The part where the Worm Nest was situated should have been a small purification device, designed to purify a small portion of the heated water and then distribute it for scenic purposes, surrounding the entire base, while the majority of the heated water would be directed through the ‘ψ’ shaped ducts to the cooling zones, i.e., the Ruins of Ice Abyss.
From there, it would be transported to all the energy units around the base for cooling, cycling back and forth.
But as the Relic System had indicated, part of the power units were damaged, contaminating the cooling water, which is now being absorbed by the Matron as an energy source…
The Redwood Base, now devoid of humans, doesn’t really care about the contaminated water; it should cool down as intended, and the AI should be able to make that decision.
However, the System had been tampered with by The Great Elder, and it constantly failed to respond to this situation.
The Worm Nest dismantled the purification device and jamd the giant valve beneath it, subsequently drawing energy and radiation from the cooling water.
The jamd cooling valve of Redwood Base was bugged; it seed to be in a special state of ‘neither open nor closed,’ unmanageable by the remote control system, and could only be manually operated to continue the process.
But who could carry out the process under attack from the Nest?
The Giant Golden Centipede must have been one of the repairn, but it ended up being parasitized by the Brain-Eating Parasite and has been wandering through the ruins for years.
With the resurgence of the Nest, it beca an instrunt of the Matron.
The entire heat dissipation system of the ruins malfunctioned as a result, just like the original aning of a ‘bug’—a re tiny insect could cause a massive base to malfunction.
Coupled with internal tampering, it led to a complete shutdown of the system.
Essentially, the Rift Valley was an unsealed cooling vent.
The entire Worm Nest itself was likely an extrely important ‘control device,’ a biological computer that had been continuously ‘hacking into the System’ for years, influencing the self-controlled system of Redwood Base to misjudge this location.
At that mont, Ian looked towards the direction where the behemoths were battling.
The Crystal Dragon, the Gargantuan Eel, and the Matron fought earth-shatteringly.
These behemoths alone could affect the geological structure just by colliding with each other, let alone in an artificially crafted area—the sides of the valley were collapsing one after another like dominoes, and the rock shell above continued to fall unceasingly.
The collapse of the rock shell wouldn’t damage the heat interchange valves or the Worm Nest in any way.
At most, it would only cover them like sprinkling sand.
The problem was that if that happened, there wouldn’t be any way to blow up the Worm Nest and get the interchange working again!
After all, the Brain-Eater Matron was a creature accidentally reborn decades ago under various coincidences.
The Nest wasn’t large; it was easily destroyed, and just as easily concealed.
Ian also understood why the Bishop White Mist was attacking all monsters, forcing them to retreat.
He wanted to avoid any impact on the foundations of this place, preventing the Nest from being covered by nurous sedints and rocks and, therefore, protected.
“I’ll go destroy the Nest now.”
He stood up at once, knowing there was no ti for hesitation.
Ian grabbed a pack of explosives, slung it over his shoulder, and prepared to head to the Nest imdiately.
After all, with Bishop White Mist and the Crystal Dragon engaging the Matron, the situation was still sowhat safe.
“Good.”
Yisen Gard didn’t hesitate either.
He handed Ian another vial of his blood, his face pale but his expression firm, “Be careful and safe.
We will support you from here with the cannons…”
“Rember to take the potion,” said Master Gossay, who was still adjusting the alchemical module of the cannons.
At this critical mont, he didn’t waste words, “I just thought of sothing.
When using those explosives, you can create a conical structure with your ‘Inheritance’ to focus the force of the blast, making it more penetrative!”
That ‘Inheritance’ was, of course, the Sand Armor Apprentice.
