Still, Katarina liked him so much that she often thought about making him her grandson.
"This is my first ti going through sothing like this, so there are many things I don’t understand. I don’t know when sothing might happen. If there’s a ti when I don’t co here for a long while, it might be because of that. So please don’t worry too much," Qiong Xing said softly.
Katarina felt worried when Qiong Xing said that he didn’t know when the baby would be born and that no one could be sure when he might stop coming to the guild again.
But seeing his calm and relaxed expression made her slowly relax as well.
"Alright, I understand. But if possible, let us know how things are going. If there’s anything I can help with, anything at all—" Katarina began.
"That’s right, that’s right!" Sarin suddenly shouted as he snapping out of his stunned state he had been in. "We need to prepare many things. Baby clothes, a bed for the baby to sleep in, and food, and—"
Just when it seed like he had finally co back to his senses, he started saying sothing ridiculous.
"You old fool, what kind of overexcited grandfather are you?" Katarina said with a sigh. "We don’t even know yet if the child will be a boy or a girl—"
"Oh, that’s true!" Sarin said excitedly. "If we don’t know which one it will be, then we should prepare both! Anyway, I have sothing I need to do, so I’ll be leaving now. Don’t worry about anything, Qiong Xing!"
"..."
The four of them could only stare silently as Sarin ran out of the room.
Katarina held her head in her hands as she watched him go.
"That idiot," she muttered under her breath.
Even so, she gave up trying to stop him.
It was clear he ant well and she understood the reason behind his excitent.
The truth was that he was doing all of this for her.
Katarina had never been able to have children.
At one point, she had even tried to leave Sarin because of it.
But Sarin had told her that he didn’t care about such things and that he wanted to stay with her anyway.
Telling Sarin about it had been painful.
But the mont Katarina herself learned that she could never have children, she had felt complete despair.
She cried and cried.
Eventually she accepted it, but when she was younger it had been painful even to look at the children of her friends.
Later she beca an adventurer and the chances to be around children disappeared.
Over ti she grew strong enough to be called soone who was as tough as any man.
People respected her, but they also feared her.
As the guild master, she never allowed herself to show her weakness.
More than once she apologized to Sarin for not being able to give him a family, but he always laughed and told her it was fine.
They could have adopted a child.
But Katarina had never taken that step, because she was afraid.
Would she truly be able to love a child who was not her own?
Would that child ever truly call her mother?
And most of all, could she really make that child happy?
No matter how much she thought about it, she never found an answer.
So she gave up on the idea completely.
Then Qiong Xing appeared in her life.
He smiled at soone like her and called her wonderful.
He treated a demon child who had once been a slave and a beastman as his own family.
If it had only been selfish satisfaction, the people around him would not look so happy.
But they did.
Their smiles were genuine.
It looked just like a real family.
No... it wasn’t just "like" one.
They truly were a family.
Blood relations did not matter.
What mattered was having people you cared about and living your life together with them smiling.
Once Katarina realized that, she felt there was no longer any reason to hold herself back.
The one who had helped her understand this was Qiong Xing and because of that she decided to spoil him as much as she liked.
Calling him her son felt a little strange because he still seed young, so she chose to treat him like a grandson instead.
But every ti she t him, he surprised her like a jack-in-the-box.
It worried her sotis, yet it was also incredibly fun.
And if it was Qiong Xing’s child, then there was nothing to feel except joy.
She found herself wondering what kind of baby would be born and what she should have the child call her when the ti ca.
When she realized what she was thinking, she could only laugh bitterly at herself.
At this rate, she could hardly call Sarin the only overexcited grandparent.
...
On the day of the appointnt, Brat had been waiting at the Adventurers’ Guild as usual.
When he was suddenly guided into a room because soone wanted to talk with him, he was surprised.
Still, when he was given the delicious bread-like treat, he quickly beca happy again.
He kept eating it, saying how good it was, until Qiong Xing suddenly announced that he was going to have a child.
Brat nearly dropped his fork.
A child? Pregnant? Qiong Xing?
At that mont, Brat couldn’t even understand what Qiong Xing’s gender was anymore.
When the guild master confird it and Qiong Xing said Katarina wasn’t mistaken about him being a man, Brat beca even more confused.
"No, you’re not mistaken. But I did say before that my mates is a man. If I add more details, he is a beastman. And in so special cases, even a man can beco pregnant depending on the mates. That’s the situation here," Qiong Xing explained calmly.
A man becoming pregnant?
Brat wondered if sothing like that could really exist.
But the conversation between the two of them didn’t sound like a joke at all and since Qiong Xing was even refusing a request because of it, the story must be true.
