"Why were you on Planet B36?"
The fundantal issue was this: aside from a few photos provided by Planet B36, there was no trace of them.
Having already decided to be completely honest, Zoe Pierce wasn’t about to hold back. "I went to Planet B36 because I was looking for soone."
The Alpha fixed her with a sharp gaze. "Who were you looking for?"
"A Beta. His na is Arthur White." Zoe Pierce paused. "He also goes by another na, Wesley White."
"What is this Beta’s identity?"
Zoe Pierce replied slowly, "A rchant who deals in Energy Mines. He’s been a custor of my family for the past few years."
Zoe Pierce’s background had long since been thoroughly investigated; everyone knew who her family was.
"I have amnesia, but I’ve seen flashes of him in my mind. My parents died in a mining accident. My gland was damaged, and my mories still haven’t returned. I want to know if he had anything to do with that accident."
Zoe Pierce’s dical records had already been printed out and set aside. The Beta assistant promptly handed the file to him.
He glanced at it and knew Zoe Pierce wasn’t lying.
"But the official report concluded it was an accidental mining accident caused by structural imbalance and decay. It has no direct connection to Wesley White, and there’s no evidence proving he caused it."
Zoe Pierce simply watched him quietly. "Yes. But my teammate’s investigation uncovered sothing strange about him."
The information Chase Shaw had dug up was now sitting in front of the interrogator.
"I find it hard to believe that such a suspicious person would coincidentally be on the sa planet as the mining accident and have absolutely nothing to do with it."
’Her logic is sound,’ the interrogator sighed to himself. He hadn’t expected Zoe Pierce to handle the questioning so calmly, without a hint of fear.
"After the exam, Teacher Quinn felt we needed to consolidate our skills, so my teammates, at my suggestion, decided to go with to Siren Star."
"After accepting a mission from the military, we t an Alpha who was from Planet B36." Zoe Pierce didn’t know what Julian Chambers’s current situation was, so she didn’t use his na, only vaguely describing his role.
She continued, "So we hired him as our guide to Planet B36. During that ti, we noticed so abnormal data about the planet."
The interrogator interrupted her. "What data?"
Zoe Pierce gestured to the data sheet the Beta had just handed him. "The immigration data for Alphas and Ogas on Planet B36 is abnormal. The numbers are too high."
"The Alpha we hired also told us that he had been bullied on Planet B36 because of his gender, a phenonon he said was widespread among Alphas and Ogas."
"He also explained that, in recent years, Planet B36 has imported a large quantity of Energy Mine that wasn’t declared on official reports."
The interrogator couldn’t help but feel that everything was intricately connected.
"So, we suspected Planet B36 was hiding sothing and decided to investigate."
Zoe Pierce’s story was flawless. The interrogator didn’t interrupt, letting her continue. "We used Nathan Lockwood’s spiritual power, Erin Xavier’s intuition, and the Alpha from Planet B36’s knowledge of the terrain to evade surveillance."
"After that, we saw a hospital built deep in the mountain range, filled with dying Betas."
She briefly recounted what happened next.
The interrogator asked in surprise, "You’re saying you followed Miles Sherman and the others the whole ti, crossing the mountain range on foot, to get near their research center?"
Zoe Pierce didn’t understand his reaction. A flicker of confusion crossed her eyes before she answered without hesitation, "Yes."
The interrogator was an Alpha. Though not in the military, he still relied on the soothing presence of Ogas in his daily life.
He was shocked at Zoe Pierce’s physical strength and perseverance.
She, however, didn’t seem to think it was any great feat; she was simply stating the facts.
He paused, then asked, "So did you find Arthur White?"
The matter of the Energy Mine had now been confird. It was proven that Planet B36 had illegally procured a large quantity of Energy Mine without filing the proper requisitions.
The main reason was that this particular Energy Mine wasn’t a highly destructive type of ore, so no one paid it much mind initially. As ti went on, the process grew corrupt, and eventually, it was all but forgotten.
Hearing the question, Zoe Pierce lowered her gaze. "No."
Arthur White was like a soap bubble. Just when Zoe Pierce thought she had him in her grasp, he popped, leaving her with a sticky, empty hand.
Her spirits visibly sank.
It was understandable. Anyone who had gone to such lengths, believing they were on the verge of finding the truth, would be devastated to co away empty-handed.
And she was just an Oga, barely in her early twenties.
She had already accomplished what most Ogas could not: calmly and clearly analyzing a situation, identifying a goal, and then seeing it through.
Before this conversation, none of the investigators had suspected that Zoe Pierce and her team had been planning this ever since their trip to Siren Star.
The rest of the questioning covered things everyone already knew: that Zoe Pierce hadn’t gone on the final mission, and had only been responsible for soothing the team.
The interrogation ended. Zoe Pierce stood up.
The Beta assistant remained seated, gathering and organizing the data sheets. The interrogator stood up as well and glanced toward the door as it opened, revealing a figure waiting outside.
Zoe Pierce took two steps, then suddenly seed to think of sothing.
Turning back, she gave a slight bow toward the two n in the room.
She didn’t say a word, but her bearing was perfectly composed and respectful.
The interrogator, already moved by the clear-headed Oga during their session, couldn’t help but remark to his assistant, "Zoe Pierce is so young, yet so thoughtful and composed."
Thinking of her deceased parents, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy.
’If her parents could see their daughter now, their hearts would break. Crossing interstellar space for the sake of a so-called truth...’
So pitiful, yet so endearing.
"I can see why Zoe Pierce is so well-known," he said, shaking his head. Even he, an Alpha many years her senior, was filled with admiration.
The Beta finished tidying the docunts, stood up, and smiled as well. "Would you call this the ’beautiful, strong, and tragic’ trope from novels?"
The interrogator hadn’t expected that description. While a bit frivolous, it was an incredibly apt description of Zoe Pierce.
More than that, they admired her resilience.
She had encountered one terrible thing after another, yet she showed no sign of giving up. Instead, she always did her absolute best, never complaining, and silently shouldered it all.
"I’ll go file the docunts then," the Beta said with a smile. After bidding the interrogator farewell, he too left the room.
But once he was out of the interrogation room, his smile faded.
Taking out his Intelligent Brain, he sent a ssage in less than five seconds.
