"He’s a Water Elent Superpower User,

I heard he used to be a ride-share driver,

but Dawn Donovan claims he graduated from a top university, has a Superpower, and all that,

and she’s basically manufactured this image of him as so kind of elite official."

It wasn’t that Leo Hale looked down on being a ride-share driver.

He just thought it was a bit much for soone whose profession didn’t match their new role at all.

"A top university?"

Nina Jacobs was surprised people were still competing over academic credentials at a ti like this.

But then again, thinking back to her past life, the factional struggles in the City D Base were indeed severe.

’So it all started this early?’

"By the way, what about Myra Lawson?"

Nina Jacobs asked.

"Myra Lawson is a force of nature, but she only focuses on killing zombies and securing supplies,

strictly speaking, she belongs to the military officer faction,

and she never gets involved in the infighting among the civil officials."

Leo Hale simply used terms from ancient history to describe the situation.

Nina Jacobs nodded. Leo Hale’s description was very accurate.

That was exactly how Myra Lawson had been in her past life.

Early on, she had reclaid a huge amount of supplies for the new base.

Most of the people under her command were experts. Things went very well for her at first, but most of them ended up sacrificing themselves later.

So, like Chester Pearson, died from absorbing too many Crystal Cores in a desperate attempt to increase their strength.

Others were devoured by more advanced, mutated zombies.

Especially after Ian Chandler died, Myra Lawson lost all her forr vitality.

The last ti Nina Jacobs saw her, her hair was streaked with gray, and the light in her eyes had gone out.

’I wonder if things at the City D Base can be better in this life, with Ian Chandler still around?’

"I’ve said so much, and it’s only made you all worry,

The tasks that Lawson assigned a few days ago were all completed under my supervision,

I don’t believe my abilities are inferior to anyone else’s. I’ll keep fighting for this position, so don’t worry."

Daniel Hale patted his son, Leo Hale, on the shoulder.

In truth, he despised the idea of rising through the ranks by relying on connections. He hadn’t been idle during this ti and believed that soone would eventually recognize his efforts.

"That’s right. At the end of the day, our family is still together,

so you two shouldn’t put too much pressure on yourselves."

Vera Coleman said comfortingly.

Having witnessed so much suffering in the shelter these past few days, she now felt very fortunate and content.

"Exactly. I brought back a lot of food this ti,

so let’s all eat sothing first. Maybe everything will turn out for the best."

After Nina Jacobs finished speaking, Leo Hale realized he was hungry too.

He’d only had a bowl of porridge for lunch before rushing off to find Chester Pearson.

Now, he was starving.

Vera Coleman tore open the packaging of a braised goose, sliced it, and arranged it on a plate. The aroma instantly filled the room.

Combined with ready-to-eat dishes like braised beef and self-heating hot pots, everyone’s appetite was piqued.

In the afternoon, Ian Chandler brought an unexpected person to see Nina Jacobs.

"Nina, long ti no see!

I heard you caused another sensation today,

it’s just a sha I wasn’t there to see it."

Shirley Lucas peeked out from behind Ian Chandler, then imdiately darted inside upon seeing Nina Jacobs.

"...What are you doing here?"

Nina Jacobs hadn’t expected Shirley Lucas to be with Ian Chandler.

’It seems Shirley Lucas might be one of Myra Lawson’s people too.’

"We haven’t seen each other in so many days, haven’t you missed ?

I thought we were best friends who could talk about anything."

Shirley Lucas replied in a feminine voice, and Leo Hale’s eyes widened beside them.

’That smooth?’

"Big Sis, I learned a new Skill."

Seeing Nina Jacobs, Ian Chandler didn’t complain about her leaving without a word. Instead, he excitedly showed off his new Skill.

With a wave of Ian Chandler’s hand, a ripple seed to pass through the air, and a cardboard box in the distance was instantly split in two.

"That’s amazing. Did you figure that out yourself?"

A look of astonishnt flashed in Nina Jacobs’s eyes.

