Chapter 41 : Gabriel

"Ha—I'm exhausted. I really don't get what's so special about guarding a blood sample..."

In the dead of night, dozens of ters underground at the Wangyou City Night Watch headquarters, a Night Watch mber dressed in black yawned out of boredom.

Behind him was a storage room containing countless precious tissue samples.

"Sigh, after all, the samples sent this ti were all quite special! Besides that demon's blood sample, there were also those piles of rotting remains that were so decomposed you couldn't even tell the race with the naked eye. The elves have been pressing harder and harder, and the higher-ups are probably already swamped, right?"

Another Night Watch man sitting across from him sighed helplessly as well.

He casually pulled two cigarettes from his pocket, stuck one in his mouth, and handed the other to his colleague across from him.

"Want one?"

"Lend a light too."

And so, the two Night Watch mbers, forced to work overti, sat at the storage room's entrance and started smoking.

As clouds of smoke puffed out from their mouths and noses, their furrowed brows gradually relaxed, as if the nicotine they exhaled carried away their troubles as well.

Normally, no one would be specifically stationed at the storage room, but as the Night Watch mber who offered the cigarette had said, these samples were now the Night Watch's only hope for quickly solving the case.

They absolutely couldn't afford any mistakes.

Thus, that afternoon, the Night Watch branch held a lottery to decide who would be the unlucky ones to guard the storage room entrance that night.

Clearly, these two guys had terrible luck.

With less than a one percent chance, the duty had fallen on them.

"Important samples, my ass. They're just afraid that Miss Demon will sneak in to destroy her blood sample if she finds out it's here, right? I say the leadership is making a fuss over nothing. There was no need to go after her in the first place. How many problems has she solved for us? Even the city's cri rate dropped because of her. If it's destroyed, so be it!"

"You can't say that, buddy. That demon girl did kill soone, even if it was a scumbag even we despised. The nature of her actions doesn't change. But of course, haven't we always turned a blind eye to her? Didn't we even teach a lesson to that rich young master's old man when he tried to make a fuss last ti?"

"Heh, that's true..."

"But I really wouldn't mind eting her. Before, my son's school had tons of those little punks forming cliques to bully others. I've wanted to teach them a lesson for ages! But because of the Night Watch restrictions, I couldn't make a move. Luckily, she went and dealt with those punks a few tis, scared them straight. When I found out, I was thrilled!"

"Honestly, the ones who really want to catch her are probably the church folks, right?"

"Ain't that the truth? A bunch of useless god-botherers, and now they want to take her blood sample from us! Really giving them too much face!"

The two Night Watch mbers chatted back and forth, smoking one cigarette after another.

Suddenly, one of them glanced to the side out of the corner of his eye, and his expression instantly sharpened.

He kept the cigarette in his mouth, stood up abruptly, and walked toward a corner of the corridor.

"What's up, buddy? Sothing wrong?"

"I rember when we ca, that trash can was at the corner, right? When did it move here?"

The Night Watch mber who noticed sothing off crouched down to inspect the trash can that had sohow fallen over.

This trash can had always been placed at the corridor's corner, usually blocking the path.

Since hardly anyone ca this way, no one bothered with it.

But that night, when they arrived, this Night Watch mber had specifically paid attention to the trash can and casually kicked it to the middle of the path. Yet now, it had sohow moved, which ant...

"Damn, there's—"

Before the Night Watch mber could shout, a shadow appeared silently behind him, and a single hand chop knocked him out effortlessly.

The other Night Watch mber on duty saw this and his face paled.

A red magic array flared up in his hand, but in the next mont, a pitch-black feather, seemingly radiating boundless curses and darkness, slowly drifted down before his eyes.

"My niece said to avoid killing if possible, so thou shalt sleep for now."

Lucifer's figure flashed behind the Night Watch mber.

In the next instant, boundless darkness enveloped the man who was about to resist.

With the sound of a heavy object hitting the ground, Lucifer effortlessly breached the storage room deep within the Night Watch base.

"Blood sample... found."

As soon as Lucifer entered the storage room, his deep eyes glowed faintly, instantly locating the blood sample labeled "Demon."

He walked straight to the deepest part of the room, ignoring the rotting remains scattered on the floor, and precisely picked out the test tube he was looking for from a pile of others.

"This way, Little Iphie should be at ease."

But just as Lucifer was about to crush the blood sample along with the test tube, his brows suddenly twitched.

He looked at the sample in his hand with so doubt.

"This is..."

Lucifer pulled out the stopper from the test tube and sniffed it lightly. His brows furrowed even more.

"Pig's blood."

Lucifer snorted coldly, tossing the test tube to the ground like trash.

The glass tube shattered instantly, and the "demon's blood" stored inside splattered everywhere.

"Seems soone beat to it..."

"But I'm quite curious—why would they do such a thing?"

"Gabriel?"

As Lucifer's words fell, a holy, pure white light blood before him.

With three pairs of angelic wings, symbolizing sanctity and purity, slowly unfurling from the light, a petite, sweet-looking blonde angel girl appeared before Lucifer, a lollipop in her mouth.

The young girl was like a star fallen from the sky, beautiful and dazzling.

Even though her figure was still sowhat underdeveloped and her height was far from that of an adult, just her breathtakingly adorable face was enough to make anyone certain that she would grow into a stunning beauty.

But Lucifer knew well that this girl would never have the chance to grow up.

Since millions of years ago, she had always been as she was now.

The six-winged Seraph, the guardian of Heaven—Gabriel.
