"The child...ren?" Jiang Yichun appeared pleasantly surprised, "Twins?"
Bai Ruozhu smiled with her lips closed, "Yes, twins, it’s already confird."
Jiang Yichun, excited, wanted to pick her up, rushed over but was afraid of bumping into her, montarily at a loss, just like a silly child, even Little Dengdeng covered his mouth and laughed from the side.
Bai Ruozhu blushed and gave him a playful look, saying, "Wash up first, then have a good rest, you look so much thinner."
"Then you can fatten up." He replied with a cheeky grin.
Jiang Yichun went to take a bath, and Little Dengdeng even helped scrub his father’s back, discovering lots of wounds, touched them with his little hands and said, "Dad, your back looks like creepy crawlies, so ugly!"
"Haha, you little rascal, a man without so scars is not a man! You’ll understand when you grow up." Jiang Yichun laughed heartily.
Bai Ruozhu glanced over, seeing they were all old wounds, she finally felt relieved.
Little Dengdeng pouted and said, "I’m already grown up, Dad, you’re looking down on !"
This ti Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun both laughed together, the little kid sure had so pride and knew what it ant to be looked down on.
After Jiang Yichun finished bathing, Little Dengdeng also dozed off, unwilling to go back to his own room and fell asleep directly on the bed in Bai Ruozhu’s room.
Bai Ruozhu helped Jiang Yichun dry his hair, saying with heartache, "Look at you, you’ve lost so much weight, and your hair isn’t in good condition either, you must have suffered a lot along the way."
Jiang Yichun grabbed her hand, "It’s nothing, just that my palate got spoiled by you, and I’m not used to food from outside. It’s you who’s been through hard work with two kids in you these days."
"It’s alright, just that a lot of things happened, and I kept a lot to myself, didn’t want to tell dad and mom for fear of worrying them, and also..." Bai Ruozhu wanted to ntion Xu Huilin but feared it would upset him, knowing despite their bickering, they had a good relationship privately.
"What is it?" Jiang Yichun turned his head to look at her.
"The emperor was poisoned with ********." Bai Ruozhu simply switched to another topic, deciding to bring up Xu Huilin’s matter after he rested a bit.
"What’s going on?" Jiang Yichun frowned slightly.
Bai Ruozhu slowly began to explain, he simply leaned on the side of the bed, letting her work on his hair while listening to the happenings of late, seldom receiving such privileges, he felt truly fortunate.
"Later on, the emperor asked to see Consort Le, and Eunuch Wang reminded of her poor mood, I..." Bai Ruozhu was narrating and suddenly looked at him only to find he had already fallen asleep.
He looked exhausted, certainly hastily rushing back upon learning of her being attacked.
She laid him down completely, draped a light quilt over him, then sat by the bedside looking at the two most beloved people in her life, her heart filled.
Little Dengdeng woke up after two hours, being sensible enough not to wake his dad, while Jiang Yichun slept until dinner, having missed lunch.
"You must be hungry, right? Let’s go to the front yard to eat, dad and mom are still waiting to talk to you." Bai Ruozhu said as she saw him awake, handing him a clean robe.
Now that he was clean and had rested, he felt much better, though still noticeably thinner.
Bai Yihong and the others greeted Jiang Yichun with smiles, asking about his journey.
Jiang Yichun responded to each inquiry with a smile.
"When I arrived in Luohe City and was planning to buy supplies before boarding the ship, I saw a female beggar by the roadside who looked familiar, it turned out to be Ruolan. She probably suffered a lot, didn’t cause much trouble along the way, just very afraid of people." Jiang Yichun frowned slightly, unwilling to ntion how Bai Ruolan clung to his sleeve hiding behind him, as it felt wrong to say so.
"Luckily, Heaven favored you and you happened to bump into her." Zhang Liliang said from the side, still bearing a hint of guilt in his eyes.
"Later on the road, my mother contracted a strange illness, and I didn’t know how to treat it, secretly consulting many doctors and trying several decoctions to no avail. That delayed things quite a bit, and shortly after the water route ended, Ruolan ran away again."
"What?" Bai Yihong exclaid, feeling helpless as he said, "How co this girl just won’t stay put?"
"Dad, it’s alright, we found her soon after, it just cost us a two-day delay." Jiang Yichun said.
Bai Ruozhu, listening from the side, also felt helpless, wondering what was going on with Ruolan, why she kept trying to run away? If they hadn’t found her, a girl alone out there might face more than just begging.
Jiang Yichun found it hard to comnt further, after all, she was his Ruozhu’s cousin and her situation was pitiable.
"Did you visit the Guest Palace to see the emperor?" Bai Zepei suddenly asked.
"I’ll go first thing in the morning." Jiang Yichun replied.
Bai Zepei nodded, a hint of worry in his expression, which Bai Ruozhu noticed, wondering if there was trouble at the palace again.
The family had a lively al together, and when they returned to their room, Jiang Yichun gently embraced his wife.
The feeling of having sothing to see but not to eat was tough, especially since he had been abstinent for so long.
He gently wrapped his arms around her from behind, kissing down to her ear, his hot breath tickling her, making her feel weak all over.
"No, they’re twins, we need to be especially careful." Bai Ruozhu’s voice was as quiet as a mosquito, knowing that rejecting him now was cruel, and besides, she wanted it too, but as a mother, her children ca first.
"I know, I just want to kiss you." His low hoarse voice bore a hint of restraint, making Bai Ruozhu feel sorry for him again.
Turning to et his dark eyes, she blushed and said, "Otherwise, how about I help you?"
"Truly my wife cares for ." Jiang Yichun’s eyes lit up, almost leaping up with excitent.
Although he still felt unsatisfied afterwards, he knew his woman was carrying twins, thus she shouldn’t be too exhausted, and it’s better not to burden her.
Holding his dear wife carefully, he fell asleep, finding solace in being back ho, nowhere compares to being with her.
The next day, Jiang Yichun entered the palace to et the emperor, while Bai Ruozhu woke up late and didn’t have the chance to discuss Xu Huilin’s matter. Speaking of which, Xu Huilin surely knew Jiang Yichun was back, yet didn’t co out to et him. He stayed at the Bai Family, but seldom dined with them; the Bai Family, considerate of his missing arm, avoided obliging him, letting him act as he pleased.
But now Jiang Yichun was back, he really should co out to see him. Or was it that he didn’t want Jiang Yichun to see him like this?
Bai Ruozhu sighed, went to the backyard to find Xu Huilin, and saw him biting down on a brush, painting a tree in the yard.
She quietly approached, observing his painting, not particularly good, so parts were rather stiff, yet conveyed a certain mood.
If he weren’t disabled, he would’ve been a great painter, wouldn’t he?
