But Bai Ruozhu had just seen many innocent civilians, unable to even truss a chicken, being slaughtered by the soldiers. How could she be in a good mood?
After calming down a bit, she took a deep breath and asked in a softer tone, "Tell , what do you find strange about them?"
Qiu Zhi felt Bai Ruozhu had beco gentler, so he gathered his courage and said, "They are not demons but ghosts."
Everyone was stunned, and Yizi couldn’t help but say, "Why is everything you say either demons or ghosts? Aren’t ghosts afraid of sunlight? How can they appear on the street in broad daylight?"
Qiu Zhi scratched his head, "I don’t know the reason either. There seems to be sothing like a barrier over there, but it’s not exactly a barrier; otherwise, we wouldn’t have entered the illusory realm. So those ghosts aren’t afraid of sunlight, but if we closely observe, we will definitely find that they only operate within that area and won’t leave it."
Bai Ruozhu didn’t mock him like before but stared at him and asked, "What did you see inside?"
"I saw civilians in the city say Xunyang City was ceded to Danliang Country by the Yueqiu tribe chief, and right after, a large number of soldiers rushed into the city, killing everyone they saw. I wanted to help but found I couldn’t hit them." Qiu Zhi said angrily, his eyes turning red, "Then when we ca out, I saw a person who died in the illusory realm near the Luo Family. That person was beheaded, how could he be alive?"
"You only noticed this, starting from Xunyang City being ceded to Danliang?" Bai Ruozhu quickly asked.
Qiu Zhi nodded, "Just that, and then I ca out. But I wasn’t guessing blindly; they have ghostly qi on them, though it’s masked by so aura, not very strong, but it can’t fool my nose."
"How co I didn’t see that? I only saw Fang Qing and his wife being deceived by Ma Tongfang, Fang Qing almost killed." Yizi said.
"Everyone saw differently, so more, so less. Let’s all speak one by one, I’ll make a brief record and we’ll organize everything together." Bai Ruozhu quickly took out paper and pen, Jiang Yichun willingly took the inkstone and ground ink for her.
After about half an hour, Bai Ruozhu recorded what everyone saw, along with the scenes she herself saw, arranged them in sequence, and finally made sense of it all.
Although she wasn’t the first to go in, she saw the most, probably related to her stronger divine sense.
In contrast, Jianqi and Qiu Zhi saw the least.
Next was Achun, then Yizi.
Among them, so were things Bai Ruozhu hadn’t seen, like Yizi saw the scene where Fang Qing and the Luo Family were ambushed by Ma Tongfang.
"When you first started getting trapped, did you not wake up imdiately?" Bai Ruozhu asked.
Everyone shook their heads, Jiang Yichun said, "I wasn’t sure how long it took to wake up."
From this, their divine sense is weaker, so once asleep, they don’t know how much ti has passed, thus missing so scenes.
Bai Ruozhu showed them the content she recorded, then pointed at the final scene of the Tu City massacre and said, "The scene ends here; it’s likely not that we missed the later parts, but because daylight ca, the illusory realm ended, and we couldn’t see the subsequent storyline. Or perhaps the story ends here, the illusory realm was ford on the day of the Tu City massacre."
Jiang Yichun suddenly had an epiphany, "I got it. If we want to know if there’s more story, we should go there again tonight; we might be able to enter the illusory realm again!"
"Yes!" Bai Ruozhu exclaid joyfully, "That’s it, let’s rest well during the day and go again at night!"
The others watched the two so excited, but instead had worried expressions, wondering if frequent entry into the illusory realm would be dangerous? What if one day they couldn’t co back?
"Master, I feel there’s sothing sinister over there, we should avoid taking risks for now." Qiu Zhi said cautiously.
Bai Ruozhu glanced at him, "Who said it’s us? It’ll just be and Achun. You guys didn’t see much of the scenes inside, it’s rather a waste of energy, better to recharge and be ready to assist us."
"No way!" Yizi shouted, "I’m not afraid of danger. I must accompany you."
Bai Ruozhu laughed, "I didn’t say you’re afraid of danger, but we need to divide the tasks reasonably, right? You’d better set up a barrier in our residence here to prevent anyone from scheming against us."
Yizi looked worried but still nodded obediently.
Qiu Zhi was anxious, "Then what should I do, Master? Can I go catch the ghosts?"
"No, you’ll go nearby during the day and see if there’s anything suspicious. Didn’t you say sothing special is masking their ghostly qi? You check it out." Bai Ruozhu replied.
"Okay, I’ll go right away." Qiu Zhi said and started to walk outside, Bai Ruozhu opened her mouth but didn’t stop him; the little Daoist was a bit stubborn, blocking him was useless.
Then Bai Ruozhu told everyone to go back to their rooms to rest, and as soon as Bai Ruozhu entered the room, she said to Jiang Yichun, "I won’t let Ma Tongfang off!"
Jiang Yichun gritted his teeth, "Though I didn’t see the full process, I learned of so of his actions back in the day, enough for a serious cri on its own. He must face the punishnt he deserves soday."
"Unfortunately, we lack evidence, whether it’s witnesses or physical proof, all is buried in history. We can’t solely rely on what we saw in the illusory realm to accuse him, no one would believe us." Bai Ruozhu said.
Jiang Yichun pondered and shook his head, "There will be a way; in the worst case, we can find other ans to take him down."
"That would be too easy for him. If he simply dies, who will comfort the warriors and innocent civilians who died back then? How to make the world see his true face?" Bai Ruozhu furiously clenched her fists, but proving Ma Tongfang’s cris was too difficult!
