Xia Chuyi wondered if her attitude towards the Xia Family would make Huo Shiqian think that she was heartless, cold-blooded?
Huo Shiqian knitted his brows and said indifferently, “One need not be passionate towards the heartless.”
Upon hearing this, Xia Chuyi was slightly taken aback.
She had thought she was going to be scolded.

Was the girl deliberately being presumptuous?

Before they even fully entered, they heard the cries of Grandma Xia and Aunt Xia, shrill like slaughterhouse pigs, from inside.
Just reaching the doorway, they saw Chang Luhui being pulled left and right by Grandma Xia and Aunt Xia, who were crying and begging him as if the sky had fallen.

From the direction of the interrogation room, Xia Chengzong suddenly erged.
His handcuffs were removed—clearly, the investigation was complete, and he had been released.
Upon seeing Xia Chengzong, Grandma Xia’s expression twisted imdiately; she let go of Chang Luhui and lunged straight towards him.
“You heartless wretch!” Grandma Xia sprang up, her slap landing squarely on Xia Chengzong’s face.
Caught off-guard by her resonating slap, everyone was stunned.
“You ungrateful beast, you’ve brought your brother to ruin!” One slap wasn’t enough to vent her anger, Grandma Xia cursed away, attempting to spring up again to strike more blows.
But she was avoided by a cold-faced Xia Chengzong, who quickly dodged and grabbed her upraised hand.
Grandma Xia clearly couldn’t match his strength, her hand immobilized; she spat in his face with indignation.
Then she turned to call her daughter-in-law, “Wife of my eldest, co here quickly, beat this shaless beast to death!”
Aunt Xia hesitated, then approached, but instead of hitting, she scolded her own son, “Chengzong, you’re brothers, blood brothers; how could you do this to Chengzu?”
Aunt Xia was in tears continuously streaming, with every word truly heartfelt.
Grandma Xia struggled but was restrained by Xia Chengzong, unable to move.
His expression grew dark as he asked his mother, “Mom, do you also think I shouldn’t have told the truth?”
Aunt Xia jostled him again, crying out, “I already told you, if you took the bla, Chuyi would undoubtedly save you!”
“And for your brother, not kicking him when he’s down is already being kind!”
“Why don’t you ever listen?”
Her words were uttered with the utmost sincerity from the depths of her heart.
Xia Chengzong’s heart sank and finally, his eyes shifted.
