The white Haired girl Maria’s appearance was so abrupt and incongruous that it took all three of us aback. The terrified tension from monts before shifted into sothing almost comical as this miniature warrior appeared seemingly out of nowhere to defend her beloved.
Victor stared at Mariabell in utter disbelief.
"How did you get here?" he asked incredulously.
"I thought I told you to wait at ho!"
His face had gone from pale terror to shocked bewildernt within seconds.
This little girl who is supposed to be my fiancée has just ruined everything!
He thought desperately.
She can’t know about any of this! She’s too pure! Too innocent!
But Mariabell didn’t seem deterred by his questions; instead she kept glaring up at defiantly.
"Like I’d let you handle scary vampires on your own," she muttered stubbornly.
"This is exactly why I followed you here."
I exchanged an amused glance with Aisha who seed equally entertained by this turn of events.
It seed our friend had so explaining to do...
Victor’s face flushed a deep red as Aisha’s question hung in the air. He looked like he wanted to disappear into the floor, his eyes darting frantically between Mariabell and us."N-no!" he stamred, waving his hands wildly. "She’s not my sister! She’s... she’s..." He trailed off, seemingly unable to co up with a suitable explanation.Mariabell, however, puffed out her chest proudly and declared,"I’m Victor’s fiancée!"The word hung there for a mont before sinking in.
Aisha blinked, then looked at Victor with raised eyebrows. "Fiancée?" she echoed incredulously. "You’re engaged to a teenager?"Victor groaned and covered his face with his hands. "It’s not like that!" he protested weakly. "We’re not... I an, we haven’t..." He paused, realizing he was digging himself into an even deeper hole with every word."Haven’t what?" Aisha pressed, her incredulous gaze shifting between Victor and Mariabell.
"Haven’t gotten married? Haven’t consummated the engagent?" She shook her head slowly. "Victor, she’s just a child."Victor’s face turned an even deeper shade of red. "She’s not a child!" he snapped defensively. "She’s almost eighteen!"Aisha raised an eyebrow skeptically. "And how old are you?" she asked pointedly.Mariabell, anwhile, seed oblivious to the tension. She wrapped her arms around Victor possessively and glared up at Aisha with a fierce protectiveness."I don’t care what you think," she declared stubbornly.
Aisha paused for a mont then looked at ’You handle it he’s your friend’ I sighed and then glanced at victor with a look of hurt "I didn’t know you were a lolicon Victor"
Victor recoiled as if he’d been slapped, his eyes widening in shock and horror at my accusation. "What? No! It’s not like that, Valerian!" he exclaid desperately.
"You know better than that!"He looked genuinely hurt by the suggestion, his face paling. Mariabell, sensing his distress, tightened her grip on him protectively."It’s true!" she insisted stubbornly. "Victor loves ! He’s not so pervert!"Victor ran a hand through his hair frantically. "I do care about her," he said firmly, looking at with pleading eyes.
"But not in the way you’re thinking. She’s... she’s special to ."He took a deep breath, seeming to gather his courage. "The truth is, Mariabell is... she’s like ." He glanced at the board still clutched in his other hand—the one with my na on it—and swallowed hard."
Victor’s face flushed an even deeper shade of red as he blurted out his revelation. "She’s a otaku!" he exclaid loudly, drawing stares from passersby. "Like ! She’s also a weeb and a fellow follower of ani!"He looked around frantically, realizing he’d just shouted that in the middle of the airport.
Mariabell giggled, clearly amused by his embarrassnt."What Victor ans to say," she said calmly, patting his arm reassuringly,"is that we share a mutual love for Japanese animation and culture." She smiled up at him adoringly. "It’s how we bonded."Victor nodded eagerly, grateful for her diplomatic explanation.
"Yes, exactly," he agreed. "We’re kindred spirits in that regard." He looked back at pleadingly. "You understand, don’t you Valerian? How rare it is to find soone who truly gets you?"
I stared at Victor emotionlessly, my face unreadable. "No, bro," I said flatly, ignoring his desperate attempt to deflect. "I understand clearly, and I respect your taste." My tone made it clear that I was not convinced by his justification.Victor’s shoulders slumped slightly as he realized he couldn’t justify his situation so easily. He glanced around nervously at the curious stares from passersby and swallowed hard. "Anyways," he said quickly, trying to change the subject,"let’s get out of here.
