Footsteps were swiftly closing in, and there was no ti left for contemplation. Yun Ya said in a cold voice, "Put up there, I can climb down by myself."

As Yuesheng was told, he lifted Yun Ya high above his head. Yun Ya grabbed the long spikes on top of the iron gate with her hands, flipped her small body over, and was about to slide down along the railing. However, she overestimated herself. The sharp pain tore through her delicate hands, and in a mont of instability, she nearly fell to the ground...

The next mont, she found herself falling into a cool and slightly warm embrace, mixed with the fresh fragrance of green leaves and soap pods, which gently entered Yun Ya’s nostrils.

She was stunned for a mont, this scent...

A familiar feeling from deep within her mory brought a sourness to her nose. Yuesheng agilely climbed down, and upon seeing the newcor, he imdiately exclaid in surprise, "Brother Han?"

The young man felt the small fra in his arms was light as a feather, much like a kitten, instantly softening his heart. He glanced at the girl who had buried her face in his shoulder, looking very soft and docile.

A crisp yet firm voice rang in his ear, as clear and definitive as a bright moon, "We split up, you take the right path, and I’ll shake off the people behind us. We’ll et at the usual place."

Yuesheng glanced at the girl in his arms who now seed very quiet, "What about her? Should we just leave her here? Maybe the guards won’t chase us if they find her."

The youth frowned, seemingly reluctant to let go, "You’re too naive. Even if the guards don’t chase us, the police won’t let us go. Don’t worry about the rest, just go ahead and leave first."

Ashad, Yuesheng hung his head, "Brother Han, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault that you’re involved."

"Now’s not the ti for that. They’re about to catch up, you need to go now."

Yuesheng looked up at the young man, a determined fla flickering in his eyes. Finally, without a word, he turned and ran towards the right-hand path, his agile figure quickly disappearing into the night.

The young man surveyed the pursuers closing in, draped the jacket slung under his arm over Yun Ya, and sped away with her towards the left-hand exit.

Yun Ya’s heart was anything but calm, Pei Qinghan...

She whispered the na in her heart, not expecting to et him so early in this life.

She owed him too much in her past life; this ti, she didn’t want to owe him anything.

"You can put down now." The girl’s muffled voice ca through.

The young man didn’t stop his pace, saying flatly, "Don’t talk, I won’t hurt you."

"It’s I who doesn’t want to hurt you."

The following words caused the young man to slow down. Stepping over the underbrush, he ducked into a corner and leaned against the wall, with the dim yellow light of a street lamp casting a glow on the ground at their feet.

"What do you an?"

"With , you won’t be able to escape. Let go, and I’ll pretend none of this ever happened."

The girl’s voice was very sweet, softly llow as if whispering, touching the heart directly, yet the calm mixed within that voice made him subconsciously turn to look.

Chestnut hair cascaded over her shoulders, like lushly growing seaweed, soft to the touch, with a colorful butterfly resting by her ear, its wings fluttering slightly, casting a radiant glow in the dim corner, causing a slight dizziness in him.

However, there was no ti for reflection as the murky darkness brought a stealthy killer intent. Pei Qinghan’s gaze sharpened as he held Yun Ya and swiftly dodged to the side, retreating from the corner just as the shadow lunged, missing. The figure quickly turned, a pair of eyes gleaming cruelly like a hawk in the darkness.

"I only want the little girl in your arms. Let her go, and I’ll spare your life," ca a hoarse and unpleasant male voice, like a cold, ruthless wolf in the darkness.

Pei Qinghan instinctively tightened his hold on the girl within his embrace. He seed to understand sothing; reason told him he should put the girl down and leave, but then her fate...

Almost without hesitation, he turned and ran with Yun Ya in his arms.

The man in black cursed under his breath and took off after them.

Yun Ya sighed inwardly. She knew Pei Qinghan’s character well; he appeared gentle and warm to everyone, like a polished jade, but deep down he was extrely indifferent and aloof. How could he possibly offer a helping hand to a stranger he just t, let alone to her, who couldn’t even be considered a stranger to him...

In this life, it seed she was destined to owe him once more.

Yun Ya wrapped her small hands around his neck, poking her head out from his shoulder, and looked back at the man in black quickly catching up. A cold light flickered in the depths of her eyes.

As the pursuer got closer, they ran out of the residential area. Pei Qinghan didn’t turn towards the vegetable market but ran to the right, towards a construction site. The site was under construction and had just been rained on. There was no work at night, so the entire site was enveloped in darkness.
