"What does he an?"

Joanna Sherman asked, puzzled, after Jenson Forrest said his piece and left.

Vincent Grant frowned, watching Jenson’s retreating back for a mont before shaking his head.

’Jenson never liked to beat around the bush with . His cryptic words tonight felt strange.’

Vincent didn’t dwell on it, because he had soone more important to see tonight.

"Let’s go."

...

It was the weekend.

Sophia Shaw took a half-day off to spend ti with Bun.

In the afternoon, she returned to work with the project team.

She was busy until six o’clock, when a frantic Levin Sawyer ca and dragged her out.

"The governnt is hosting a banquet tonight to encourage communication between the cooperating parties. All the key personnel have to be there; no one can get out of it."

Sophia preferred peace and quiet and particularly disliked social events.

But since attendance was mandatory, she had no choice but to go.

Neither of them had formal attire, and going ho to get so would be a waste of ti.

After a quick discussion, they decided to just buy sothing at a mall on the way.

When they arrived at the mall, Sophia hurried into a dress shop she frequented while Levin Sawyer parked the car.

She planned to grab sothing quickly and leave.

"Miss... Shaw?" Upon seeing her, the usually enthusiastic sales associate’s expression beca complicated, and she instinctively glanced inside the store.

Sophia followed her gaze.

She saw Vincent Grant and Joanna Sherman standing together, both dressed in purple.

A mirror reflected the image of the two nestled together, looking impossibly intimate.

Joanna Sherman lifted her head slightly and leaned toward Vincent Grant. From Sophia’s angle, it looked as if they were overco with passion, kissing in public.

Vera Grant and Sophia had co here together before, so the associate knew of their relationship.

Now that they had run into each other in the sa shop, she had no idea what to do, stamring, "Maybe... you could take a look at the store next door?"

Sophia let out a faint smile.

’So even the sales associate could see I was the one about to be kicked to the curb.’

’Apparently, this wasn’t the first ti the two of them had co here together.’

"That’s not what I ant, I just..." The associate realized she had misspoken and beca incoherent.

She simply didn’t want Sophia to see this scene.

She didn’t want things to get ugly, with Sophia being the one left embarrassed in the end.

Sophia smiled to reassure her. "I understand."

But she really didn’t have ti to go pick out a dress sowhere else.

Sophia’s eyes landed on a long, pearl-white ruffled gown. "Do you have that in my size? I’d like to try it on."

"Ah? Yes!"

The associate had expected her to cause a scene or leave, but she never imagined Sophia would so calmly continue to try on clothes.

Seeing Sophia stride toward a fitting room in the opposite direction from Vincent Grant and Joanna Sherman, the associate went to the stockroom to retrieve the dress.

"Whose dress is this?"

The associate had just brought the dress out when Joanna Sherman stopped her.

"It’s... for a custor," the associate said vaguely, pointing at the tightly closed fitting room door across the way.

Joanna Sherman stared at the closed door, a glint in her eyes.

While Vincent Grant hadn’t noticed Sophia’s arrival, she had seen her long ago.

Joanna said impassively, "Get this dress as well."

The fitting rooms in the couture dress shop were very spacious.

Sophia looked at herself in the dress for a mont, listening to the mixture of a man’s deep voice and a woman’s bright, sweet tones from outside.

A few months ago, their intimacy would have torn her apart. Now, her heart was as still as water.

After paying, Sophia walked out.

Just then, Levin Sawyer ca looking for her.

"Sothing’s co up. I have to deal with it really quick."

Levin Sawyer looked apologetic as he took her to a restaurant two streets away.

On the way, Sophia learned that Mrs. Sawyer had arranged another blind date for him.

Sophia stayed in Levin Sawyer’s car while he hurried upstairs.

Not long after, a girl ca running down from upstairs, covering her face.

She stopped when she saw Levin Sawyer’s car.

She turned and ran over, and upon seeing the person in the car, she shrieked like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, "Sophia Shaw, it’s you!"

The woman was hysterical, her voice sharp. "You’re the one clinging to Levin Sawyer! That’s why he rejected !"

It was only then that Sophia recognized her.

Mira Quinn.

The daughter of Mindy Jennings, Chad Jennings’s sister, who was Sophia’s aunt in na only.

Hearing her words, Sophia realized that Mira was Levin Sawyer’s blind date for the day.