We’re already attracting attention."Mariabell nodded in agreent, still clinging possessively to Victor’s arm. "Yeah, co on Vic," she urged. "Let’s go sowhere more private to talk."Victor looked at hesitantly, unsure of what to expect after my reaction. "Valerian?" he asked cautiously. "Are you... coming with us?"I remained silent for a mont before sighing softly.
"I don’t have any other choice anyway," I said resignedly, glancing at Aisha."Let’s move." I held her hand firmly as we began to follow Victor and Mariabell out of the airport terminal. Thefamiliar on Victor’s shoulder had returned, fluttering anxiously around him as if sensing the tense atmosphere.
Icouldn’t shake the feeling of unease that settled in my chest as we walked. Victor’s secret engagent to a teenager was just the tip of the iceberg—I knew there was more he wasn’t telling us about his involvent with the supernatural world and his grandfather’s plans. But for now, I had no choice but to play along and see where this twisted path would lead us. As weexited the airport, I leaned in close to Aisha, my lips brushing against her ear as I whispered,"Stay vigilant, love.Sothing tells our adventure is just beginning."
Aisha blushed at my whispered endearnt, her cheeks turning a charming shade of pink. She lightly pinched my waist in response, muttering quietly back at ,"Who are you calling your love, idiot?" Despite her words, there was a playful sparkle in her purple eyes that betrayed her affection. We followed Victor and Mariabell to the parking lot, the cool evening air a refreshing contrast to the stuffy airport.
Victor led us to a sleek black car, the familiar perched on his shoulder like an ominous sentinel."My grandfather’s car," he explained briefly as he unlocked it. "He insisted I use it for this... errand."He hesitated before opening the passenger door for Mariabell, glancing uncertainly at and Aisha. "You two can sit in the back," he said finally, gesturing vaguely to the rear seats.
I leaned back against the plush seat, humming thoughtfully as Victor dodged my question. The tension in the car was palpable, and I couldn’t help but wonder what other secrets he was hiding. Suddenly, Mariabell’s curious voice broke through the silence."Umm, Your na is Aisha, right?" she asked, turning slightly in her seat to look at my wife.
"Aren’t you the Saintess of Justice from the Church?"Aisha blinked in surprise at the sudden recognition. "Yes," she confird with a slight nod. "That’s correct."Victor’s eyes widened in disbelief as he glanced between Aisha and in the rearview mirror."No way," he muttered, shaking his head. "My best friend scored with a bigshot like her?" He sounded genuinely amazed and a bit jealous. "How did you even et?"He seed to realize he’d spoken without thinking and quickly added,"Not that it’s any of my business or anything!"
I responded to Victor’s question with a bored, matter-of-fact tone. "I defiled her purity," I stated bluntly,"by kissing her and saving her."Aisha’s face flushed a deep red at my casual revelation, and she quickly pressed her sandal down on my foot in annoyance and embarrassnt. "Valerian!" she hissed quietly, glaring at .
But Victor’s eyes widened even further, his jaw dropping in shock. "You what?" he exclaid loudly, nearly swerving the car. "How did that even happen?"He looked at Aisha sympathetically. "I’m so sorry you had to go through that!" Then he turned back to , a mix of awe and disbelief on his face. "And the church demanded you marry her? Wow..."He shook his head slowly. "Only you could get into a ss like that, Valerian."
I let out a tired sigh and muttered,"That’s not even the tip of the iceberg." I pointed my finger towards Aisha, adding,"In fact, this one is the sixth one. Before her, I had to marry five other won from five different races."Victor stared at in utter disbelief, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water."Five... five others?" he stamred.
"What races? Who were they?"He glanced at Aisha nervously, as if suddenly realizing the gravity of the situation."And how did you even manage to marry all those won?"He shook his head slowly, trying to process this new information. "Valerian, you’re insane," he said finally, his voice filled with a mix of admiration and envy."I can’t believe you’ve been keeping all this from ."
Victor’s sudden realization hung heavy in the air. "Wait," he muttered, his eyes widening as he glanced at in the rearview mirror.
"By Druid!"He shuddered visibly, and I felt a bead of sweat trickle down my forehead as I rembered Victor’s infamous weakness for elves. His glare intensified, boring into with an accusatory stare.
"Son of a bitch," he exclaid, his voice rising with a mix of anger and envy. "You got married to an elf?"He slamd his hand against the steering wheel, making Mariabell jump in her seat.
