"Wah...wah...wah..."

"The mistress has given birth!" a loud female voice exclaid as the baby's cries grew louder.

This was the Xiao family, a small family on the edge of a town. Previously consisting of just two people, it now welcod a third with the newborn child. The father, Xiao Lian, was a wealthy businessman with branches in several cities. A year ago, he ca to this town to open a new branch, where he t Su Yang—an orphan begging by the roadside.

"Haha! This child's na will be Li Qian... no, not a traditional na," Xiao Lian chuckled, holding the baby. A smile lit his face as he looked at the infant.

"Your na will be Kai," he declared with a hearty laugh. Originally, he had planned to na his child Xiao Bao, then considered Li Qiang, but sothing told him this child's na should be Kai.

"Oh..." Su Yang groaned, opening her eyes. Xiao Lian rushed to her side with the baby in his arms.

"Wife, you're awake," Xiao Lian said softly. Su Yang smiled, and the two shared a tender mont, while the baby's eyes remained closed. Just then, a dark, flaming aura hovered nearby, unnoticed by Xiao Lian and Su Yang, who lacked the sensitivity to perceive it.

The baby, eyes still closed, finally opened them briefly, as if wondering, "Who am I, and what is my purpose?"

The child soon fell back asleep, and the parents gazed at the little one cute face in awe.

Four years later...

Little Kai had grown into a fine young boy, although a strange one. He showed little interest in playing with other children, preferring solitude and intense physical training, as if he'd been training for decades.

One day, Xiao Lian summoned Kai to the study. "Son, today is the day you'll leave for the prestigious cultivators' sect. I'm proud of you," Xiao Lian said with a laugh. Two years earlier, a passing cultivator had tested Kai's talent, discovering a rare, dark flaming affinity—a gift not seen in thousands of years.

"Thank you, Father. I will work hard and make you proud," Kai replied with a faint smile.

"Let's go, then. Ti to see you off," Xiao Lian said, nodding. Kai followed his father closely as they walked outside, where servants and aides greeted them.

As they reached the gate, Xiao Lian felt a wave of nostalgia, while Kai gazed around with calm, tranquil eyes. At the doorway, Kai noticed his mother's bulging stomach; in two months, he would have a sibling of unknown gender.

"Son," Su Yang called, arms open. Kai approached her calmly and bowed slightly.

Seeing this, Su Yang felt a pang of sadness. Kai was a good child—talented, obedient, and hardworking—but his calmness bordered on coldness. When once asked how he felt about his parents, he had replied, "Nothing... I feel nothing."

"Take care of yourself, son... We await your return," Su Yang said, her voice choking with emotion. Xiao Lian sighed, resigned to his son's distant nature.

"Stay well, Mother. Take care of yourselves, Father," Kai replied with a faint smile as a carriage arrived. His belongings were already packed.

Kai climbed into the carriage, its steps high for a child his age. As it departed, Su Yang broke down in tears, embracing her husband.

"Don't worry, he'll be fine. We know how strong our little boy is," Xiao Lian reassured her as she sniffled.

In the carriage, Kai looked out the window, watching children playing, people arguing and laughing in the market. He was finally leaving the town, moving into new territory.

"Sigh... it's boring again," Kai murmured, his gaze sharp. Since learning to count, he had felt no warmth, only a calm detachnt. He watched the scenes pass by, his expression tranquil. Find exclusive stories on empire

"Are you ready, young master?" the driver asked from outside as they left the town's limits.

"Yes," Kai nodded, watching as a broad grin spread across the driver's face.

Boom!

The two horses pulling the cart leapt hundreds of ters into the air, soaring through the skies. Kai observed it all with an unwavering calmness.
