Capítulo 2170: Chapter 2168: The Shadowing Follower
“There are no buts, and even if you stay, you must protect my family and children. You’re not just idle; you must take this responsibility,” said Bai Ruozhu.
Morning Breeze could only nod in agreent, “I will protect the madam’s family well.”
Watching Morning Breeze leave, Bai Ruozhu sighed softly. It was ti to say goodbye to that person. She promised to tell him before she left.
The night wind was slightly cool as Bai Ruozhu slowly walked into the Peach Forest. Along the way, she kept thinking about how to tell Fengcheng. What if Fengcheng wants to leave with her, how would she refuse?
Unfortunately, despite all the thoughts, Fengcheng did not appear.
She walked around the Peach Forest but couldn’t find any trace of Fengcheng.
“Fengcheng, I’m leaving. Hope to see you again if we are fated,” she said slowly and then turned to walk out of the Peach Forest.
Perhaps Fengcheng didn’t want to say goodbye to her, so he didn’t co out. Or perhaps Fengcheng was busy and not in the Peach Forest at all. Saying those words was rely fulfilling her promise.
In the distance, a shadow dimd, and Fengcheng hid entirely in the shadows, with a trace of reluctance and pain in his eyes.
The night passed without a word. The next morning, Bai Ruozhu packed her luggage, took Dengdeng, and her subordinates walked toward the valley entrance.
Nanny Zhang was left behind to help take care of Bengbeng and Tiaotiao. For this, she was very reluctant to part with Little Dengdeng, secretly wiping her tears several tis. Little Dengdeng was also very reluctant, tugging at Nanny Zhang’s sleeve, saying, “Nanny, I’ll co back to see you soon. You must help take good care of my younger brothers.”
“Alright, young master, don’t worry,” Nanny Zhang said with eyes filled with loving affection, just like looking at her own grandson.
Many people from the clan ca to see her off. Bai Ruozhu was very grateful and thanked everyone, as she didn’t like farewells. She asked the clan leader to open the seal, and she walked out of the valley.
At this mont, she heard a girl from behind mutter, “What’s there to be proud of? Didn’t her man run away with Fo Lanying? No wonder she can’t stay here.”
Bai Ruozhu turned around sharply, only to see a sea of smiling faces, not the girl who muttered behind her back. The anger in her chest had nowhere to go for the mont.
The voice was small, mixed in with the sounds of farewell from the crowd, and it was extrely difficult to pinpoint its direction. Most people wouldn’t even notice.
The matter between Jiang Yichun and Fo Lanying made her angry and disappointed. However, Jiang Yichun was a discreet person, not making it widely known. He left early that day, not disturbing others—perhaps that person saw it accidentally.
She took a deep breath and let it go. Let others say what they like; if Achun had no good reason, then what people say isn’t wrong. She’s just a woman jilted by a man. Even if she found the person who said it and argued with her, it would only make it public knowledge and cause her family more worry and grief.
She put on a bright smile, as if she had heard nothing, waved to everyone, and said, “Everyone, go back. I’m leaving.”
“Be safe on the road, co back soon!”
“Bon voyage.”
“Take care and look after yourself.”
“…”
Bai Ruozhu left with her subordinates, and Yizi cautiously asked, “Master, what happened just now?”
Ah, this little girl was quite attentive.
“Nothing, I just heard soone bad-mouthing by chance. My ears are very sharp, so don’t bad-mouth in the future. I’ll hear it all, okay?” Bai Ruozhu joked with her, trying to lift her own spirits.
Yizi quickly covered her mouth, “I never said you didn’t pay us much.”
Little Dengdeng giggled, “Sister Yizi, you’re so silly.”
“Young master, don’t bully people,” Yizi pouted. Why did she say that?
“I’m just a child, how can I bully people?” Little Dengdeng retorted.
The two teased each other and joked around. Muyu and Jinglei were also very happy—they knew the madam wouldn’t give up on the master. Jianqi still maintained his cold deanor but looked much more relaxed.
Bai Ruozhu had a faint smile on her face; the journey shouldn’t be lonely.
After leaving the Duanyang City area, Bai Ruozhu said to Jianqi, “You lead the way. Just head towards the Chengshui Capital City.”
“Yes,” Jianqi responded decisively.
Actually, Bai Ruozhu studied the map for a long ti but couldn’t make heads or tails of it. It was better to leave the navigation to the ancient people.
Bai Ruozhu sat in the horse carriage with Dengdeng and Yizi. The journey was not fast but relaxing. Little Dengdeng took a folding fan and mimicked Gao Deng, fanning himself like a little scholar, looking quite comical.
Suddenly, Little Dengdeng tossed his hand, and the folding fan slipped out of the window.
“Ah, my fan!” Little Dengdeng exclaid.
“Mom will get it for you,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile, then jumped out of the carriage, swiftly picked up the fan, and returned to the carriage in a blink of an eye.
“Wow, master, your lightness skills are amazing!” Yizi exclaid excitedly.
Bai Ruozhu handed the fan to Little Dengdeng, smiling, “Hold it carefully this ti. If you throw it out again, it might get damaged.”
“Yes, I’ll be careful,” Little Dengdeng said obediently.
However, Bai Ruozhu’s expression changed instantly. She perked up her ears to listen—yes, soone was following them and had already hidden.
But the person seed harmless; otherwise, there had been plenty of opportunities to make a move.
Who could it be?
A cold, stern face flashed through Bai Ruozhu’s mind. Could it be him?
Could it be Achun? Was he secretly following them?
Bai Ruozhu’s heartstrings trembled, causing her to feel a bit excited.
But the other person intentionally hid; she smiled softly—she had her ways.
“You all keep playing,” Bai Ruozhu made a shushing gesture. Yizi and Dengdeng didn’t know what she intended to do, but they nodded obediently.
Bai Ruozhu sat near the carriage door, carefully listening to the sounds. Indeed, she heard the extrely faint noise again, and her lips curled slightly—let’s see if I can catch you this ti!
She suddenly leaped out of the carriage, astonishingly fast, covering a dozen ters in the blink of an eye, and grabbed the hem of a person’s clothing trying to escape.
She hesitated for a mont—why was it white?
Jiang Yichun never wore white clothes, mostly black, sotis dark blue. Bai Ruozhu had once comnted that if he wore all white, he’d look like an immortal stepping out of a painting.
“I see you. No need to hide,” Bai Ruozhu said coldly, then threw away the torn piece of cloth from her hand.
The person stopped, hesitatingly turned around, his pale face flushed with a bit of red.
“So it’s you,” Bai Ruozhu said, slightly disappointed when she saw Fengcheng. He frowned and asked, “Who else did you expect?”
“No one. Didn’t I tell you not to follow ? What are you sneaking around for?” Bai Ruozhu asked, a bit exasperated.
