As for Autumn Shelby, the way he saw it, there was simply no need to tell Clara, no need to explain. He thought it was pointless. Autumn Shelby was in the past and had nothing to do with their lives now, so why would he ever bring her up?
True to his word, he hadn’t dated many won. Besides his wife, Clara Grant, there was only his ex, Autumn Shelby. He wasn’t good at figuring out what won were thinking or feeling; he simply followed his own logic and did what he thought was right.
So, he assud that if he thought sothing wasn’t important, Clara must feel the sa way.
Looking back now, it seed he had been a bit too arrogant, and a little too dense.
And that arrogance, that bit of foolishness, had nearly cost him the most important thing in his life!
Seth Quinn froze for a mont at the thought.
’The most important thing? Had Clara Grant, without him even realizing it, beco the most important person in his life? Had their marriage beco the most important thing to him?’
A sudden sting on his fingertips snapped Seth Quinn back to reality. The cigarette he had lit, the one he’d only taken a single drag from, had burned all the way down. It was a clear sign he’d been standing there silently for a very long ti.
He stubbed the cigarette out in the ashtray on the windowsill and went back into the room.
Perhaps the day’s revelations had been too unexpected, or perhaps his mind was simply too full, but he found he still couldn’t settle down.
He picked up his phone, intending to call Clara Grant, but when the screen lit up, he saw it was already eleven o’clock at night.
After a mont’s thought, he put his phone back down.
’It’s eleven. She’s probably asleep. I shouldn’t disturb her.’
With that, Seth Quinn went into the bathroom to take a shower.
About ten minutes later, he ca out of the bathroom in a bathrobe, rubbing his mostly dry hair with a towel.
His eyes landed on the phone on the nightstand again, and his movents faltered.
He cursed himself under his breath. He really couldn’t look at his phone. The mont he did, he couldn’t help but want to call Clara Grant.
He scrubbed at his hair a few more tis, then tossed the towel onto a nearby chair and leaned back against the headboard.
His eyes flickered to the phone a few more tis until, finally, unable to suppress the impulse, he grabbed it and dialed her number.
When the phone rang, Clara Grant was still awake. Tomorrow was the filming of her big death scene, so she wanted to study the script a bit more to better understand Tina’s state of mind.
Holly Sumrs, however, had been filming all day and was already sound asleep, completely worn out.
The ringing phone seed to disturb Holly Sumrs, as she stirred and rolled over in her sleep.
Glancing cautiously at Holly Sumrs, Clara Grant quickly picked up her phone to answer. As she got out of bed and headed for the balcony, she whispered a quiet "Hello?" into the phone.
Seth Quinn was surprised she had picked up so quickly. He paused for a second, then his first words were, "You’re still awake?"
Afraid of waking Holly Sumrs, Clara Grant had answered in a hurry without checking who was calling. Hearing Seth Quinn’s voice so unexpectedly, she froze for a mont and pulled the phone away from her ear to look at the na on the screen.
The single word ’Seth’ stood out clearly on the bright screen. Seth Quinn, probably thinking she hadn’t heard him, said, "Hello?" a couple more tis.
Clara Grant ca to her senses and put the phone back to her ear. After a brief pause, she said, "I’m here."
’Has it really been almost a week since I heard his voice?’ she thought. ’Hearing it now feels like it’s been an eternity.’
