The pastries were taken from Aunt Xia’s hand by Xia Chuyi.
If one were to say her aunt would harm her, Xia Chuyi absolutely wouldn’t believe it.
So, is it possible that soone else used her aunt’s hand?
Xia Chuyi’s contemplative appearance at that mont imdiately caught the attention of others.
"Chuyi, do you know sothing?" At this mont, Huo Shiqian asked Xia Chuyi.
Xia Chuyi shook her head and said, "I’m not sure, but I do have so suspicions..."
Then, she proceeded to explain about the pastries.
"At first, I thought the pastries were just not fresh, making my stomach upset," Xia Chuyi recalled aloud, "but now that I think about it, there was sothing wrong with those pastries..."
With a clear clue, Huo Shiqian fell silent for a mont and said, "You don’t need to think too much about this, Chuyi. I will handle it."
"First, have so porridge. Doctor Cheng will get the test results for us to look at."
Then, Huo Shiqian carefully helped Xia Chuyi to sit down and said to Mrs. Ou, "Mother-in-law, I’ll leave Chuyi with you. I’ll go with Uncle Guo for a mont."
After speaking, Huo Shiqian gave Doctor Guo a slight nod of indication.
Doctor Guo nodded and said, "Alright, co with then."
The two of them left the examination room first.
Once they got the report and confird the type of toxin, Huo Shiqian’s expression turned very grim.
Seeing this, Doctor Guo ca over and patted his shoulder, saying, "You don’t need to carry too much psychological burden. Even if this child doesn’t make it, you’ll have more children in the future."
However, Huo Shiqian remained silent for a while, his gaze fixed on the report, finally asking in a low voice, "Uncle Guo, with such a small amount of toxin, is there really no chance of keeping the child?"
Upon hearing this, Doctor Guo replied, "The toxin is one aspect; we’ll also give Chuyi an antidote, which is another aspect."
"The toxin affects the fetus, and the antidote also has certain effects on the fetus."
"So, the chance of the fetus being unaffected is at most one in a thousand," Doctor Guo sighed and continued, "The greatest likelihood is that this child’s brain could have defects—in plain terms, it might be born with ntal disabilities."
"And for this child to be born, not to ntion the adults, even the child itself would be destined to suffer."
Doctor Guo’s words extinguished the last glimr of hope in Huo Shiqian’s heart.
Huo Shiqian’s hand gradually clenched tighter, his eyes growing darker, saying, "I understand."
When Huo Shiqian and Doctor Guo returned to the consultation room, Xia Chuyi and Mrs. Ou seed to have cald down as well.
Xia Chuyi was sipping porridge slowly, while Mrs. Ou watched her with full of heartache and compassion.
"Chuyi..." Huo Shiqian opened his mouth, his voice suddenly becoming very choked as he said, "About the child..."
"About the child," knowing what Huo Shiqian was about to say, Xia Chuyi interrupted him abruptly, speaking with unusual calmness, "we still need to think it over carefully."
Seeing her like this, Huo Shiqian knew she was reluctant to part with the child.
Huo Shiqian glanced at her and ultimately chose not to persuade her; instead, he tried hard to present a composed appearance to face Xia Chuyi.
"Okay, we shall think it over again," Huo Shiqian followed Xia Chuyi’s words, "Uncle Guo, considering Chuyi’s condition, can I take her ho first?"
Hearing his question, Doctor Guo nodded and said, "Yes, you can."
