In the following days, while the people in the Capital City were still engaging in lively discussions about the perfect match of Du Wangye and the talented Lao Wan, and Bai Ruozhu’s response, Du Zhongshu spent a night sulking with drinks at a Restaurant.
The Waiter wanted to close up, but couldn’t persuade him to leave. He drunkenly shouted, "I want to see Bai Ruozhu! Call Bai Ruozhu here, if she doesn’t co, I won’t leave!"
It was closing ti and there was hardly anyone on the streets, but his loud voice quickly caught the attention of the guests staying at the Inn above the Restaurant.
He had chosen well, specifically picking a place with accommodations above and dining on the ground floor.
Quite a few people stepped out to watch the commotion and saw him madly shouting, "Did you go find Bai Ruozhu? Is she refusing to co?"
The Waiter anxiously pleaded, "Du Wangye, please don’t shout. If you keep shouting, how can I explain to the other guests? I beg you, please go ho today and co back tomorrow to drink, okay? Our shopkeeper also said today’s drinks are on the house for you."
Du Zhongshu angrily pushed away the Waiter’s hand and said, "Forget about that, do you think I can’t afford the drinks? Is it that Bai Ruozhu is refusing to co? What does she want from to be satisfied? For her reputation, she wanted to take a concubine, so I did. Even took the woman her second brother didn’t want, I accepted it. Why won’t she co to see ?"
The Onlookers widened their eyes; this was hot news.
Even though the guests were from out of town, they had all heard enough about Bai Ruozhu arranging a concubine for Du Zhongshu, as it had been spreading around. Now, hearing Du Zhongshu’s "drunken words," they felt as if they had stumbled upon a major secret.
"Oh dear, it’s so late, who would dare go to the Bai Residence? Wouldn’t Master Jiang chop us down? Please be kind, just go ho, don’t delay us from closing up," the Waiter continued to plead.
"I’m not leaving. Bai Ruozhu doesn’t co, I won’t leave. You go get her and tell her I said so. If Jiang Yichun has the guts, let him co and settle accounts with !" Du Zhongshu shouted loudly.
The Waiter tried to pull him out, but was helpless against his Martial Arts, and could not budge him. Accidentally, he was even tossed aside by Du Zhongshu.
The shopkeeper did not show up but worriedly told another young worker at the back, "You go to the Wang Residence to notify their steward to pick him up. If no one cos, we will let him sleep here after closing."
"But all the rooms are full," the young worker reminded.
The shopkeeper glared at him, "He can sleep in my room, I’ll squeeze in with you all!"
"Yes, yes, thank you for your hard work, shopkeeper. I’ll go to the Wang Residence now." The young worker said and ran out.
The shopkeeper sighed and muttered, "Better if soone cos to get him, or else tonight won’t be peaceful."
Fortunately, it didn’t take long before the Du Family’s steward hurried over, but by then, Du Zhongshu had already let out many scandalous revelations, such as taking Lao Wan as a concubine for Bai Ruozhu, or that they once partnered in business, having more than ordinary bonds, but unfortunately Bai Ruozhu’s supposedly missing husband ca back, forcing him to step aside and wish her happiness.
These words gave people much room for imagination. Had the two had so sort of romantic relationship before Bai Ruozhu’s husband returned?
Seeing Du Zhongshu, the Du Residence’s steward imdiately burst into tears, "Wangye, how could you drink yourself into this state? Drinking harms your health. Let’s hurry ho; your injuries from the war still haven’t healed. You must take better care of yourself."
As he spoke, he reached out to help Du Zhongshu, but Du Zhongshu fiercely pushed him away, losing his balance and falling to the ground.
Suddenly, Du Zhongshu coughed up a mouthful of blood and fainted.
The Onlookers couldn’t help but gasp in shock. To drink to the point of vomiting blood, he must have drunk excessively.
"Wangye, Wangye, wake up, you can’t have an accident!" the steward cried out, "We just finished a war; should anything happen to you, how worried would the Emperor be! I must find soone to save you. That’s right, Bai the Chief Doctor, Bai the Chief Doctor can surely save you!"
He turned to the Waiter, "Why are you still standing there? Quickly find a carriage and help take Wangye to the Bai Residence!"
The Waiter silently lanted, unable to sleep that night, but dared not slack off. Should Du Wangye die in their Restaurant, none would escape bla. Du Wangye was, after all, a military strategist for the Yueqiu Tribe and a ritorious officer close to the Emperor.
Soon, a horse carriage was brought, and the unconscious Du Zhongshu was lifted onto it and taken to the Bai Residence Gate.
Loud knocking echoed through the nightti streets, waking up quite a few nearby households.
"Open the door! Open the door! Ask Bai the Chief Doctor to save our Wangye!" the steward cried as he pounded on the door.
The Bai Residence’s gatekeeper was awakened and hurried to inquire about the situation before reporting it to the residence’s steward.
By now, most people in the Bai Residence had been roused, and Jianqi had already figured out the situation and went to report to Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun.
Jiang Yichun gritted his teeth with a grinding noise, "He won’t die, he’s definitely pretending."
Bai Ruozhu’s eyes glead coldly; she had anticipated Du Zhongshu’s vengeful nature and troublemaking but still underestimated him. He bypassed Jiang Yichun and Bai Zepei, willing to self-harm just to trouble her, an Inner Courtyard woman.
"I know he won’t die, but if this continues, it will only make their situation more passive." Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes, "However, he miscalculated again this ti, and this Decoy Strategy was in vain."
She laughed as she spoke, and that smile carried a mischievous quality. To Jiang Yichun, it seed both wicked and captivating, prompting him to say, "In the future, don’t smile like that in front of anyone else!"
"Huh?" Bai Ruozhu was still reveling in her triumph and didn’t quite understand the situation when he suddenly spoke, leaving her montarily dumbfounded.
"Your smile is too seductive; you mustn’t let others see it," Jiang Yichun continued dominantly.
Bai Ruozhu’s lips twitched, and she playfully hit him, saying, "Let’s focus on the important matter. You go and tell Father; with the dical Sage stepping in, wouldn’t he be more effective and suitable than ?"
Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but laugh. No wonder Bai Ruozhu said Du Zhongshu’s Decoy Strategy was in vain; she had imdiately thought of a counterasure.
Ever since they returned, Gao Zhou had not entered the Palace. Being an idle person and given that Tang Yin already knew his true identity and was soon to set sail, he had no interest in going to the Palace. Instead, he buried himself in training at the Bai Residence, even if it made a small improvent in his strength, it would be slightly safer when going out to sea and not too weak when facing the rfolk.
Thus, almost no one outside knew of his presence in the Capital City.
Jiang Yichun went to inform Gao Zhou, who, though displeased, still donned a human skin mask and disguised himself as the dical Sage to go outside the Bai Residence Main Gate.
"It’s late at night; my goddaughter can’t et unrelated n. I was conferred the title of dical Sage by the Emperor, helping you see to an illness shouldn’t be an issue, right?" Gao Zhou said unceremoniously.
