Now reading: Chapter 200: Suspicion and Shock from After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret, a Sci-fi novel by Slowly Voiced Prayer.

Adrian Shaw found that he had been especially unlucky these past few days.

He was in charge of supervising the completion of the new base.

Because of this, he had to travel back and forth between the shelter and the new base every day.

But the trips were fraught with incidents.

It was either brake failure or a tire blowout.

While walking outside the new base’s walls, he was almost hit by bricks that fell for no apparent reason.

On his way back, he would be ambushed by mutated zombies.

And at this mont, he was standing on the wall, several ters high, inspecting the progress. Just as he straightened up, a powerful force suddenly shoved him from behind.

The force was imnse and ca without warning.

Adrian Shaw lost his balance and tumbled right over the wall!

Fortunately, he managed to grab the edge of the wall with both hands.

But his body was already dangling over the side!

He desperately wanted to cry for help, but he realized he was in the far rear of the base, in a section that had already been completed.

The survivors hadn’t started moving into the base yet.

Almost no one ever ca through here.

With no other choice, he had to try and save himself.

However, just as he strained his arms to haul himself over the edge...

A Wind Blade suddenly shot toward him!

Adrian Shaw’s left arm was instantly drenched in blood.

It was only then that he realized sothing.

’Soone wants to kill !’

The pain in his left arm prevented him from using it, leaving only his right hand clinging desperately to the edge.

He knew he couldn’t hold on for much longer.

A fall from this height would be certain death.

As he felt himself about to fall, Adrian Shaw tried to use his Thunder Elent Superpower to cling to the wall.

But it was no use.

The very second his right hand was about to give out, a pair of hands grabbed him firmly!

"Co on... pull!"

Nina Jacobs was relieved she had made it in ti.

It was just that Adrian Shaw was heavier than she had imagined.

Fortunately, Wayne Warner, who had been following her, arrived just in ti and hauled Adrian Shaw up with a single pull.

"Tha... thank you... both."

Adrian Shaw was still shaken from the ordeal.

The first thing he did was scan his surroundings, trying to see who was trying to harm him.

But he found the area around the scorching hot wall completely deserted.

’That probably wasn’t a person pushing , but a Wind Ball.’

"Don’t bother looking. They’re long gone."

Nina Jacobs’ words made Adrian Shaw stare at her in shock.

"Did you just see soone trying to harm ?"

Adrian Shaw asked.

Nina Jacobs nodded. "Not only do I know soone wants to kill you,

I also know who it is."

There was no one within a hundred ters of them on the wall, so no one could overhear their conversation.

"What?! Who is it?"

Adrian Shaw was stunned once again.

"You don’t have any suspects?"

Nina Jacobs didn’t believe he was completely clueless.

"I do, but there are too many."

Adrian Shaw answered truthfully.

He had offended dozens, if not hundreds, of people.

He couldn’t possibly narrow it down.

"..."

Nina thought about what had happened in her past life. ’That person really does act without thinking of the consequences.’

’Plus, even though he doesn’t have a clear official position, he has a lot of privileges, and many people resent him for it.’

"So how do you know?"

"Believe it or not, I overheard it by chance."

Over the past few days, Nina Jacobs had overheard quite a bit using her Five Senses Enhancent.

Hannah Grant had indeed revealed that her brother was having precognitive dreams in an attempt to show her loyalty to Adrian Shaw.

But Adrian Shaw hadn’t believed her.

When Liam Grant found out, he flew into a rage.

Just as Nina Jacobs had predicted, he decided he wanted to kill Adrian Shaw.

"You know how the soundproofing in the shelter isn’t great.

I was walking my dog when I heard them say they wanted to kill you to silence you. As for why, I have no idea."

"Oh, right. I think I also heard them ntion sothing about a dream and keeping it a secret."

Nina Jacobs said, watching Adrian Shaw’s expression closely.

What she was saying wasn’t entirely a lie.

Adrian Shaw didn’t disappoint her.

