"That’s enough!" Miles Quinn said coolly before Ivy Vance could even answer. "You didn’t co to school today to discuss topics completely unrelated to your studies, did you?"
"...Of course not," Chloe Grant replied instinctively, montarily stunned.
"Well, that settles it then." Miles Quinn glanced at the red Audi behind them and teased, "Eldest Miss Grant, you should get in your car and go. Don’t make your driver’s life difficult by having him trail you like this."
"Don’t mind him. I already told him he didn’t need to bring today. It’s not like I’m going to so faraway film shoot." Chloe Grant didn’t even glance back, taking another step closer to Miles Quinn. "Miles, you know this. I never wanted special treatnt at school. It’s just going to class, but having a chauffeur drop off and pick up every day makes look like I’m putting on the airs of a pampered heiress."
At this, she shot a pointed glance at Clara Grant and continued, "It was my dad. He insisted the driver bring . He just dotes on so much, terrified I might suffer the slightest hardship. And as their children, we can’t disappoint our parents’ loving intentions, can we?"
The first part of her statent was ant for Miles Quinn, an explanation so he wouldn’t mistake her for another rich, pampered girl who lived in luxury. The last sentence, however, was clearly and deliberately aid at Clara Grant.
She wanted to provoke Clara Grant, to make her understand that even though they were both Cedric Grant’s biological daughters, their treatnt was worlds apart.
Cedric Grant treated Chloe Grant like a priceless treasure, the apple of his eye, while Clara Grant was cast aside like a worn-out shoe.
Clara Grant acted as if she didn’t understand the subtext, her expression calm as she simply lowered her eyes.
But the slight tremble of her hands gripping the handlebars betrayed that she wasn’t as calm as her expression suggested.
Seeing that Clara Grant was showing almost no reaction, Chloe Grant gritted her teeth and added, "Isn’t that right, Clara Grant?!"
Clara Grant hadn’t wanted to pay her any mind, but she hadn’t expected the other girl to press her so relentlessly, even foolishly directing the question right at her. ’In that case, she can’t bla for being harsh.’
With that thought, Clara Grant shrugged. "A loving father and a filial daughter, how enviable. You know how many children from single-parent hos long for a father’s love. Oh, but that’s not entirely right. It depends on the kind of father. If he’s the type to abandon his wife for a mistress, to cast out his legitimate child to legitimize an illegitimate one... then he’s hardly worth longing for. Then again, there are plenty of n like that, and plenty of mistresses and illegitimate daughters who happily take what isn’t theirs."
As she spoke, her eyes remained fixed on Chloe Grant. "Gosh, what do you think? When they destroy soone’s family, enjoying a happiness built on the pain of others, do you think they feel any guilt for stealing it?"
When she finished, Clara Grant let out another little "Oh!" as if suddenly rembering sothing. "I’m so sorry, I forgot you’re also... My apologies."
Her words cut off abruptly, but everyone present understood the part she’d left unsaid.
Chloe Grant’s mother was the other woman, and she was an illegitimate daughter. They had only secured their official status a little over a year ago. This was hardly a secret.
Clara Grant’s tirade hit Chloe Grant right where it hurt. Who would want to still be branded as an illegitimate daughter after finally becoming the "official" one!
"You!" Chloe Grant was seething with uncontrollable rage.
Miles Quinn, however, let out a soft chuckle. ’Clara Grant certainly has a sharp tongue. Chloe Grant was slandering her earlier, so is this her form of an eye for an eye?’
"Miles, look at her! She’s bullying !" Seeing that Miles Quinn was actually laughing, Chloe Grant stepped forward, aggrieved, and reached for his arm.
"That’s enough. Get in your car and go to class. Look, you’ve got an assistant and a driver following you around in this scorching sun. You might not feel the heat, but it’s hard on them. Try to think of others for a change. We’re leaving."
With that, Miles Quinn plopped down on the back of Clara Grant’s electric scooter and motioned to her, "Clara, let’s go."
Clara Grant heard him ntion the scorching sun, but when she looked up, she saw a sky full of dark clouds. She was just about to laugh when he suddenly hopped onto her scooter and urged her to get going.
’He wants to give him a ride!’
Clara Grant froze for a mont before managing an "Oh." She quickly got on the scooter and drove forward.
Leaving Chloe Grant behind them, stamping her foot in place!