’This is the Space Blade, sothing that only appeared late in the second year of the apocalypse in my past life!’

Ian Chandler nodded. "You were the one who taught , Big Sis."

"When did I teach you that?"

Nina Jacobs was certain she had never ntioned anything about the Space Blade.

"The principles of Superpowers that you explained inspired ,

so that ans you taught ."

Ian Chandler insisted.

His space could store and retrieve items at will, which ant he had complete Control over that pocket dinsion. He just needed to compress the energy within the space and then release it using the sa basic principle of retrieval to complete this new Skill.

"So that’s how it is. In the end, it really cos down to one’s own comprehension."

Nina Jacobs hadn’t expected Ian Chandler to be a natural talent.

To be able to develop the "Air Blade" in such a short ti, his future would surely be extraordinary.

"You didn’t get hurt today, did you, Big Sis?

My mom asked to bring so dicine and see if you needed any."

Ian Chandler waved his hand, and several boxes of dicine appeared on the table.

Nina Jacobs shook her head, indicating that she wasn’t injured.

However, everyone could tell that this was Myra Lawson’s way of showing her approval of Nina Jacobs’s actions.

"So Nina is this popular here,

unlike those of us in my line of work who have to remain anonymous."

Shirley Lucas said mournfully.

"Just say it. You ca to see for a reason, right?"

Nina Jacobs asked.

She didn’t believe Shirley Lucas had co over just to chat.

"You saw right through ?"

Shirley Lucas feigned surprise, but her expression turned serious the next mont.

"We brought Cole Dempsey back,

but he refuses to say anything. You spoke with him before,

did he tell you anything?"

They wanted to investigate the force behind Cole Dempsey and the scale of the Superpower User Alliance, but days had passed, and Cole Dempsey was completely uncooperative.

Even torture hadn’t worked.

"He didn’t reveal anything to ,

I only know that he and Scott Stone ntioned soone called ’Hughes.’ They were looking for that batch of missing gold to give to him."

Nina Jacobs recalled.

In fact, she was also very curious about who this Hughes was.

"Hughes?"

Shirley Lucas frowned.

There was indeed no one nad Hughes in their intelligence files.

"But if you want to interrogate him,

I have soone I can recomnd."

Nina Jacobs said with a smile, thinking of soone.

"You have a recomndation for that, too?

Tell more."

Shirley Lucas was intrigued.

"It’s Sherry Renner, the one you brought back."

Nina Jacobs didn’t know what kind of person Cole Dempsey was.

But she knew exactly what kind of person Sherry Renner was.

Her thods were bizarre and varied, which made them perfect for this situation.

But when Nina Jacobs found Sherry Renner,

she was in the middle of a fortune-telling session.

"A quick calculation of the fates tells your son is still among the living. His destiny is strong enough to overco a hundred perils, but he must reach a safe place as soon as possible, otherwise... it’s hard to say..."

Sherry Renner said with her eyes closed to an anxious-looking middle-aged woman in front of her.

"Really? My son is still alive?

That’s wonderful, he’s still alive..."

The middle-aged woman burst into tears of joy.

Nina Jacobs sighed and tapped on the small table in front of Sherry Renner.

The table was just a wooden plank propped up by a few bricks. Sherry Renner sat there wearing sunglasses, looking every bit the part of a street-hustling charlatan.

"Wa— oh, no, Nina Jacobs?"

Sherry Renner pushed down her sunglasses and happily beckoned for Nina Jacobs to sit.

This was the second floor of the shelter.

It was Nina Jacobs’s first ti here, and she noticed there were quite a few people who had set up stalls.

Sherry Renner was one of them.

Except her stall wasn’t for trading goods; it was for telling fortunes.

"How’s business?"

Nina Jacobs simply sat down cross-legged beside her.

"Not bad, I guess. At least I haven’t been beaten up much."

Sherry Renner gave a sheepish chuckle, looking a bit embarrassed.

She had expected Nina Jacobs to chew her out for swindling people here.

But to her surprise, she didn’t seem to look down on her at all.
