Now reading: Chapter 537: The Expedition Team Is Finalized from A Dragon Idol's Reincarnation Tale, a Fantasy novel by AbyssRaven.

Lesser, normal, and greater elentals, with the elental kings and emperors being rarities. Of the latter two, kings were simply stronger versions of greater elentals, aning that it wouldn’t be crazy to expect to et one if you wandered into a mana-drenched area like this. Emperors, on the other hand, were demigods or beings close to apotheosis, as was the case with the elental emperors who ruled Peolynca as their “deities” before the Origin Gods.

Though, as said, they were rarities. The fact our party even t a living elental emperor was already crazy enough since the common sense was that they were dead. The fact Crustacia let the earth one survive as a dilapidated version of themself, unlike Aurena who had her rival Primarch of Light slain by her followers, was already weird enough if I hadn’t learned that the Origin Gods never really intended to kill the elental emperors after stripping them of their divinity and faith. However, that didn’t stop Andira from turning the Light Elental Emperor into a ball.

Thankfully, we didn’t need to deal with the latter two problems here, as the more common forr three were trying to beat up Rhekk. Small, barely noticeable lesser elentals were dancing in the air like flying blue lights, cheering on their larger brethren like cheerleaders.

anwhile, the human-sized normal elentals—or just elentals—were holding up their weapons like a battalion of knights, archers, and mages, holding their fire as they awaited the greater elentals’ actions. Clad in ice armor that hid what was underneath it, the soldier elentals seed rather disciplined as they remained in formation, showing little of that whimsicalness of a fae.

That formation … The spearn are definitely using the posture of a dragoon, I concluded, well aware of the fighting style due to my training in it.

The greater elentals, on the other hand, had all assud the forms of armored monsters of various sizes and species, ranging from giant birds to bulldozing mammoths. Still, none of the monster forms they took on were from outside of Frozen Nest, suggesting all these elentals were taking inspiration from the denizens of Frozen Nest, including us dragonkin, as a few elentals had taken on the forms of wyverns, dragons, and drakes.

Right now, Rhekk was being pressured by a combination of mammoths cornering him onto the azure marine ice walls, frozen over the blue, grainy sand natural for the glaciers, while wyverns and giant eagles were blasting him with ice breaths. Dragons, giant antler reindeer, and gorillas surrounded their prey, eyeing the struggling Rhekk with animosity.

These things were going for the kill!

What the hell happened?

With a thunderclap, Vifi suddenly appeared above the elentals, drawing their attention with a loud jump scare that caused them to jerk back. Materializing a lightning hamr with her manatech arm, red lightning appeared around her feet before they vanished from sight again before she slamd the hamr onto the ground, summoning a massive lightning on the spot.

The ensuing explosion blew the lesser and normal away as if they were petals blown away by the wind, while the greaters growled in anger as portions of their icicle bodies shattered. They were forced to retreat, but their injuries quickly regenerated, regrowing back in seconds as if Vifi’s attack ant nothing. With [Mana Eyes] on, I could see the elentals were draining the mana in the air and ground like a vacuum cleaner sucking in sand inside a desert—these things had an endless supply of healing, making it extrely difficult to kill any of the greaters without one single big attack.

Just like Tasianna. Speaking of which …

“Back off!” her voice echoed throughout the cave as a giant pillar of ice appeared from the ground, scaring even the ice elental to flee. Seeing as her arms were starting to turn to ice from casting that spell, the spell was creating true ice. Tasianna managed to learn a second true ice spell from Mom!

Confirming my conclusion, the pillar of ice started to form into a glistening, diamond-like flower, blooming its reflective petals as it began to send out snow-like petals. [“Please be mindful to not breathe it in,”] Tasianna sent that telepathic ssage to everybody, including Rhekk.

Pollen? … Oh, uuuuh, I don’t think anybody would want to have Farron’s crystallized lungs in their life so better avoid that. I concluded, able to imagine what true ice pollen could do to a person’s body. Mom’s various true ice sculptors she created on Altrust to vent her frustrations or show off were enough of a warning.

I was happy to see that Tasianna managed to learn [Everlasting Bloom Flower] during our training ti with Kahalaet. The way she talked about how she only managed to master [Fimbulvetr Wall] and how the true ice was still rejecting her body, freezing her arms into popsicles and forcing her to regrow them every ti, made feel relieved in her stead. It was not perfect, per se, but seeing how Tasianna’s mouth was twitching into a smile as the custom spell didn’t fizzle out during combat must be quite gratifying for her.