"A dream... Could it be because of that precognitive dream she told about?!"

’Could the precognitive dream be real? Otherwise, why would they want to kill ?’

"A precognitive dream? No wonder."

Nina Jacobs said, as if having a sudden realization.

"No wonder what?"

Adrian Shaw looked at Nina Jacobs.

’Does she know sothing, too?’

"During the acid rain, he saw others get caught in it,

and insisted they would contract an infectious disease...

Later, he even ca to our place to scope it out, saying that we’d definitely co begging him for sothing.

My mom and Uncle Hale both know about it."

"I heard they borrowed money to hoard a ton of supplies before the acid rain,

and one of their mbers even tried to borrow a million from my mom."

"Do you think he might actually know sothing?"

As Nina Jacobs guided him step by step, Adrian Shaw’s eyes slowly filled with suspicion and shock.

"But she later told that everyone who went to Beldane Island would be completely wiped out,

yet everyone ca back safely."

’Hannah Grant had pushed him down the stairs, breaking his leg.’

’And yet, she’d acted like she was doing him a favor, saying he would thank her for it later.’

’At the ti, he’d just thought Hannah Grant was insane.’

’It wasn’t until later that Hannah Grant tearfully begged for his forgiveness, explaining that it was all because of her brother’s precognitive dreams.’

’She said everyone who went to Beldane Island would be annihilated.’

’The reason she’d gone to such lengths to stop him from going was to protect him.’

"What else did she say?"

Nina Jacobs asked.

"She also said that even though it’s so hot right now,

next year there will be an extre cold spell for several months, and a lot of people will freeze to death."

Adrian Shaw said, recalling the mories.

He looked at Nina Jacobs, his expression slowly becoming tinged with shock.

He suddenly rembered sothing.

’Half a month ago, Hannah Grant had told him not to go near Mount Mormire for a while.’

’She said a lot of zombie animals would appear there.’

’He hadn’t believed her at first.’

’But just yesterday, the shelter received a report about a wildfire of unknown origin on Mount Mormire.’

’The wildfire caused the mutated animals to stampede, and they eventually turned into zombie animals.’

’A nearby rescue team suffered heavy casualties.’

"I thought it was just a coincidence... Could what she said be true?"

Adrian Shaw’s brow furrowed deeply.

’If he had believed Hannah Grant back then, could this have been prevented?’

Nina Jacobs faltered.

’Zombie animals near Mount Mormire?’

’She really didn’t know about that happening in her past life.’

’Around this ti in her past life, Shannon Renner had been injured, and she’d spent several days taking care of her.’

’Co to think of it, Liam Grant had ntioned being chased by zombie animals once, and it was near Mount Mormire...’

"It’s possible.

Think again. Was there anything else?"

Nina Jacobs continued to lead him on.

"Yes."

Adrian Shaw clenched his fists. ’How could I not have realized this before?’

’Hannah Grant had said that in three days, on the second day of the survivor transfer from the shelter, there would be catastrophic casualties.’

’The plan to transfer the survivors had been set at the last minute, based on the base’s construction schedule.’

’How could Hannah Grant have known back then that it would be the second day?’

"Well then, we just have to wait and see if it cos true, don’t we?"

Hearing Adrian Shaw finally say it, Nina Jacobs stood up.

She leaned against a shadowed section of the wall, her expression inscrutable.

"Do you believe what she said?" Adrian Shaw asked.

"Do you?"

Nina Jacobs knew that if nothing was done, it would still happen.

’In her past life, during the second day of the survivor transfer from the shelter, over a thousand survivors, including the rescue teams, were almost completely wiped out.’

’She and her group hadn’t been at the shelter; they had arrived at the new base on their own the day after the incident.’

’At the ti, the entire base was shrouded in a heavy atmosphere. The survivors felt none of the joy of moving into a new ho.’

’There was only the panic and sorrow of being the few who survived a catastrophe.’

’They hadn’t known what exactly had happened the day before, only hearing that there had been a zombie attack.’
