In recent days, Chen Shi had shown considerable concern for Old Madam Wu Zhu, always inquiring whether the old lady was in good health, how much she could eat in a al, or whether she was ill.
Old Madam Wu Zhu’s impression of the village tyrant had improved significantly, and she praised the scholarly master wherever she went, even turning a blind eye if the scholarly master sneaked into the lon field to steal lons.
Chen Shi felt sowhat embarrassed and thus abandoned the idea of creating a talismanic creature for his grandfather as a gift.
He had not gone out to sell talismans lately but had settled down to study the "Talisman Creation Treasure Book."
He moved his desk under the willows on the yellow earth hillock outside the village, freshly ground the ink, and began to ponder over and copy the talismans recorded in the Creation Treasure Book.
Black Pot scampered around the desk, and whenever a talisman creature escaped from the paper Chen Shi was painting on and started causing trouble, Black Pot would pounce on it and bite it dead.
Chen Shi was rely learning how to paint talisman creatures and had not used his full strength, so the creatures he painted were not very powerful. However, as he grew more adept, the paper started to unleash one talisman creature after another, each one growing larger, fiercer and stronger.
Still, none of these talisman creatures managed to escape before being killed by Black Pot.
Chen Shi wasn’t surprised by Black Pot’s performance; he felt that Black Pot’s actions were to be expected.
The most salient feature of the Creation Treasure Book lay in its emphasis on creating life, with the primary goal being to create living things.
Chen Shi had already learned a bit about creation from the Traction Worm, but he hadn’t mastered the ability to control talisman creatures.
The treasure book also contained various thods for controlling creatures and for addressing the issue of creations that got out of control.
As he learned and verified, he realized that creating creatures beyond the fifth grade required special materials and beca progressively more difficult to control.
Later in the book, Chen Shi read that talisman creatures of higher grades were no longer called talisman creatures but Talisman Gods.
Second and third-grade creatures included three or four types of creatures, but there was only one kind of First Grade Talisman God—called Heavenly chanism—a form with the appearance of an Eight-Ard Demon, handso and dashing, tall and strong, wielding eight mystical arms, skilled at both long-distance and close combat.
The power of this creation could even co together to form the Ghost God Domain, enveloping dozens of miles and nearing the power of demons and gods!
Yet, controlling Heavenly chanism was much more difficult, and there was even a risk that the Talisman Master could be controlled by Heavenly chanism instead.
"The moonlight harbors mysterious power, corrupting creations, which over ti, transform into Evil Spirits."
Grandfather wrote in the book, "Thus, creations should not be kept for long, for with ti, they spawn evil."
Chen Shi looked up at the sky; both the sun and the moon were visible, the moon just a crescent.
But the crescent seed a bit rounder than before.
The moon that appeared during the day was gradually growing larger, and the moonlight during dayti was also becoming more abundant.
"What force could be contained in the moonlight that would cause man-made creatures to lose control and turn wicked?" Chen Shi was deeply curious, almost wishing he could fly up to the sky to thoroughly investigate.
He continued reading, but there were no more talisman creatures after the first grade, though he did notice in the crease the trace of a page that had been torn out.
"Grandfather tore out a page!"
He was shocked. What was recorded on that torn-out page?
Could there be creatures higher than the First Grade Talisman God Heavenly chanism?
Regrettably, with that page torn out by his grandfather, Chen Shi had no way of knowing what the recorded creation was.
The following pages contained random trivia, so were doodles his grandfather made while researching, and so were fragnts of insight, lacking systemization, leaving Chen Shi unable to discern his grandfather’s thoughts at that ti.
But Chen Shi found sothing different recorded on the second-to-last page.
"Jiajing year 6602, sumr, Creation Little Five went out of control. With Heavenly chanism two, executed Little Five, discovered over three hundred skeletons in the Underground nest."
"Jiajing year 6612, sumr, Creation Little Five went out of control. With Heavenly chanism four, executed Little Five, discovered one thousand and thirteen skeletons beneath Dayout Lake."
"Jiajing year 6622, sumr, Creation Little Five went out of control. With Heavenly chanism twelve, executed Little Five, discovered hundreds of exalted corpses on Golden Mountain, suspended in air, not falling."
Chen Shi read with a pounding heart.
Creation Little Five – was that the talismanic god recorded on the page that his grandfather had torn out?
A creation that surpassed the Talisman God Heavenly chanism!
But there seed to be sothing peculiar about his grandfather’s records.
"Grandfather killed Little Five three tis in a row, which logically ans that after the first ti, there should have been no need for a second. Realizing the danger of Creation Little Five, Grandfather surely would not make another Little Five. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have torn out the page about Creation Little Five. So where did the subsequent Little Fives co from?"
Could Creation Little Five possess the power to resurrect itself?
Chen Shi pondered deeper, finding it even stranger that every ti Creation Little Five went out of control, it was during the sumr and precisely every ten years—alarmingly precise!
Even more terrifying was the notion that each resurrection of Creation Little Five seed to make it stronger than the last.
The first ti Grandfather killed Little Five, he used two Heavenly chanism gods. The second ti, he needed four, and by the third ti, he required twelve!
This indicated that with each resurrection, Creation Little Five’s strength increased!
Steadying his mind, Chen Shi turned the page.
This page was the last one, with only one line: "Jiajing year 6632, sumr, Creation Little Five went out of control. With Heavenly chanism thirty-two, subdued Creation Little Five at Qianyang Mountain."
Chen Shi read the page several tis over, closed the Creation Treasure Book, and took a mont to compose himself.
Thirty-two Heavenly chanism gods, subdued at Qianyang Mountain.
