The grey creature lunged forward with savage ferocity.
It was a long, hunched humanoid monstrosity – two arms, two legs, a bent back, and a completely faceless head.
Its skin looked dull and ashen, like dead stone.

Its faceless head opened vertically into a horrifying mouth filled with jagged teeth.
It lunged forward to devour him.

He grabbed both sides of the creature’s mouth with his hands, stopping its bite midway.

The creature’s empty eye sockets were glowing faintly.
Those pupilless, emotionless eyes stared directly at him.

Not with hatred.
But with greed.
The creature raised its arms and began moving them in strange, twisting motions. Its body started to swell and distort, as if preparing to evolve into sothing even more grotesque.
Yu Xuan did not intend to wait and see what that transformation would beco.

A rain of golden descended.
The naless weapon fragnted into countless drops of liquid gold that tore into the creature’s body, carving deep holes through its grey flesh.

The creature suddenly punched.

An invisible force struck him.

Before he could regain his footing, several more unseen strikes slamd into him, each blow arriving without any clear source.
Yu Xuan stabilized himself midair and imdiately shifted tactics.
The golden droplets he had scattered earlier gathered together near the creature.
They condensed into a brilliant orb of liquid gold.
Yu Xuan smirked slightly.
"Haha... your noisy mouth is really annoying, enjoy this!"
The golden sphere pulsed once shining brightly.

BOOM!
A violent explosion swallowed the creature completely.
The blast scattered fragnts of grey flesh across the battlefield before everything began evaporating into smoke.
Yu Xuan watched the fading remains carefully.
’...This isn’t over yet, is it?’ he thought.
He was right.
Within the drifting smoke, the creature began forming again.
But this ti its appearance had changed.
Its body was smaller.
Thinner.
More ethereal.
It looked almost like a ghost, its grey form semi-transparent as if it existed halfway between reality and illusion.
The creature had adapted itself to match its opponent.

The blade glowed crimson.
A terrifying sword intent surged outward, far more domineering than before.
Within the red aura, faint streaks of black appeared.

A terrifying slash tore through the air, distorting space itself as it rushed toward the creature.
But, the attack passed straight through it.
As if the creature did not truly exist within space.

It was doing so seamlessly, so smoothly that Yu Xuan could not even feel the spatial distortion occurring.
The creature raised its long, twisted fingers.
In the next instant, they appeared directly in front of Yu Xuan.
No movent.
No transition.
Just sudden arrival.
Yu Xuan reacted instinctively, slashing his sword through them.
The fingers fell.
But black blood leaked from the severed stumps.
Then sothing horrifying happened.
The droplets of blood twisted midair and reshaped themselves.
Each droplet transford into a new finger, lunging at Yu Xuan from every direction.
Yu Xuan’s eyes flashed coldly.
[Blessing of Killing Intent].
His killing intent erupted outward.
Amplified by the naless weapon’s blessing, the crimson aura spread across the battlefield, turning the entire space blood-red.
Everything touched by that aura began descending into madness.
Even the air seed to tremble under the oppressive will to kill.
The creature was not exempt from its influence.
For the first ti since the battle began.
It paused.
Its faceless head moved slightly as if it was trying very hard.
Then slowly.
The creature looked directly at Yu Xuan and smiled.
Its mouth twisted into an unnatural grin as broken words erged from its throat in the crude Cultivator’s Tongue.
