Hearing Cherie’s words, Clara instinctively glanced over at Seth Quinn. When she saw he was also staring at her, she quickly averted her gaze and looked back at Cherie. "You’re right. We should thank the kind person."
With that, she handed the music box she was holding to Cherie, changing the subject. "Here, this is the gift I bought for you. See how cute and pretty it is? It even plays lovely music when you open it. What do you think? Do you like it?"
Cherie looked at the music box, and the corner of his mouth twitched. ’I’m a boy, hello? We haven’t seen each other in over a month—did she get my gender mixed up? How could she buy such a girly gift?’
He really wanted to say, ’I don’t like it.’ But upon receiving a warning glare from his uncle, he smiled, took the music box, and said sweetly, "Thank you, Sister. As long as it’s from you, Cherie loves it, no matter what it is."
Clara was delighted. She ruffled Cherie’s soft, fluffy hair and planted a kiss on his little cheek, smiling. "You’re such a good boy, Cherie. I absolutely adore you."
That kiss made Seth Quinn, who was standing to the side, burn with jealousy. He was suddenly envious of his own nephew.
’When will she say words like that to and then kiss on her own? If that day ever cos, I’ll definitely be so overwheld with passion that I’ll pin her down under .’
Seth’s mind replayed the mory of her suppressed sighs and moans from his teasing last night, and a thrill of excitent shot through him.
River Sterling used to tell him that he was cold and had no interest in won simply because he’d never truly savored one. Once a man has his first taste, he gets hooked. He develops a craving that spirals out of control, to the point where he can’t go a single day without a woman.
He had dismissed it back then, but now he believed it. Because even though he and Clara hadn’t truly been together—even though their every encounter had been brief and restrained—he had already gotten a taste and was completely hooked.
Seth stared at Clara, montarily lost in his thoughts.
Seeing his uncle staring intently at his future aunt, an idea sparked in Cherie’s mind. He turned to Clara with an innocent expression and said, "Sister, you said we should thank the kind person. Shouldn’t you give Uncle Quinn a kiss to show your gratitude?"
Er...
Clara shot a mortified glance at Seth Quinn. Seeing him smiling expectantly, her face imdiately flushed red.
"...Cherie, boys and girls can’t just go around kissing each other."
"But Sister, you’re a girl and I’m a boy. How co you kissed ?" ’Ti to play innocent,’ he thought. ’I’m just a little kid. I don’t understand a thing.’
"You’re a little boy, so it’s okay for to kiss you. But grown-ups—n and won—can’t kiss each other so casually." Clara felt a bit helpless. ’Usually, Cherie seems like a little adult who understands everything, but I guess he’s still a child at heart.’
"Oh, but I’ve seen lots of grown-ups kissing. Why can’t you and Uncle Quinn?" he asked, continuing to feign ignorance.
"...They’re couples, or they’re married. That ans they’re already very close, so they’re allowed to kiss. People who aren’t close can’t do that, understand?" As soon as she asked, she figured Cherie definitely wouldn’t get it.
Not wanting to continue this conversation, she shot to her feet as if her seat was on fire. "Oh, right! Cherie, you lie down and get so rest. I’m going to find Dr. Linden and ask about your condition."
With that, she practically ran out the door.
By the ti Seth Quinn snapped out of his daze, Clara had already fled the room. Cherie looked anxious and mouthed sothing at Seth.
Seth, of course, knew what the boy was anxious about. Without a word to his nephew, he hurried out after her.
