In the afternoon at the hospital, Mu Yan received a call from Yin Manqing, telling her to co to the Jiang Family Mansion with Jiang Jingheng for dinner that night.
Before six o’clock, Jiang Jingheng ca to pick her up.
In the ward, Mu Chen lay on the hospital bed. In less than ten days, he seed to have lost more weight, looking even weaker, as if he could leave this world at any mont.
His gaze was fixed on the person on the sofa, with emotions surging in his eyes, full of patience, reluctance, and attachnt.
As if sensing his gaze, Mu Yan looked up at him and asked, "Chenchen, do you need anything?"
She suddenly looked up, catching Mu Chen off guard. Panic flashed in his eyes, and he replied, "Sis, I’m a bit thirsty."
"If I hadn’t noticed, would you have just kept staring at without saying a word?" Mu Yan looked at him reproachfully, got up to pour him a glass of water, and suddenly heard a sound coming in.
She turned her head and saw it was Jiang Jingheng, smiling, "You’re here."
"Yeah."
"We’ll leave as soon as Chenchen finishes drinking water," Mu Yan said.
"Yeah." Jiang Jingheng walked to the bedside, his gaze fixed on Mu Chen on the bed, with dark tides surging in his light brown eyes.
Mu Chen sensed his gaze, feeling inexplicably uneasy in his heart, but he called out, "Brother-in-law."
"Yeah." Jiang Jingheng replied in a tone that was neither warm nor cold.
His temperant had always been like this. Mu Yan found it unsurprising, but Mu Chen felt that his gaze had changed, though he couldn’t exactly say how.
After Mu Chen finished drinking the water, Mu Yan said, "I’ll go ho with your brother-in-law for dinner, let the caretaker stay with you for a while, I’ll co back to accompany you after dinner."
"Sis, no need, having the caretaker stay with is fine," Mu Chen quickly said.
"Alright, stop refusing, I’ve been out for so many days, how does it hurt to accompany you for a few days? If you keep saying this, I won’t go to work in a few days, I’ll stay in the hospital with you every day," Mu Yan threatened.
"No, sis, you have to go to work!" Mu Chen beca anxious.
This afternoon, he had persuaded her for a long ti before she agreed to go to work.
What sense does it make for a young girl not to work and stay with a sick person all day? Besides, she’s not married to an ordinary person. Although most n don’t like career won, very few prefer housewives either.
"Then be good." Mu Yan raised her hand and ruffled her brother’s hair.
Originally dense hair had now thinned to a few strands due to dication. She felt a bit sorrowful looking at it, turned her gaze away, and hooked her arm through Jiang Jingheng’s.
"I’m leaving with your brother-in-law."
"Yeah." Mu Chen nodded.
On the way to the Jiang’s, Mu Yan noticed Jiang Jingheng was unusually silent and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"Thinking about what to do tonight," he said.
"Huh?" Mu Yan looked at him in confusion.
Jiang Jingheng turned his head to et her bewildered gaze and chuckled lightly, "Didn’t you just say you were going to stay at the hospital with your brother tonight?"
Mu Yan suddenly understood, grabbed his sleeve, and whispered, "I need to stay at the hospital with Chenchen for the next few days."
Jiang Jingheng looked at her, not speaking. It wasn’t a tone of negotiation, even though there was unease in her gaze, there was more determination.
He responded, "Yeah."
Mu Yan breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at him.
Not long after, the car arrived at the Jiang Family Mansion.
As soon as she walked in, Mu Yan sensed sothing was off.
In the living room, Qiu Shuyun was looking at her daughter with displeasure, "He’s your real brother. Now that he doesn’t want to co ho, are you happy? How did I give birth to such an unfilial daughter as you?"
