Chapter 1588: Chapter 1588: Yu Chenghua Seeks Help_1

Hearing the hodgepodge of gossip, Dou Yun’s face flushed red, but she had already resigned herself to a broken situation, so she didn’t care what these people were saying. Covering her face, she started to wail, and amidst her crying, she said, “We are at the rcy of others, so it’s our fault that people talk behind our backs, it’s our fault that my reputation has been destroyed, it’s our fate that my parents, after serving the Jiang Family for decades, were thrown out like trash? I always treated the Jiang Family mbers as kin, yet they keep saying my mother wanted to marry off to the top scholar, constantly reminding of my rejection. How am I to ever hold my head high in this lifeti?”

Sobbing as if pear blossoms bathed in the rain, she continued, “I don’t care if I can’t hold my head high, I might as well shave my head and beco a nun, but my elderly parents were thrown onto the streets. Since I no longer hope to marry, if I can gain justice for my parents, even if it costs my life here, I’m willing.”

After she spoke these words, many of the previously whispering people fell silent. In Danliang Country, filial piety is highly regarded, and Dou Yun’s words appeared to be extrely filial, naturally earning her the sympathy of the onlookers.

“Cousin, you are wrong.” Bai Ruozhu said calmly. “If you were truly filial and dutiful, you would persuade your parents to return ho and live well, to dedicate yourself to filial piety and taking care of your two younger brothers, instead of making a bigger scene. Besides, if you were to die, that would be the true act of unfilial conduct—how could sending white-haired parents to mourn a black-haired child be considered filial?”

“Furthermore,” she continued, “since the separation, the Jiang Family has divided the family assets with you Dou Family mbers, which is already beyond duty and righteousness. You should plan your own livelihood instead of always thinking of freeloading off the Jiang Family. People should not always expect to reap without sowing.”

“You—you’re slandering us! My parents are not like that. Real estate in the Capital is worth its weight in gold. With you expelling us, how could we not struggle?” retorted Dou Yun.

Bai Ruozhu scoffed, “Even ordinary citizens in the Capital don’t starve to death, much less you, who received your share of the Jiang Family’s assets. You can always rent a house. But if you don’t engage in business, whom can you bla?”

Dou Yun noticed the crowd’s gaze shifting, and gritting her teeth, said, “Cousin-in-law is just trying to sar my parents’ reputations. To uphold my parents’ honor, I have no choice but to die to prove my resolve!”

Just after she finished speaking, she suddenly threw herself towards the gatepost. The onlookers couldn’t help but cry out in shock, but they soon breathed a sigh of relief as there was no scene of bloodshed; Dou Yun hadn’t actually slamd into the gatepost but was stopped by Muyu, who was standing behind her.

Muyu’s expression was utterly gloomy. Why did he always have to deal with these situations? Did his mistress think he had a thicker skin?Wasn’t he known for being a shy young man?

“The cousin is agitated. Muyu, take her back and let’s not treat her own life lightly. Moreover, today is a day of great joy for the Yu Residence and we cannot have any more disturbances,” Bai Ruozhu signaled Muyu with her eyes.

Muyu understood and, tapping Dou Yun’s mute point, led her away into the distance.

Seeing the supposedly suicidal young woman being led away, the crowd lost interest in the spectacle and dispersed.

Once Bai Ruozhu returned to the yard, she narrated the outside events, unable to help but laugh, “She was just trying to frighten people. She put a belt around her neck while standing with her feet firmly on the ground—how was that an attempt at suicide?”

Did she think she had extraordinary abdominal strength?

Yu Chenghua breathed a sigh of relief, stood up, and bowed to Bai Ruozhu, “I’m grateful to you, sister-in-law, for your help today. It was troubling for you.”

Bai Ruozhu waved it off with a smile, “No need to thank ; what are you doing still standing there? Go to the bridal chamber!”

Those left drinking made a ruckus, shouting about making mischiefs in the bridal chamber. Suddenly, Jiang Yichun’s expression turned serious and he said, “Are you looking for a beating? Disperse, all of you. Don’t disturb Yu Chenghua’s wedding night!”

