Chapter 1606: Chapter 1606: How Could One Truly Hate the Other?

Once they were far from the main house, Bai Ruozhu finally spoke, “Can you co back earlier tonight? I’ll cook a couple of dishes, and we can have a drink together?”

Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but laugh, but rembering he needed to seriously reprimand her, he hurriedly put on a stern face. Unfortunately, Bai Ruozhu had seen everything, and she secretly smiled, choosing not to expose it, knowing he wasn’t really upset with her.

“Dad, why does your face keep changing? Who made you unhappy?” Little Dengdeng asked, looking puzzled.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t hold it anymore and accidentally burst out laughing. Soone was trying to act serious, but his son had exposed him—what’s commonly known as “kidding the dad.”

Jiang Yichun’s expression was a bit awkward, and he gave a dry cough, saying, “Dad has to go get busy first, we’ll talk tonight.”

After speaking, he seed to want to slip away like he was fleeing from disaster. Bai Ruozhu called from behind, “You haven’t answered my question yet; is it okay or not?”

Without turning back, he said, “It’s not!”

Bai Ruozhu’s face instantly fell. This guy, how could he!

“Two dishes aren’t enough; at least make it three!” His voice echoed back. Annoyed, she looked up, only to see him duck quickly out the main gate. Wow, that speed was like escaping for his life.

But Bai Ruozhu sohow felt that just by looking at his back, he was probably laughing so hard inside.

Annoying guy, clearly happy inside, yet he has to tease her. Too much!

Thinking this, she couldn’t help but smile as she took Little Dengdeng’s hand and said, “Let’s go back to the yard for a nap. Once we’re all awake, let’s help mom cook so dishes for dad, okay?”

Little Dengdeng got excited, “Okay, okay, can I make those shrimp chips?”

“Sure.” Bai Ruozhu smiled and tapped her son’s little head, “It’s really you who likes to eat them, isn’t it?”

Little Dengdeng giggled.

Bai Ruozhu’s shrimp chips were different from the ones usually made by common households at that ti. She made them based on the Thai cuisine shrimp chips she loved in her past life. Crispy and tasty, but they couldn’t be eaten too much as they tend to trigger heatiness, so she wouldn’t let Little Dengdeng have them often. As a result, the little one would always think about them.

In the evening, while Bai Ruozhu was preparing food with her son in their little yard, her second brother suddenly showed up.

“Why the special al with brother-in-law tonight?” Bai Zepei teased, seemingly in good spirits after having co to terms with everything. His jokes were more relaxed now.

Bai Ruozhu replied, a bit embarrassed, “Oh, it’s not that. He’s been busy lately, always coming back to leftover als or simply going hungry, so I’m making a few dishes just for him.”

“No need to explain, I wasn’t poking fun at you. Tang Feng returned from Jiangnan today. He said he’d invite us for a get-together at Yinke Lai the day after tomorrow at noon. Originally it was for tomorrow, but I told him you might want to arrange a return visit for Jiang Yichun’s cousin, so he shifted it to the day after.” Bai Zepei explained.

Bai Ruozhu was a bit surprised, “Why did he specifically invite ?”

Bai Zepei laughed, “He considers you a friend, I suppose.”

Hearing this, Bai Ruozhu felt more at ease. They were from the sa hotown, both transmigrators, not that familiar, but definitely friends.

“Okay, then let’s go together the day after tomorrow at noon. I was planning to visit the Female Physicians Institution in the morning; I can probably et you at the palace, right?” Bai Ruozhu asked with a smile.

“I’ll co to find you at the Female Physicians Institution once I’m done,” Bai Zepei said.

Having settled their plans, Bai Zepei took his leave, and soon after, Jiang Yichun returned to their small yard, looking a bit embarrassed yet excited, “I just ran into Second Brother on the way. He said you’re making extra food for and that you’re concerned about . Did you really tell him that?”

Wasn’t it supposed to be a cold war? Why ask so directly?

Bai Ruozhu wanted to deny it, but after thinking that it was a pleasant misunderstanding, she smiled and asked, “What do you think?”

Imdiately, Jiang Yichun brightened up. Though his face wasn’t smiling, the joy in his eyes was unmistakable.

Soon Bai Ruozhu had the dishes on the table, and Jiang Yichun, carrying their son, helped set the cutlery. The three of them enjoyed the al without servants, just like an ordinary family, cooking themselves and setting the table, which created a warm atmosphere.

With Dengdeng present, they didn’t say much during the al, but they did put food on each other’s plates, which was a silent gesture of truce, wasn’t it?

Dengdeng mimicked the adults by giving his parents food, but his little arms were too short, and a piece of at fell onto his dad’s clothes, making his little face blush in a hurry.

Jiang Yichun patted Dengdeng’s little head, “It’s okay, just give Dad another piece.”

This ti he moved his bowl closer to Dengdeng, making sure he securely placed it there, and Dengdeng laughed happily.

Watching the father and son cozying up together ward Bai Ruozhu’s heart, reminding her not to hold grudges with Yichun. They were living their lives, not enemies, and there could be no real hatred between them.

After dinner, the three of them went to the main house to sit for a while. Only when it was late did they return to the yard, handing Dengdeng over to Nanny Zhang to his room, giving the couple uninterrupted ti together.

“Was dinner good?” Bai Ruozhu asked softly, handing him a cloth to wipe his face with.

He took the cloth, but whether intentionally or not, brushed against her hand, and then grabbed it, saying, “The food was good, but don’t think that just two dishes can win over.”

Bai Ruozhu snorted, “Who said it was two dishes? It was actually five dishes and a soup. In this cold weather, my hands got frozen.”

“Where did you freeze them?” He asked nervously, checking her hands only to find no frostbite. Relieved, he scolded softly, “Don’t work yourself in the kitchen during this cold weather. If your hands freeze, they’ll itch and hurt every winter, and you’ll suffer for it.”

Bai Ruozhu proudly, “Hah, you forgot I’m a doctor. My mother had frostbite, and I made her an excellent ointnt that healed her last year. Why would I be afraid of frostbite?”

“Who makes themselves sick just to take dicine? From now on, no more working yourself in the kitchen! Send others to do it for you,” he said, sounding authoritarian yet full of concern.

“Alright, I’ll listen to you,” Bai Ruozhu answered obediently.

Hearing this made Jiang Yichun feel soft inside. When had his Ruozhu been so agreeable? He held her hand tighter, pulling her into his arms.

“I’m tired, wipe my face for .”

Yeah, right. Tired but still holding soone so tightly?

This thought passed through Bai Ruozhu’s mind, but she kept it to herself. She began wiping his face with the damp cloth, and doing so, found she couldn’t look away…
