"Tower Spirit? Why don’t you just go rob soone?!"
The Baroness almost blurted out. At the last mont, she bit her tongue and managed to swallow the words back. It hurt so much...
Do you have any idea how expensive a Tower Spirit is?!
In a mage tower, the two most valuable and core components are the energy pool and the Tower Spirit!
A basic mage tower starts at 50,000 contribution points, with the Tower Spirit alone costing 20,000! Based on the fluctuating exchange rate between contribution points and gold coins, that’s about 80,000 gold coins. And even then, not everyone who wants one can buy it imdiately!
However, during this brief pause, she saw Garrett slightly bow his head and lay out a row of chips on the table. Square, half the size of a palm, finely cut and polished, with subtle light glimring on them.
Just one look and you could tell they were definitely produced by an alchemy workshop, sothing other places couldn’t possibly make.
Garrett picked up a chip, infused it with a bit of magic power, and imdiately a light and shadow image erged from the chip. Garrett pointed to the image, his face serious:
"This is an ultrasound image of a pregnant woman from yesterday." He adjusted the angle of the light and shadow, showing the details to the Baroness one by one:
"From this image, you can see the position of the fetus, whether the head is up or down, whether it’s facing the abdon or the back, if the umbilical cord is around the neck, if the placenta is anterior, and whether the amniotic fluid is cloudy..."
The Baroness looked at it with a bewildered expression, only able to recognize that these light and shadow images looked a bit like the ones Nordmark had shown when examining the Queen. And at that ti, Master Nordmark had indeed made similar judgnts based on these images...
She nodded politely. Garrett continued seriously:
"But what each situation ans, how it will develop in the future, and how to handle it, all require accumulating enough experience to make better judgnts. And the first step in accumulating experience is to record these things."
As he spoke, he pushed a dical record book over. The Baroness opened it and read carefully, finding that the treatnts inside were indeed based on the summarized content of the images. She reached out to touch a chip:
"So... this..."
Her fingertips lightly touched it and then stopped. Garrett smiled wryly:
"The alchemy workshop charges 10 contribution points per chip. I once bought hundreds at once, and they wouldn’t give any discount at all. — Later, I connected the box to a Tower Spirit to save this expense."
The Baroness let out a long breath. If they recorded the situation of every pregnant woman in the Royal Maternity Hospital, the number of chips required would be enormous.
It seed Nordmark wanted a Tower Spirit not to waste money, but to save money?
"I’m not asking to own one." Garrett looked directly at the Baroness, his eyes earnest, seemingly a bit aggrieved in her view:
"Borrowing or renting one is fine. When I return to Nevis, I’ll take the data with ... Can the royal family help diate or guarantee this?"
This request sounded much more reasonable. Although the Baroness didn’t know if the Magic Council could lend or rent out Tower Spirits, it was better than the royal family buying one for him.
"In that case, I’ll give it a try." She stood up elegantly, pressing her hand on the table:
"It may not be successful, but I’ll do my best."
Garrett thanked her profusely and saw her out. Ah, this trip, who knows how much money he can make, enough to buy a Tower Spirit...
Even if it’s not enough, at least he could use a temporary one for a while!
The Baroness drove straight to the Royal Mage Corps and found Archmage Seymour. Hearing her request to "borrow or rent a Tower Spirit," the Archmage was stunned and imdiately rejected it without a second thought: ꞦÅNồ𝖇ËS
"Tower Spirit? Are you kidding ! Have you ever heard of borrowing a Tower Spirit alone? A mage tower has a Tower Spirit, but without a mage tower, where would the Tower Spirit co from?!"
"Uh... but Master Nordmark said that for dical research purposes, he hoped to borrow one for a while..."
The Archmage fell silent instantly. He lowered his head, thought for a mont, then stood up:
"I’ll go ask."
Baroness: ???
I can’t borrow one, but Nordmark can?
Are you seriously treating people differently?! Is it that the Magic Council doesn’t lend to outsiders, or does Nordmark enjoy special privileges within the Council?
She sat patiently in the reception room, waiting for the Archmage to return. Since he said he’d ask, it seed there were no extra Tower Spirits in the capital, or even if there were, they weren’t in his hands. Whether they could get one depended on Nevis.
The main magic tower in the capital and the Council’s Tower of Heaven maintained a long-standing communication line for transmitting urgent ssages. Of course, non-urgent ssages could sotis use this line, but for a fee—a very high fee.
Otherwise, it wouldn’t cover the exorbitant energy cost of transmitting the ssage.
Garrett’s matter was borderline between free and paid. However, Archmage Seymour didn’t consider the money issue at all and directly opened the line to convey the request. After a while, he ca out with a parchnt scroll and sat down in front of the Baroness:
"Nevis inquired, how much is the royal family willing to pay for Nordmark’s treatnt of the Queen?"
This question had always been vague between the royal family and the Magic Council. Both parties had statuses to maintain; the Council directly asking would seem distrustful of the royal family’s generosity, and the royal family directly quoting a price...
Co on, the Queen asking a subject to do sothing and then paying for it is called a "reward," not "paynt." Paying upfront before asking would lower their status. Only the impoverished would demand money on the spot!
But the Baroness estimated that less than 10,000-20,000 gold coins wouldn’t be enough. This amount included the surgery fees, the cost of bringing a team, traveling thousands of miles, and staying in the capital for three months.
Besides, the Queen’s status demanded a significant amount; too little would be seen as stingy.
This money wasn’t enough to buy a Tower Spirit; renting one for three months should be more than sufficient. An incredible thought crossed the Baroness’s mind, and she exclaid:
"Are you suggesting?"
"Nevis suggests that since he wants it, we should see if several parties can contribute to sell it to him." Archmage Seymour’s eyes were sowhat dazed, but he answered smoothly:
"Hosting a few paying guests, teaching other spellcasters, and writing papers. If we combine these, and he contributes a part himself, we might be able to gather enough..."