"Don’t be ridiculous," Sophia reminded her coldly.

But Mira Quinn was relentless. "How dare you deny it! Levin Sawyer told himself that he has a girlfriend!"

Since Sophia was sitting in Levin Sawyer’s car, Mira Quinn naturally assud she was the girlfriend he had ntioned.

The idea that Sophia was Levin Sawyer’s girlfriend sent Mira Quinn into a complete ltdown.

"Why would he choose you! You’ve been married, you’ve had a child—you’re already tainted!"

She had always thought Levin Sawyer would fall for so charming, imnsely talented young lady from a prestigious family.

"You must be the one clinging to him, right? You knew Levin Sawyer hasn’t been around many won, so you shalessly used your body to seduce him!"

Mira Quinn spoke as if she had witnessed it herself, one unfiltered, vulgar comnt after another spilling from her mouth.

"Does that body of yours, worn out from being slept with by Vincent Grant, even deserve to touch Levin Sawyer? Sophia Shaw, you’re shaless! You whore!"

Sophia watched Mira Quinn’s tirade with a detached expression.

The Mira Quinn from her childhood wasn’t like this.

She used to be very clingy, always following her around calling her "sister," and she was quite sensible too.

Later, after Yvonne Sherman and Joanna Sherman entered the Jennings Family’s circle, Mira’s personality changed after a few interactions with Joanna.

She stopped associating with her.

A minor character like Mira Quinn wasn’t even worth her ti to deal with.

Sophia said coolly, "Levin Sawyer should be down any second. Do you really want him to see you acting like a shrew?"

Mira Quinn’s heart skipped a beat. She shot Sophia a vicious glare before striding away, her eyes brimming with tears.

Because of the delay, Levin Sawyer and Sophia were a little late when they arrived at the venue.

Vincent Grant and Joanna Sherman were already there.

Joanna Sherman was wearing the purple suit from the shop, while Vincent Grant had changed into a black one.

Although they were sitting a short distance apart, an undeniable intimacy shone through the perfect sync of their smiles and expressions.

Sophia saw the two of them from afar and lost any desire to approach, turning to head in another direction.

Levin Sawyer remained by her side.

Soone with sharp eyes spotted the pair.

"Oh, isn’t that your son? Why would he arrive and not even greet his own mother?"

In the crowd, besides Vincent Grant and Joanna Sherman, were Yvonne Sherman, Levin Sawyer’s mother, and the ladies they usually drank tea and played cards with.

Yvonne Sherman sat primly, elegantly crossing her legs in the other direction.

Just monts before, everyone had been praising Levin Sawyer, Vincent Grant, and Joanna Sherman.

Those three were the ones from the new generation making the biggest waves in the city, so naturally, they were a hot topic of conversation.

Mrs. Fletcher, next to Yvonne Sherman, smiled faintly and answered for Mrs. Sawyer. "Didn’t you see the young woman with him? It seems he’s forgotten his mother now that he has a girlfriend."

"What girlfriend?" Mrs. Sawyer’s expression was indifferent.

There was no particular emotion on her well-maintained face.

Vincent Grant sat motionless, but his gaze followed Sophia and Levin Sawyer.

Only after hearing Mrs. Sawyer’s words did he discreetly withdraw his gaze.

Mrs. Fletcher covered her mouth. "Young Master Sawyer certainly keeps things close to his chest, not even telling you. If I hadn’t brought Mira to the blind date with him today where he said it himself, I wouldn’t have believed it either!"

Yvonne Sherman glanced in Sophia’s direction. "Mrs. Fletcher, you must be joking. That girl is just a colleague from Young Master Sawyer’s company."

Mrs. Fletcher retorted, "Oh, I’ve heard about that. At the company, Young Master Sawyer takes special care of this young lady, protecting her at every turn. I’ve never heard of her graduating from any prestigious university or having any significant accomplishnts, yet he just gave her the position of chief engineer."

"Rumor has it that the reason Young Master Sawyer arranged it this way is because the girl was ’provoked’ by sothing and insisted on having the chief engineer title to prove a point."

"Young Master Sawyer must really dote on this girl, to give away such an important position just because she threw a tantrum and made a bet with soone!"

CRACK!

The screen of the phone in Vincent Grant’s hand shattered under his grip.
