Clara Grant gave her a placid glance, not deigning to respond, and turned to walk toward the bus stop.
Autumn Shelby froze. ’After all I’ve said, that despicable woman Clara Grant is actually ignoring !’
Without a second thought, she hit the gas and drove after her. Clara Grant didn’t break her stride, so Autumn followed slowly in her car. "What’s the matter? Did I strike a nerve? Pretending to be calm because you have nothing to say? But you can’t fool your own heart. Only you know how much it truly hurts."
Clara Grant continued to ignore her, focused only on walking her own way.
But Autumn Shelby was relentless. "Are you on your way to take the bus? Tsk, tsk. What a sha. Weren’t you riding in Seth’s car when you arrived earlier? Making a grand entrance through the Quinn family’s gates as their future young mistress?
And in such a short ti, you’ve fallen so low you can’t even afford a taxi and have to cram onto a bus? You really are nothing without Seth. Absolutely nothing!
Seth was right not to choose you. A woman like you isn’t just low-born, you’re completely useless. Marrying him would just make you a burden that would drag him down!"
She had expected Clara Grant to continue ignoring her, but to her surprise, Clara turned her head to look at her. Then, a slight smile touched her lips as she spoke.
"Miss Shelby, your status is certainly noble, and you’re so shrewd and capable, but... he didn’t choose you either, did he? If he had, you wouldn’t have the ti to be following around, spouting all this sour nonsense, would you?"
"You!" Autumn Shelby was choked by her words, montarily speechless.
Chloe Grant, who was driving slowly behind Autumn Shelby, had clearly overheard their conversation. She imdiately called out to console Autumn, "Miss Shelby, why are you stooping to her level? Let’s go. She can’t even afford a taxi. If she misses the bus on top of all this... heartbroken and with no ride, tsk, tsk. How pathetic!"
Autumn Shelby glanced at Chloe Grant’s car out of the corner of her eye, then looked back at Clara Grant. "It’s already obvious he won’t choose you. As for whether he’ll choose , I can’t say. But who knows? After all, I still have plenty of opportunities and ti to win back his heart. You, on the other hand, have no chance at all! Hahahaha..."
Autumn Shelby let out a long laugh, rolled up her window, and sped away, leaving a cloud of dust in her wake.
Clara Grant finally stopped walking. Her hands silently balled into fists, her short fingernails digging deep into her palms.
Before she could even feel the pain, Chloe Grant’s flashy red sports car pulled up in front of her. "Clara Grant, how’s it feel? I told you you would never marry Seth Quinn, and you didn’t. I said you’d never marry into the Quinn family, and you won’t. So don’t you ever delude yourself into thinking you could surpass in status.
You know? I absolutely despised that superior look you always used to have! Heh, who would’ve thought you’d see a day like this? Oh, right. Those two tis you slapped ... you owe for those, and I’ll be getting my payback sooner or later!"
With that, she slamd on the gas and sped off as well. Unable to dodge in ti, Clara Grant got a mouthful of exhaust fus for her trouble.
Watching the two cars disappear one after the other, Clara Grant could no longer hold herself together. She slowly sank into a crouch. Her gaze was lowered, hiding her expression, but tears could be seen falling, one by one, striking the pavent and being instantly absorbed.
’Hadn’t she already broken up with Seth Quinn? Why did everyone keep bringing him up?’
’Yes, they must know. They know that her heart would ache every single ti he was ntioned! That’s why they were doing it. They were doing it on purpose!’
