"Foster father, you..." Bai Ruozhu wanted to say a few comforting words, but found her words too weak and inadequate to console ng Liangshen at this mont. Moreover, she really had no energy left.
"You’re still pregnant, you should rest quickly. Otherwise, should I arrange a room for you?" ng Liangshen asked.
Bai Ruozhu shook her head, "These three days are a matter of life and death; I’ll sleep on the soft lounge. Or you could have soone tidy up the ear room nearby, and arrange a room nearby for my son and the nanny. I’m a doctor, saving lives is what matters; I won’t worry about the norms separating n and won."
"Alright, alright." ng Liangshen said and saw Bai Ruozhu imdiately collapse onto the soft lounge, falling asleep deeply.
He noticed Bai Ruozhu’s face was completely devoid of color, feeling very nervous; he hurried out to discuss it and asked Nanny Zhang whether they should call a doctor for Bai Ruozhu.
"The madam knows well, Lord ng can rest assured. Just prepare easily digestible als for when the madam wakes up." Nanny Zhang said, noting that calling a doctor at this ti might disturb Bai Ruozhu’s rest.
"Alright." ng Liangshen imdiately issued the orders.
Madam ng hurried into the room to check, only to find her eldest grandson wrapped like a dumpling and her god-granddaughter asleep next to him with an equally pale face. She couldn’t help but shed tears again.
"It’s a sin, how did such good children end up like this?" she muttered and then turned to ng Liangshen, "Imdiately send people to investigate this. The ng Family is not to be bullied lightly!"
Flas of anger burned in ng Liangshen’s eyes, and through gritted teeth, he said, "Mother, don’t worry, I will get to the bottom of this!"
Madam ng hurriedly made a shushing gesture and looked at Bai Ruozhu, saying, "Speak outside, don’t wake up the girl Ruozhu. She helped us once again."
When she saw Xu Huilin, she thought there was no hope, but she dared not say it.
The steward of the ng Residence made the arrangents, placing Nanny Zhang and Little Dengdeng in the nearby room. The two Bai brothers were also placed temporarily in another room. Bai Zehao and Bai Zepei stayed in the yard, sympathizing with Xu Huilin on one hand, and being more worried about their pregnant little sister on the other.
Partway through, a servant handed the cooked decoction to ng Liangshen, but he was at a loss as to how to feed it to his eldest son.
Soone brought over a bamboo tube, but the decoction quickly poured out, unable to enter Xu Huilin’s stomach, which worried ng Liangshen badly.
In the end, he had to go wake Bai Ruozhu, not expecting Bai Zepei to get angry all of a sudden.
"Ruozhu is just pregnant, and after all the travel, her body can’t withstand the strain; she barely managed to sleep a little, don’t disturb her!"
Bai Zehao added, "Yes, she said to call her after two hours, just wait patiently for two hours."
For the sake of their sister, neither cared whether ng Liangshen was so city lord; they couldn’t rescue soone else’s son and let sothing happen to their own sister.
ng Liangshen could only think of solutions himself, resulting in wasting half the dicine with little getting into Xu Huilin.
He had to have more prepared, estimating that Bai Ruozhu should be waking soon, then he could consult her.
Finally, after two hours, ng Liangshen went to call Bai Ruozhu, but she opened her eyes on her own, eting ng Liangshen’s surprised gaze. Bai Ruozhu slightly curled her lips and said, "With so many matters in mind, it’s hard to sleep soundly."
Though she had fallen into a deep sleep before, she naturally awakened after two hours as she had said, sothing only possible with pressing matters on her mind.
ng Liangshen felt more grateful, realizing how deeply Bai Ruozhu cared about Xu Huilin’s case.
"Sorry to trouble you, Huilin can’t take the dicine; can you see what to do?" ng Liangshen asked.
"No problem, leave it to ." Bai Ruozhu said, then quickly administered needles to Xu Huilin, and soon fine silver needles were placed in his chest and on the top of his head.
Suddenly, ng Liangshen noticed Xu Huilin’s eyelids twitch slightly. He almost exclaid but swallowed it back, afraid to disturb Bai Ruozhu.
Slowly Xu Huilin’s eyes opened, though he was very weak. Bai Ruozhu hurriedly asked ng Liangshen to prop him up and fed him dicine by spoonfuls.
"I know you want to live on, so swallow all the dicine!" Bai Ruozhu’s tone was sowhat stern, as if allowing no dissent, and groggily Xu Huilin indeed swallowed the dicine spoon by spoon.
Bai Ruozhu felt a pang in her nose; Senior Fox wanted to live. No matter how optimistic he was, he still wanted to survive with all his efforts despite the difficulties.
The dicine-feeding went smoothly. After feeding, Bai Ruozhu tucked so ginseng slices into his mouth, then removed the silver needles one by one.
"I’ll rest a bit more. Have soone keep an eye on his condition. Wake imdiately if he has fever; if all is well, wake in another two hours." Bai Ruozhu said weaker and weaker, sounding almost like a mosquito buzzing, but fortunately, ng Liangshen, being skilled in martial arts, had acute hearing and could hear her clearly.
She laid back to sleep again, while on the other side, Xu Huilin also fell back into a coma, as if he hadn’t awoken at all, though ng Liangshen observed closely and noticed that his wounds had stopped bleeding.
However, both of his arms were gone...
ng Liangshen couldn’t help shedding tears again. He felt deepest remorse for this son; thinking he could make it up to this son, only to see him end up like this today.
All night, Bai Ruozhu got up repeatedly, each ti checking Xu Huilin’s condition, administering another set of needles before fainting again. Seeing her state, she seed to have no strength to leave the room, but strangely, every ti at the ntioned hour, she would wake up by herself without needing to be called to continue treating Xu Huilin.
Thankfully the night passed, and Xu Huilin didn’t develop a fever, which was a blessing in disguise.
By the next noon, Xu Huilin finally woke up by himself, though his eyes were still blurry and his mind not entirely clear.
"Lin’er, how are you feeling? Any discomfort?" Madam ng, who had been watching nearby since early morning, rushed over and asked him urgently.
Upon his waking, ng Liangshen imdiately followed through with past instructions and called Bai Ruozhu. Bai Ruozhu quickly rushed to his bedside, swiftly placing a ginseng slice under his tongue and administering another set of needles.
Xu Huilin’s face was deathly pale, and as if speaking nonsense, he hoarsely said, "Didn’t...didn’t expect... you’d do this... to ..."
Everyone pricked up their ears; the "you" in his words was surely the person who hard him.
"You took ... as a disciple just to... use ..."
ng Liangshen jumped up, "It’s Wu Yunfeng! Imdiately send people to arrest Wu Yunfeng and his cohorts; those who resist will be executed without rcy!"
On the other side, Xu Huilin’s breathing suddenly beca labored, "Father...hurry, leave...beware of a trap..."
ng Liangshen’s tears fell once more. He finally understood why his eldest son struggled to escape back; his son feared he might be hard by traitors.
