived in Upper Ling Village, Baiyun Town, Xun’an County.
He had barely enjoyed a few days of relief after learning this news when a tragic incident occurred in the area under his jurisdiction: a mass disappearance of children overnight.
As if that wasn’t enough.
Damn it, he fud internally. And now soone was telling him that the Blessed Bag, the child of great fortune, was among them?
County Magistrate Wu couldn’t even recall how he had managed to persuade the commoners to go back.
He collapsed into a chair in the rear courtyard of the County Yan and had his advisor summoned for questioning.
"Is there any news from Head Constable Lin and his team? What about the Lord God Hunter? Hasn’t he solved many significant cases before? Why can’t he solve this one?"
The advisor looked utterly helpless. He too was anxious, for he knew that among the missing children was his older paternal cousin’s daughter.
"My Lord, there’s still no word from Head Constable Lin, let alone the Lord God Hunter. I had soone inquire just now. The Lord God Hunter had Head Constable Lin take a few n and prepare rations; it seems they’ve set out on a long journey to track them. As for whether those children are alive or dead, this subordinate truly doesn’t know!"
Upon hearing his advisor’s words, County Magistrate Wu, who was already slumped, sagged even further.
He felt as if his heart could no longer beat.
"Find them! Quickly, send more people out to search! If the Blessed Bag is lost, our Great Han will face a catastrophe!" County Magistrate Wu instructed his advisor in a weak, breathless voice. The advisor quickly assented and departed.
"Why haven’t you left? You’ve co back in..."
County Magistrate Wu choked on his remaining words.
The person who walked in wasn’t his advisor but a remarkably handso young man with a full head of silver hair.
Beside this silver-haired man stood another handso young man, appearing to be in his early twenties.
"Who... who are you? How did you get in?"
Seeing these two, County Magistrate Wu felt an invisible, imnse pressure emanating from them.
"You may not recognize , but you should recognize this silver hair," the silver-haired man’s voice was indifferent as he casually sat down in front of County Magistrate Wu. "Let ask you: does Xun’an County truly have a child born under a heavenly on?"
Hearing his words and seeing the silver hair, County Magistrate Wu was so terrified he shivered and imdiately dropped to his knees.
"This subordinate g-greets... greets... the National Master!"
County Magistrate Wu kowtowed forcefully, his head hitting the ground, his body trembling uncontrollably.
The young man accompanying the National Master sat directly opposite him, tapping the table with his folding fan, his expression calm yet inherently imposing.
"The National Master is questioning you. Why do you not answer?"
His voice was soft, yet it was laden with imnse pressure.
"I... I... This subordinate... This subordinate... Y-Yes... there is... a child born on the day of the heavenly on," he stamred, his words jumbled and incoherent.
"Speak properly. The National Master isn’t going to eat you!"
"Yes!"
"Let ask you, what is that child’s full na? And where does her family reside?"
County Magistrate Wu knelt on the ground, shaking like a sieve.
Good heavens, he thought, why does the aura of this young man accompanying the National Master feel even more oppressive than that of the National Master himself?
"R-Replying... to Your Excellency... th-that child... is nad... Li Yanyan. Sh-She is... the granddaughter of Old Li’s family from Upper Ling Village, Baiyun Town!"
"Do you have her exact ti of birth?" the National Master asked calmly.
County Magistrate Wu shook his head. "No. We only know she was born on the day of the heavenly on, approximately on the second day of the second lunar month, four years ago. That day was the Longtaitou Festival. It’s said that on that day, the celestial phenonon was unusual..."
"Enough!" the National Master interrupted him.
Who could understand the celestial phenonon better than I? he thought. I have no desire to listen to such a long, convoluted tale.
"On that day, were any other children born in Xun’an County?"