Still, just like Vifi’s attack, this spell was only used to scare away the foe, to force them to back away from Rhekk. Honestly, I was a bit surprised to see the elentals run away from an ice attack of all things, making believe that true ice was far more different than regular ice mana and attacks. I wasn’t so sure if I should be even more impressed about Mom’s arsenal than I already was.

With the elentals pushed away, they started to mumble and growl as they stared at the ice flower. Their voices were a mix of weird sounds created from their monstrous bodies and a cacophony of shattering, cracking, and clinking ice and mirrors, almost making it sound like we were having a sci-fi laser gun battle right in front of us. The echoes they created felt like the world was ready to burst right open, ringing so loudly in my head that I couldn’t make sense of what the elentals were saying.

Or maybe it was more accurate to say that I never could have understood them and that these sounds of moving ice plates were simply their way of communicating with others. Regardless of the truth, our fae translator would know, and it was better to deal with this situation with this option.

The wyverns crash-landed on the ground and roared, silencing the icicle sounds as their ice armor appeared on their entire body within this ti. Icy mist filled the air as they sneered at the enemies, exuding their auras to create sothing like a shield for to co forward all alone, as Nong had slightly retreated into the tunnel we ca from. He had decided to watch us handle this.

“H—Princess Hestia?” Rhekk called, looking disheveled as if he had been fighting for a while. “My father sent you here to he—”

“Now is not the ti!” I silenced him before turning to the elentals, hearing their sounds again. I turned to Tasianna. [“What are they saying?”]

“‘lloxtressa? She’s here?’ when they saw my spell, until you appeared, causing them to change from being flabbergasted to being hostile, my lady. They’re talking about you and the fact you’re a fire dragon,” she answered, squinting her eyes when the discordant beca louder. “They are cursing you … for being fire-aligned. A—Tsk! Hold your tongue!”

Tasianna’s face turned red as her eyes sent daggers at the elentals. Her fury-filled voice was drowned out by the grating ice sounds, escalating her mood to the point her catalyst started to glow blue. Five magic circles appeared around her body while another five appeared on the ground next to the elentals. In rapid sequence, she shot out wind projectiles while summoning five [Slithering Frost Serpent]s to entangle the elentals.

“If you won’t hold your damn tongue, then let rip out your vocal cords!” Tasianna shouted over the damn sounds the elentals kept making. “Shayatierus! Bethlieranha! They insulted our lady! Damning her to death!”

W-what?

“Graaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!” The twins roared as they cast [Wind Blast], blasting themselves forward like jet rockets to slam their ice-armored wings onto two of the dragon-like elentals, cleaving right through their legs to cause it to crash on the ground, leaving it defenseless to Tasianna hail of spells and small party of spell golems.

[“T-Tasianna, the aggression is over! What are you doing?”] I tried to call her out to stop, but her fierce look told she wasn’t willing to listen to .

[“It is better if you do not hear what they said, my lady. In any case, any chance to solve this amicably died the mont they saw you, sadly. They stated their detest for a fire-aligned being like you,”] she said, confusing at this weird sequence of events. Yet, she didn’t elaborate on it and kept fighting, pushing the elentals back even further.,

However, this offensive march didn’t last long as the elentals finally grew so backbone and attacked back. The battalion of normal elentals attacked the wyverns, leaving the greaters to attack Tasianna’s golems. The lesser, on the other hand, were casting spells in an attempt to stop Tasianna’s barrage of spells, but it was all futile by her far higher intelligence.

When the first greater elental finally broke through the offensive formation, they charged at us, only for multiple crossbow bolts to pierce right into its legs, causing it to break under its weight.

[“Rember what happened when we first ca here to scout, General!”] Vifi intruded. [“Those damn lesser elentals were dancing around as that ape tried to kill us! Like a bunch of giggling children laughing as their older sibling beats up sobody twice their size. They summoned that damn miniature blizzard on us, taunted us when we couldn’t understand them, and they were doing that all out of glee. Mischievous fae or not, they have sothing against invaders, and now they have sothing against you, or they developed one when we managed to flee. Stop thinking of these as faefolk; they are enemies, right now, General, and we better drive them off!”]

