123: The Strange Child
"Little sister? What's wrong?"
Jasmine asked tentatively, but unexpectedly, the child suddenly turned around and started running the mont she heard Jasmine's words. She ran straight to the corner at the end of the corridor, then used the wall as cover to hide half her body, only poking out half her head with a blank expression while watching their direction.
"Um... she looks like a shy little kitten... Hmm? Are you okay, Miss Jasmine?"
"Waa... being rejected by a child, even I would be hurt by that!"
Jasmine looked dejected. She couldn't understand why. She had clearly shown herself to be so gentle and kind, so why was that little girl still afraid of her?
"Cough, cough, it's fine, Miss Jasmine. That little sister might just be shy around strangers. It's not your problem."
"Exactly, exactly. If Lady Saint... Miss, if you're this hurt just because a shy little girl is avoiding you, then I, who was rejected by all the children, might as well just go into depression!"
"Pfft..."
Although she knew it wasn't kind, our Miss Angel still couldn't help but burst out laughing after hearing Classmate Zhang Anran's helpless and sorrowful statent.
"Stop laughing, stop laughing! How was I supposed to know that children these days have such strong prejudice against spicy sticks? They're so delicious!"
Zhang Anran stomped his foot in frustration. The chocolate Jasmine brought had already been distributed, but not a single child wanted the spicy sticks in his hand.
"It's fine! It's just that these little ones are too young. You can go out later and give the spicy sticks to the slightly older boys, around eleven or twelve, who are helping outside. They'll probably love them!"
"No need to comfort , Classmate Evelia! I'm not that fragile! So what if no one wants the spicy sticks I brought out? Worst case, I'll just eat them myself! Here, do you want so?"
Evelia comfortingly patted Zhang Anran, who looked sowhat downcast. But this guy, who had just monts ago looked silent and depressed, suddenly perked up after hearing Evelia's comfort. He looked completely revived and full of energy.
"Pfft!"
Watching Zhang Anran's extrely exaggerated rapid transformation, even Evelia couldn't help but laugh out loud. She covered her mouth slightly with one hand, wearing a pure and sweet smile. Our Classmate Anran was montarily stunned by the sight. But just then, Amya suddenly blocked Evelia with a dark expression. Her golden eyes, constantly radiating a dangerous aura, seed to say:
"Get lost, this is my wife!"
Jasmine watched the interactions between them with so interest. Based on her professional eye developed over many years, this boy nad Zhang Anran definitely liked Evelia too. But he didn't seem to know that Evelia was a lesbian, and he also didn't seem to have figured out the relationship between Evelia and Amya. Tsk tsk tsk, what a pitiful kid.
"Ladies, Bishop Sauron asked to co call you. The preparations outside are all done. Next is the official opening ceremony. Could you please take the children outside?"
Just then, the Watcher who had interacted with Evelia a few tis, Mo Wuyou, walked in with a smile. Hearing his words, the little ones gathered nearby also got excited.
"Yay! It's finally starting!? I heard from the teacher that the last activity today is a movie!"
"Really!? There's a movie to watch?"
"Luo Xin, you only just found out? The teacher said so a long ti ago!"
"Huh, is that so?"
"Of course! I just don't know what type of movie it is. I want to watch a detective one!"
"..."
These little ones had clearly been inford beforehand and basically knew the schedule of today's activities quite well. But they didn't care at all about "adult matters" like the opening ceremony. What they cared about was only the movie at night and what delicious food they could eat.
"Of course, everyone co over. Don't run around."
Jasmine smiled and waved her hand. The little ones who had originally been gathered in a group excitedly discussing among themselves imdiately quieted down. One by one, they all stood behind Jasmine like well-behaved children.
It had to be said, Jasmine's two boxes of chocolate were quite useful. Less than ten minutes had passed since she first spoke with Luo Xin, and these little ones were already following her every word.
Moreover, Jasmine, as the Saint, radiated that sense of warmth and gentleness when facing children, which really helped close the distance between her and the children. And watching her, although this was her first ti at the Christian Orphanage, she was quite familiar with the entire activity process. She must have participated in similar activities quite often in the past.
"By the way, that child over there, do we need to worry about her?"
Suddenly, Evelia rembered there was still a rather shy girl at the corner of the corridor in the distance. But when she turned her head to look at the direction where the girl had been, she was surprised to discover that the girl who should have been hiding at the corner peeking out had already disappeared at so point.
"...Sister Jasmine! An An wasn't like this before. Although she's always been a bit shy around strangers, she's never completely avoided people like today. I'm a bit worried about her!"
Just then, the girl nad Luo Xin who had first communicated with Jasmine spoke up hesitantly. Her cute little face was filled with worry, and her words were also full of concern for her friend.
"Yes, yes! An An didn't really like talking before either, but she never avoided people like this!"
"Right, I rember it started around recently. An An suddenly started trying every way possible to avoid the adults in the orphanage. She doesn't even like the teachers!"
"And! An An usually loves sweets the most. Today there's such delicious chocolate and she didn't even co to eat it. That's really strange!"
After Luo Xin was the first to speak up, the remaining children also started chattering. Hearing their descriptions, Jasmine also felt sothing was strange. These children taken in by the orphanage, even so of the introverted ones, were basically very grateful and respectful toward the orphanage teachers and other adults. Situations like this child nad An An, being distant and avoiding people, were indeed quite rare.
What's more, according to the children, this was a situation that had only started recently. Before, that child had been relatively normal. This made it even stranger.
"Miss Evelia, could I trouble you to go find that child nad An An? I'll go with Miss Amya and the others to take the children to the venue and settle them in first, then co find you."
