Chapter 422: Capturing Bisons - 1
Leo looked at the round, dium-bowl sized fruit in Aeila’s hand, its surface brimming with vitality.
[Earthpulse Lifecore] - Mid-Purple Tier Treasure
It was comparatively larger than the previous one Leo consud during the trial.
A treasure effective on individuals up to mid-4-star rank, which ant it was useless to Leo. But it would work on Lily, since she was still in the initial stages of mid-4-star.
Just then, Sylrael spoke up.
"Lord, this treasure fruit will be very useful when we capture the bisons. Please take it with you."
Leo nodded and swiped his hand, storing it away. He then turned toward Aeila.
"Good job protecting it until now. Go around and check if any other magic plants have blood."
As he spoke, Leo handed her a spatial ring so she could store everything inside.
Aeila accepted the order and ran back toward the general pool area where the magic plants were located.
She returned soon enough, the spatial ring now filled with magic fruits.
After taking it, Leo and the others climbed onto Kaelion’s Spirit Skyreaver and set off toward Nyxa’s location. The wind howled faintly as they rose into the sky.
"Sylrael, do you know any special techniques to capture beasts like bison?" Leo asked as they flew.
"Lord, while I have not captured them personally, my tribesn used to do it. They could capture them successfully even when they only had strength in the 2-star realm," she replied.
"I have watched how they used to do it, so I am confident I can help in capturing them too."
Leo nodded.
"Alright, you’ll be taking the lead when we capture the bisons."
"A-alright." Sylrael blinked, clearly surprised that she was being entrusted with the lead while Leo himself was present.
Maybe he is checking where I can be useful... she thought.
But for Leo, it was simple—he had no experience with cattle. And since this wasn’t a one-sided slaughter, he had to be careful, especially when the beasts were ant to be dosticated.
Surprisingly, Nyxa had traveled nearly 200 kilotres away from the territory, reaching a vast plains region filled with tall grass swaying in the wind.
When they arrived, they were greeted by an enormous herd of bison, varying in size.
Leo’s eyes narrowed slightly as he realized that the 200-kilotre stretch was only the beginning of the herd.
"Just how large is this herd?!" Lily exclaid, staring down from the Skyreaver’s back.
Wherever the eye could see, there were bisons—grazing, drinking from rain-ford puddles, or slowly moving with the herd. They all seed to be of different species, so having white fur--the frosthide Bisons, so brown, so were even a bit reddish--all mix in. The males were larger, with broader, sweeping horns, while the females were shorter with leaner builds.
By rough estimation, the herd stretched over 100 kilotres—likely even farther beyond sight. All of them were migrating in the sa direction, to sowhere unknown.
Leo could easily imagine the devastation of a stampede. Not only would countless bisons die, but the vegetation along their path would be completely razed—especially with the males averaging 2 to 3 ters in size, High 2-star.
He also noticed 3-star bisons spread evenly throughout the herd, acting as regional leaders.
"Hmm... there’s no sign of the big boss," Leo muttered, referring to the leader of the leaders. Either they didn’t exist and operated in a decentralized manner like in his previous world, or it had yet to appear.
"Lord," Sylrael called.
"I think this is the ti of their seasonal migration. Smaller groups must have rged to form this massive herd..." She hesitated before continuing.
"And it becos much harder to capture them during this ti. Others will quickly co to their aid."
"But can you do it?" Leo asked calmly.
Sylrael nodded her head.
"Most probably."
"Good. From here on, you will command us until this mission of capturing bisons is complete."
They descended to a quiet area a few kilotres behind the herd, and Nyxa soon caught up to them.
Despite having traveled 200 kilotres on foot, Nyxa looked unusually energetic.
Maybe 200 kilotres isn’t much here... Leo thought.
"Good work, Nyxa. We’ll capture a few bisons. In the process, so are bound to die—you can have them as food."
And so, their hunt began.
"Lord, we cannot afford to provoke the entire herd—or even a large portion of it. Let’s look for an area where more females are present," Sylrael said.
The group dispersed.
Soon after, Lily found a region dominated by female bisons and their calves. A few males were scattered around, but the most prominent were 3 Low 3-star males, each around 5 ters tall, acting as guards for the localized group.
The area held roughly 100 bisons—males, females, and calves—and was close to the edge of the herd, making it an ideal target.
But before proceeding, the group needed to be further isolated.
"Lord, we need sothing to attract their attention and draw them away from the herd," Sylrael said.
Leo nodded and took out the spatial ring containing the magic fruits.
He glanced around, but the plains offered no suitable terrain for trapping them. So, he reshaped the land using his [Earth Manipulation].
The ground rose in a 100-ter radius, forming a bowl-like structure with a single opening facing the targeted herd. Soon after, Niri, Lily, and Sylrael worked together to make the structure appear natural, covering it with vegetation.
Then, Leo dumped all the magic fruits inside.
From their concealed positions, they watched as a few bisons noticed the new presence and cautiously moved closer. But their numbers remained low.
"Lord, I think we need to use the fruit from the big tree," Sylrael suggested quietly.
Leo, cloaked in stealth, nodded and placed the fruit among the pile.
The effect was imdiate.
A large number of bisons lifted their heads at once, their attention snapping toward the source. So even began moving decisively, able to pinpoint the general direction.
Naturally, the leader-level bisons were the first to approach.