Vifi paused as she reloaded her crossbow, readying to shoot again when she saw another elental charge. [“Your maid made the correct choice, so help us out! Music up, keep the fire down so you don’t lt the tunnel with your new core! General, your turn.”]

You keep calling general but you’re the one giving orders here, mate. Haaa, what the hell is this?

[Music Resonation (Moderate)] [Various Spell Buffs] inflicted on [Young Sunfang Dragon, Hestia Atsuko Kargryxmor]

To be honest, I wasn’t as motivated as the rest in solving this situation, even if I understood Vifi’s logic. Yet, I was this party leader and not giving it my all when everybody else was would be a disservice to others. Once the music was on, I started blasting holy and wind spells to support my friends as they went wild, letting Tasianna and the twins be the stars of this fight to allow them to vent.

Killing was quite difficult though with such an arrangent, as aside from a continuous barrage of strong attacks or sothing that could annihilate a being within a single mont, slaying a greater elental was not possible. Our ice mages could cripple the elentals, but since Vifi and I understood they needed so catharsis, we just let them beat the elentals up as if they were punching bags, keeping them safe until the elentals chose to flee in droves.

[“Stop!”] I commanded when I noticed Tasianna was ready to chase after them. [“Our objective is Rhekk, Tasianna. Let’s focus on him first now that the threat is gone. Okay?”]

Breathing loudly and rapidly, she turned around and nodded, not giving a verbal answer as she turned back to where the elentals escaped from. Beth then landed next to him, prompting her to get on her back. With a suppressed sigh, Tasianna did as she was told and also dispelled the true ice flower, and after a mont to regroup, we finally managed to settle down and got our chance to speak to the person Sieg had sent us to help.

“That’s what is happening down south?” Rhekk flinched as we got him up to speed with all the news and the reason why we ca instead of sobody from his clan. He eyed Nong, frowning a bit as he tucked his tail under his legs. It seed he was still afraid of the forr about what happened the last ti they t. “So they sent—”

“Yes, ,” I said in Draconic, making sure to emphasize every word, just to sar it into his face that I had finally learned the language “I was supposed to know.” “I’ve been aning to co here anyway for my party’s own reason. I want to go to the peak of the glacier where the elentals gather to gain strength, and it coincided with your problem.”

“… In other words, my brother issued another order to ?”

I nodded, although Sieg never ntioned it. I knew from his older brother that Rhekk had co to the glaciers before, and if he was sent here all alone, it ant Rhekk was already acquainted with this place.

“However, I want it to be considered a favor between the both of us, Rhekk. I know … I know we got on the wrong tail. Twice it happened, and in both cases, it just went in the wrong direction, and I don’t want that to continue. I’ve nothing against you, even if you acted like a douche in both cases,” I said.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not ant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“Quite diplomatic …” Vifi gave so sass, but I owned up to it. This guy had to hear it.

I continued, although Rhekk did give a dissatisfied look. “I help you find those dragons, you help get to the peak. If possible, I would like to ask for help from one of these elder scales if possible. It benefits both of us and we can, you know, nd the wound?”

“… You’re really too soft for your own good, princess,” Rhekk said, causing the twins and Tasianna to stare at him, intimidating him enough to cough. I guess their display of loyalty stuck with him. “Ahem, I ant … No dragon should forgive for what I said to you, denouncing you like that before even your brother. This … trip here is sothing wyverns and dragonewt do. Do you understand what this ans?”

I frowned, rembering Sieg called this his little brother’s punishnt.

Seeing my silence, he continued, grinding his teeth in pain. “It ans I was reduced to a ‘servant.’ Not officially, but my father is treating as such with this duty, and that is the acceptable amount of rcy he is allowed to give as a patriarch. If he were harsher, then besmirching and insulting the daughter of the dragon ruler of a nest would have resulted in sothing worse for . In a way, I am lucky your mother didn’t mind it, otherwise, the clans and our retainers would have pressured Father.”

Uncle Alex was the Dragon Ruler of Ice, but Rhekk speaking like this made it clear none of the true dragonkin of Frozen Nest saw him as such. Mom was our true ruler.

