Aji quickly pulled Nina aside to safety, then transford into a cheetah and charged forward to et Sano head-on.

"Father Neel!" Aji shouted while fighting. "Take my mother and Nina away, and call more warriors to help!"

Though the fight had only just begun, Aji already knew he was no match for Sano.

"Alright!" Neel imdiately transford into a gray wolf, preparing to take Miye away.

But Sano had no intention of letting them go for help. With one powerful swipe, he sent Aji flying, then turned and rushed toward Neel.

Miye hadn’t even managed to climb onto Neel’s back when Sano closed in.

Left with no choice, Neel shook Miye off and engaged Sano instead.

But Neel was no match for him either. Within just a couple of exchanges, he was already losing ground.

Aji scrambled back up and rushed to help. He shouted toward Nina, "Nina! Mother! Run! Head for the residential area—there are other warriors there who can protect you!"

Nina knew that staying would only slow them down. "Be careful!" she called out. "I’ll go get help!"

She gave Aji a worried look, then supported her belly and ran as fast as she could toward the residential area.

He froze in place, utterly lost.

"Aji, put Nina down and give her to him!" Miye sobbed. "Are you really going to abandon your own mother for a female who has nothing to do with you?"

Sano’s patience seed to wear thin. He pressed his claws against Miye’s throat. "Aji, put Nina down—or else..."

"Don’t!" Aji cried in horror. In the end, he gently set Nina down. "Please, don’t hurt my mother."

Sano jerked his chin toward a nearby tree. "Turn back into human form. Walk over there and lean against that tree."

"I’m sorry, Nina," Aji said, full of guilt, lowering his head as he walked toward the tree.

"It’s alright," Nina said softly. "I don’t bla you."

After all, Miye was his mother.

Her words only made Aji feel more ashad. Each step felt unbearably heavy.

He leaned against the tree as instructed and said to Sano, "I did what you asked. Let my mother go now."

Sano curled his lips slightly and used his ability to bind Aji tightly to the tree, leaving him completely immobilized.

He kicked Miye aside, reverted to human form, and walked toward Aji.

Freed, Miye scrambled up and ran without looking back—not sparing Aji even a glance.

A sharp blade ford in Sano’s hand. "If you want to spare your mother, then trade your life for hers."

He raised the blade high and thrust it toward Aji’s heart.

"Don’t kill him!" Nina shouted desperately.

The blade stopped right against Aji’s chest. Sano turned his head to look at Nina.

"Don’t kill him. I’ll go with you. If you kill him, I’ll never forgive you—as long as I live."

Nina couldn’t bear for Aji to die because of her. She had already guessed Sano’s true goal.

"Nina, run—don’t worry about !" Aji cried in agony.

Sano frowned. After a brief mont of thought, he withdrew the blade.

He transford back into his beast form, ran to Nina, grabbed her, and vanished from Aji’s sight in an instant.

Aji struggled wildly, tearing his skin until it bled, but it was useless.

His vision blurred. Scalding tears slid down the contours of his face, one drop after another.

"Nina..."

He stared in the direction she’d disappeared, whimpering softly—broken, helpless.