Realizing their mistake—they had ant to tease Yu Chenghua, but the bride was the matron of the Jiang Family mbers—everyone sheepishly teased Yu Chenghua with a few words, such as triumphantly achieving one’s purpose or wishing for an early birth of a noble son, and then they all left the Yu Residence.

Bai Ruozhu also offered a few comforting words to Jiang Zhihe, then bid her and Jiang Yichun farewell.

Having returned ho, Jiang Yichun suddenly grabbed Bai Ruozhu’s waist and hugged her tightly, sporting a mischievous grin as he said, “Shall we consummate our marriage too?”

Bai Ruozhu felt a bit dizzy from the alcohol on his breath and glared at him, saying, “You’re drunk.”

“Drunk? Do you want to prove it to you?” No sooner had he finished speaking than his kiss descended upon her, and only when Bai Ruozhu was pushed down did she realize how he intended to prove it.

A single spring night was worth a thousand pieces of gold, and the next day Jiang Yichun left for court early in the morning, clearheaded and in high spirits. In contrast, Bai Ruozhu, sore in the waist and back, soaked herself in the Spatial Hot Spring, regaining her spirit before joining her son and parents for breakfast, and then she headed to the Female Physicians Institution.

By midday, when the morning court had been dismissed, Yu Chenghua unexpectedly showed up at the Female Physicians Institution.

Bai Ruozhu, seeing him, was stunned and asked, “Don’t you have three days of wedding leave? Why did you attend court?”

Yu Chenghua, face flushed with embarrassnt, bowed to her and said, “Sister-in-law, I ca especially to find you.”

Bai Ruozhu was puzzled as to why Yu Chenghua would be looking for her instead of speaking with Jiang Yichun about his matters.

However, seeing the difficulty on Yu Chenghua’s face, she took him outside to a quiet place and asked, “What’s the matter?”

Yu Chenghua turned red with sha and said guiltily, “Last night at midnight, Dou Yun tried to hang herself again in a suicide attempt.”

“What?” Bai Ruozhu exclaid, drawing the attention of eunuchs nearby who busied themselves about the Imperial dical Hospital. She had to lower her voice, inwardly cursing Muyu for being so foolish; couldn’t she have knocked Dou Yun unconscious to prevent her from waking? How could she have let Dou Yun ruin Jiang Zhihe’s wedding night?

She should have sent soone to keep watch at the Yu Residence for the night, but according to the customs of Danliang Country, it was inappropriate for the bride’s family to stay during the newlyweds’ first night, as it would imply distrust of the groom and be laughable if known, embarrassing Yu Chenghua.

Both she and Jiang Yichun thought highly of Yu Chenghua’s character, naturally not wanting to make him uncomfortable in this respect, yet how could Dou Yun have the face to create another scene?

She steadied herself and asked, “And then what happened?”

“She nearly died hanging; if we hadn’t rescued her in ti, I’m afraid she would have suffocated,” Yu Chenghua said, forcing himself to continue.

Apparently, Dou Yun had indeed resolved to make trouble for Jiang Zhihe. She found a hemp rope and even moved a stool by herself to the Main Gate of the Yu Residence, stepping upon it to tie the rope. This ti, she didn’t make a fuss; she simply dropped herself off the stool, kicking it away.

It was the sound of the stool falling and hitting the door that drew the attention of the gatekeeper, Zao Bo. He opened the door to investigate and saw Dou Yun hanging above, her face purple under the moonlight, frightening him so much he almost wet himself. Luckily, he saw Dou Yun kicking and struggling, so he quickly grabbed her legs and shouted into the Yard, “Soone co quick, Miss is hanging herself and about to die!”

Yu Chenghua and Jiang Zhihe, who were still in their wedding chamber, initially shy, were jolted by the commotion. Yu Chenghua was angry and didn’t want to look, but Jiang Zhihe, sensing sothing was amiss, hastily donned an outer garnt to go outside. Yu Chenghua reluctantly followed, and before they reached the Main Gate, they saw Dou Yun hanging with her tongue already sticking out…

What do you think happened next? Mouka believes none of you can guess, and if by chance soone does, please keep it to yourself~