It was fortunate that dragon parents were known to love their children. If this were a human noble, then I could already imagine what they would have to do to their second child. After all, a second son or daughter wasn’t as valuable as the first, and if a second or third child did sothing as rude as insulting the child of the land’s royalty, then … Well, he got lucky.

“Well, let’s just leave it at that, Rhekk,” I said, not wanting to continue with all this negativity.

“Why are you still calling by that?”

“Because every dragon na is so long, it’s a mouthful to say. Besides, giving nicknas makes it all sound cuter, and it isn’t like we’re enemies. Aside from my eldest brother, whose na I have a hard ti turning cute, I gave all my siblings a nickna. Right, Nong?” I turned to him, prompting him to chuckle and nod. I turned back to Rhekk once I confird that. “See? Technically, we should try to get along simply because our parents are good friends. We don’t need to beco friends ourselves, but I prefer an amicable relationship unlike how we left it off when we last t, like you calling a traitor and all that crap.”

Hearing this stuff, Rhekk grumbled a bit but didn’t answer, revealing the hesitation in his eyes as he kept trying to look away from . Was it guilt or did he still have so apprehension of ? If his emotional outburst from the last ti we t was his true self, then it ant that he still didn’t see as a princess or maybe even as a respectable person.

“Getting lectured by sobody younger isn’t the end of the world, young scale,” Nong suddenly said, prompting Rhekk and to look up and see into his red eye hidden behind his green plumage. “Let your pride die here, it’s not worth fighting for when the other is correct. You make yourself look even more of a fool when a younger, open-minded dragonkin is giving you correct guidance while you stubbornly refuse it. I am not saying this as her brother or as a Kargryxmor, but as sobody who learned this lesson during his own pilgrimage.”

Rhekk is … more worried about age?

“Yeah …” Rhekk murmured, tilting his head. “Maybe that is what my older brother was aiming for with this favor. A ‘last chance’ to put the clan over my pride, or a lesson in the fact that even if our princess isn’t what I idealized for a Nordor, she is still our princess, and whatever I say or think will never change this clear fact. A Kargryxmor is a—”

“Watch your words.” Nong shot his neck out, stretching it forward to put his head right above Rhekk, staring him down into silence. Those red eyes were filled with fury, unlike how Nong usually acted.

Cowering back, Rhekk finally nodded, prompting Nong to retract his neck and scoff.

“Shake hands. Seal the oath with my little sister,” he ordered, forcing us both to comply with his demands. Once it was done, Nong’s aura vanished and his mood lightened up again as he gave a short chuckle. “Good! Finally done with that stubborn stuff. Now, before we actually start this expedition properly, I want to learn how you got into that situation, Rhekkraxus. I heard the elentals of this far north attack dragons, but you got ganged up on, and not in the usual fae-like thod of doing it for the laugh. It looked like they were trying to kill you.”

“Arrgh … It was so ti since I sent that ssage. I was told by my father to not go too deep into the glacier for good reason, but I needed to do so since I haven’t been able to find a single true dragonkin since I ca here,” he explained. “Getting permission also ans calling for reinforcent. So, I needed to wait, but eventually, I got hungry. I tried to hunt but the blizzard ca before I could, and even an ice dragon shouldn’t risk getting buried by the snow and hail. Hungry, I tried to find sothing edible that might have sought refuge here, but only found those elentals. Strangely, they didn’t even give a warning, they attacked imdiately and I’ve been on the run since yesterday. Took just a mont of fighting for to understand I wouldn’t be able to break through those elentals’ regeneration.”

“Would be difficult for us as well,” Vifi added. “Your [Dread Burn] doesn’t work on fae, right? Or anything that lives on mana, instead of health, right?”

Fire Abnormality Effect: Dread: Adds an effect to all fire produced by the owner through magic or abilities, called [Dread Burn]. [Dread Burn] nullifies all sources of Health regeneration on an afflicted target and decreases their fire resistance by 30%

I sent that information to Rhekk and Nong. Mana beings were essentially counters, but luckily, the elentals here were weak to fire attacks.

“Our best option is a singular powerful attack, or a Territory of a different elent,” Tasianna answered. “Absorbing contradicting elental mana isn’t as effective to heal us, as our bodies reject it. We ice mages won’t be as effective in killing random elentals, but we won’t be as vulnerable to their attacks. anwhile, Vifi, Prince Nongramos, and Lady Hestia possess raw and fire damage to overwhelm them if needed.”

“Good. That solves our offensive,” Nong said. “Okay, then I want to actually learn what exactly those elentals said. You ntioned sothing about insulting my sister, Tasianna?”

Tasianna scowled, glancing over at before turning back to Nong. “Yes, your highness. They were unappreciative about Lady Hestia’s existence and presence, calling her a ‘contamination.’ They kept repeating the sa words and insults, even blemishing Empress lloxtressa’s na for bringing Lady Hestia to this world. I apologize for escalating everything.”

You kidding ? My birth situation is a problem even with a buncha faefolk?

“I disagree, you made the correct choice,” Vifi stated. “I told this to Hestia already, but those things were ready to attack us even if you hadn’t done it first. I sensed pure wrath. That anger in the sounds they made, the posture of their forms, and the way the last ti we ca here happened. Beat them up, scare them. Honestly, I preferred if we had destroyed them, because I get this feeling they’ll only co back.”

“Ha! I knew we would agree on that!” Nong laughed. “As I said, little scamp, you have to display a modicum of power before these elentals. They are beings with a child’s mind, unlike Tasianna here, and the best way to show a child not to do sothing is to show them the consequences of their whimsical nature. If you had let them attack you first, then I would have agreed with Rhekkraxus’s statent about you being too soft.”

“This and that are two different things, okay?” I sighed, but didn’t pursue the argunt as I was starting to understand a bit more about how Nong liked to handle things.

While calling him a peacock was a bit of a joke since he was flamboyant and expressive, perfect traits for a showman and entertainer, if I had to be serious with his description, then maybe it was apt to call him a humanoid noble, whether elven or human. He was hiding his more bloodthirsty side using that showmanship side of himself, evident by how he relied on corporal punishnt and intimidation.

That look he gave Rhekk just now and how he kept telling to be a bit more forceful in my approaches felt the most dragon amongst my siblings. Was this what Neill ant when she ntioned how Nong was the closest to being like Kramps’s image of the Black Tyrant of the Skies, and how he strove to be its next incarnation?

Honestly, Kramps not like Nong just ‘cause he lied about what happened during his pilgrimage felt like it was due to sothing a bit more personal. Maybe it was. Nong did say how Kramps remained silent about his opinion of all my siblings before they ventured on their pilgrimage.

“In any case, let’s just leave that for now and get ready. Little scamp, mind patching him up?”

With that said, Nong went back to the entrance of the tunnel and kept watch while the rest of us got ready for the expedition. With our guide in Rhekk now finally here with us, we now had the squad needed to traverse the cold and reach our goal at the end of this glacier.

Tasianna, our alchemist, was ready to brew potions and elixirs to fend off the cold. Our two scouts in the twins, were able to fly even in the blizzard if needed. A powerful fighter strong enough to contend against rank As in Vifi, using both physical and lightning attacks to destroy anything our ice mages couldn’t protect us from. Then there was , our party’s “heater” and healer.

However, we really couldn’t forget about rank A helper in my older brother, Nong. Not only our ergency blizzard protector with his wind manipulation, but also our main source of fire attacks as a Kargryxmor like .

Maybe our party could be stronger with a few more additions, but considering what was going on in Iceskale, I guess we were as good as it could get with Frozen Nest’s dragonkin, true, lesser, and humanoid, were all itching to fight so leviathans. Regardless, with this expedition, Aurora’s journey to gain more power and to solve my grandpapa’s two requests for would start now!

“I’ve marked the locations on your map. We need to head there to find the dragons’ nest. I’ve no other clue on why they haven’t answered my summons, so we have to go there personally. If they fell to sleep … Tsk. All this trouble because those elder scales fell asleep,” Rhekk stated.

… Okay, our expedition would happen after we visited these dragons. Woooo! Let’s finish this quick—

“…”

Our party froze in place after we entered the first dragon nest, only to see the remains of a decomposing ice dragon with half of its body encased in ice. The ceiling was leaking, filling the ground with freezing water.

It took us three days to venture deeper into the glacier, burdened by two strong blizzards. We barely made it into this nest with the wind howling as if a dragon was growling into the sky, playing a somber dirge for the loss of a kin. The first dragon we were supposed to et was lying in front of us, eyes devoid of life.

… It seed this expedition was about to beco even more complicated.
